Radio Basics: CTCSS & DCS Tones
Private Line (PL) tones such as CTCSS tones and DCS tones are sub audible tones that your radio transmits along with your voice. The main purpose of these tones it to reduce annoyance. They prevent your radio from receiving signals that do not carry a particular tone. This is useful if you are using a shared frequency but do not want to hear other users. IMPORTANT: although often referred to as “private line (PL) tones” CTCSS / DCS tones do not provide privacy. They prevent you from hearing other users but they do not prevent other radio users from hearing you. If you want true privacy we recommend AES-256 digital encryption.

Radio Basics: UHF vs VHF Explained #comms #aes256 #preparedness #prepper #baofeng

Generally VHF radios operate in the 138-174 MHz frequency band and UHF radios operate in the 400-512 MHz frequency band. VHF waves a much longer then UHF waves which allows them to carry a bit further in wide open areas but the longer wavelength on VHF also means that it struggles to escape dense urban environments and structures particularly steel and concrete ones. UHF on the other hand perfo...

Commercial DMR vs Consumer Off-the-shelf
zhlédnutí 10KPřed 3 měsíci
Commercial DMR vs Consumer Off-the-shelf Off the shelf units like the BaoFeng UV-5R are great radios to learn the basics of radio operations. They are not built to be used in tactical operations or during an emergency. Relying on a BaoFeng or similar radios for your groups comms is a massive vulnerability. Commercial Grade DMR handhelds are higher quality, give the user more control and often o...

I thought the FCC had banned sales of Hyter communications equipment in the US...
unless you are using a commercial license. you cannot use encryption on the armature bands in the united states.
If you're interested in FCC licensing we can help you out with that.
@@RangelandI don't think that was his point. His point was that you were making useless comparisons against the Baofeng UV5R. You should be a politician!!😆
$20 radio to $1000 radio
A toy and a reliable tool.
i rather just speak in code/cypher
... --- ...
$30 vs $600… and unless you have a FCC licensed frequency assigned to you your encryption is illegal.
A toy vs a tool. We can help you with FCC licensing if that's something you're looking for.
the boafeng is not a toy. no more a toy than any other radio. i have 1000 dollar motorolas and i have boafengs. they both do what they both do which is communicate with others over the air. this video is disingenuous. @@Rangeland
Interesting... We've got a lot of customers who've upgraded their comms from BaoFeng due to it's unreliability, lack of enhanced encryption, poor audio and cheap build quality. It seems like it's capable enough for your needs. When you're ready to upgrade, let us know and we'll help you figure out a setup that works for you.
The encryption thing just gets me because it’s almost certainly so far beyond the rest of our skill sets. Like what enemy is encrypted comms really going to make the difference against?
So true... privacy is overhyped. 😂
I thought you are not suppose to encrypt communications on the HAM radio frequencies as well as FRS, GMRS and MURS. So, help me understand.
While these radios can be programmed to use those frequencies (HAM, GMRS & MURS), the frequencies we ship our radios with are business itinerate frequencies. Encryption can be toggled on and off on the radio by thee user.
Can I receive P25 transmissions from the other radio?
No, these DMR handhelds are not for P25 transmissions.
@@Rangeland odd my motorola can do dmr and p.25 seems this hytera is a toy
We carry Motorola as well as RCA, Maxon and Hytera.
Baofeng also har DMR that is cheaper the Hytera.
Cheaper in price and quality. Also no ability to digitally encrypt on the BaoFeng.
@@Rangeland That is wrong baufeng DM-1701 has encrytion. It's twodifferent radios for two different markets you cannot possible compare those to radio with each others. however the commercial Radio you have there in your left hand is stronger encryption then the analog uv5r that has nothing.
My phone definitely listens to me
We heard you...
