The 30 Foot Rail Project Starts Now! Our Biggest Project Yet! The Newest Addition to The Skatepark
I think it's finally time to start the 30 foot rail! I have been talking about wanting to add a rail to the top of the driveway bump for a while now, but haven't felt comfortable enough with my skills to commit, until now. I am by no means confident that I'll be able to build the rail with no issues, but I do think I'm ready to try! I'm totally open to any and all advice that you may have, so let me know how I should go about this!

I Can't Believe This Actually Worked! The Fabrication Journey Continues. Prepping For More Rails!
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 2 hodinami
A little bit of a spontaneous project for today's video. As we continue this fabrication journey that we're on, my brain is constantly trying to think of ways to create things and get some practice in. In my past couple videos, I have pointed out how our cheap Harbor Freight tube notcher is a little bit off center, so I thought it could be a fun project to try to fix that. I'm actually super pr...
This Past Month Actually Changed my Life. One Month Into 75 Hard And This is How It's Going!
zhlédnutí 11KPřed 4 hodinami
One month ago I started 75 hard. I mentioned how I wanted to do updates throughout the journey, so I'm able to document how I'm feeling mentally, physically, etc. and here is the first update! We officially made it one month and I am feeling SO good about it so far. Mentally I feel great and physically I feel even better. Super proud of my progress so far and I'm exciting to keep going! If you ...
This Really Bums me Out... Finishing up the Fingerboard Rails, Not Happy With How They Came Out.
zhlédnutí 13KPřed 7 hodinami
I'll admit, I had really high hopes for these fingerboard rails. These were the rails that I cut with the CNC plasma cutter and up until this point, I had been really happy with how they'd come out. Unfortunately, when it came time to actually welding them together, I pretty much blew it. At the end of the day, they still work fine, it's just the cosmetic aspect of them that's not perfect, but ...
The Best Rail I've Ever Made! I'm Actually Really Proud of This! Homemade Skate Rail Version 3.0
zhlédnutí 22KPřed 9 hodinami
I really couldn't be happier with how version 3 of our homemade skate rail came out. I learned a LOT from versions 1 and 2, and I did my best to learn from each and every mistake we made along the way. I can confidently say, without a doubt, that version 3 is our best rail yet, and it came out EXACTLY how I had envisioned in my head. So, what's next? If you enjoy the channel and want to go abov...
Reunited With Some Old Friends at The Skatepark! First Time Since Moving Out of LA + Some Skating!

Obviously I moved out of LA for a TON of different reasons, but one of those is that I could be closer to some of my good friends! Somehow, even though I live 7 hours closer to Shaun now, we still haven't hung out since I moved up north. Today, I met up with Shaun and Lamont to skate Mather skatepark for a bit. The only problem is that by the time they got there, it was about time for me to hea...
Saying Goodbye to my First Homemade Skate Rail! Dropping Off The Rail + a Busy Day of Chores!

I had been putting off this day of chores for a while now, but I told myself that it was finally time to stop procrastinating and to finally get them done! One of those "chores" being to drop off our homemade skate rail at the local skatepark. I figured that over the next couple weeks/months, I'm going to be making a LOT of skate rails to get my welding and fabrication practice in, and I though...

After our very short 24 hour camping trip, I had a bit of housekeeping work that I wanted to catch up on. Fortunately, I was able to procrastinate doing it just one more day because I had some new friends come over! Chad and his son Shilo stopped by on their way home from a trip up to Tahoe and got to hang out for a bit, talk, have fun, and skate. Shilo absolutely destroyed the park and it was ...

Even though this was a really really short camping trip, I think it went SO well. I had a ton of fun (and also learned that I really want to do it more often), and it really made me appreciate the decision I made with selling the Tesla and buying the Tundra. All in all, the trip was a little over 600 miles. We hit Mammoth, June Lake, and Lake Tahoe, and it felt so good to get out and explore, e...

In yesterday's video, I had mentioned that Gabe and I were going on a camping trip, and here we are! It has been YEARS since I'd been to mammoth, and since it's in the middle of Gabe and I, we figured it was the perfect place for us to link up and camp. Of course we had to stop by the Volcom Brother's skatepark, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful skateparks I've ever been to, and ...

I will be the first to admit that version 2.0 of our homemade skate rail isn't anywhere near perfect, but it is a whole lot better than version 1.0. We took all of our mistakes from version 1 and did our best to learn from them. To my surprise, version 2 actually skated really really well, and it made me even more excited to clean it up for version 3.0! That being said, now that I sold the Tesl...

Everything That Could Have Gone Wrong Went Wrong... Trying to Make my Own Skate Rail Version 2.0!

I learned a LOT from our first attempt at making my own skate rail. Obviously the only way to progress is to fail... multiple times... and that's what we did! While I think I had the right idea, luck was just not on my side today. Everything seemed to be going wrong...

You want to put an angle prep on the pipes before you weld them together to give you a nice V shape to weld into, should give you much more strength and less to grind off afterwards to smooth them out

I was going to comment that you should melt down the pieces of scrap metal to use again, maybe cast them and create random stuff or something. But maybe that will get you hooked and all of a sudden this turns into a blacksmith channel, you already have too much going on and you don't need another expensive hobby lol

If no one’s said it, when you join the tubs together and go to grind them “seamless” don’t run the grinder down the length of the rail. Grind around the tube circumference as to not create flat spots. I like to put the grinder wheel on the grinder backwards and it lets you nicely grind around the tube.

  • @turbocateyeS475
    @turbocateyeS475 Před 7 hodinami

Oh and when you extend the rail to a 30ft length make sure you drill holes in the larger tubing and plug weld the larger diameter tubing to the smaller diameter tubing. It probably wont ever move anyway but that will ensure it wont. Just 4 per joint, 2 per piece will do. You can also cut the larger tubing at an angle/cope it/zig zag cut it to make the joint even stronger. Straight cuts, even welded, are weak to vertical force. You could also sorta solve the issue by putting your legs directly under the joint.

Building long legs that sink into holes and are then filled with concrete would be better. Bolting anything to asphalt, especially that will have sideways pressure at times and especially with coarse/rough asphalt, will eventually tear itself out. You could even concrete in tubing larger than your rail legs so you could remove the rail easily and also have square rails or kinked rails or remove it completely if need be.

Might be wrong, but I think you had a math mistake on the white board. You wrote 7’ between legs. 7 feet between four legs would only be 21 feet. Plus the 2 feet on the ends would make your rail 23 feet. If my math is correct you would need 5 legs 7 feet apart in order to get the rail 30 feet. Hope I am right and didn’t just waste your time.
