In the first episode of the Blog series, I will be discussing ARFID and the impact it can have on relationships for both the person with ARFID and the partner. This is the closest thing I've done to a 'video essay' for this cha...

Like video and good video and I love grapes not purple 🤔😊
Thanks ☺! I have heard the purple ones taste different, I'll have to see for myself!
@@youARFIDwhatyoueatare you going to try the purple ones on camera 📸!? 🤔🙃
Like video and good video and have you ever tried pumpk pie!? And subscribe and I like olives l like it🤔
Thank you ☺! I have not tried pumpkin pie nope, but I definitely will!
Are you going to try pumpkin pie on camera 📸 for CZcams!? And how old you!? 🤔
The little star holes on the bottom are from when they take the pips out. Olives have a rather large pip inside them. They are soaked in a salty water so that adds to the saltiness. You can also get black olives which generally come with the pip inside them and no other foods stuffed into it. But they taste similar, maybe a bit stronger so I wouldnt recommend you try them anytime soon haha
That's interesting to know, thanks for the info! And yeah I've heard black olives are even stronger so I think I'll be waiting awhile before I give those a look 😅
Could you try peaches or plums in the future?
I definitely could for sure!
That tingling sensation after eating a grape could be a mild allergic reaction potentially
That's a good point, I hadn't even considered that 👀
A lot of health nuts will blend it into a smoothie. I don't think that will help the flavor but it will help to make it easier to consume more of it in less time.
I've blended spinach into a smoothie before, but I didn't like how it blended it tended to break into tiny little bits instead of like emulsifying or whatever with the rest of the smoothie. But maybe kale would work better? I'll have to give it a shot!
It is a joyless flavour lol
I don't have ARFID and I am happy to try any food at least once. Cantaloupe isn't my favorite but its not bad. I think all your descriptions of it are pretty accurate for anyone. Some people love it, others find it below average. Its not terrible. I expected you to hate it but you took multiple bites. you treated it like most people would. Its not really an acquired taste like you would say for an olive or something, its just a cantaloupe. Not sure if you're getting more comfortable trying new things or if cantaloupes are really that average that you need to try multiple bites to make up your mind
Oh I definitely wouldn't say I liked it, or even found it average. It was a flavour I really didn't like and the texture was off-putting. But over time I have for sure been getting better at trying new things (which as one of my hopes from this channel!) so that has helped me deal with new foods like this. As for the multiple bites though I always try to give a food 2-3 bites when doing these videos to give it a fair appraisal since one bite usually isn't enough to form a proper opinion. The first bite is also often about getting past the shock factor of it, once I know what a food tastes like the next bites allow me to form an opinion on the food itself without also dealing with the fear of the unknown. Funny you mentioned olives though, stay tuned 👀
There are beans in tomato sauce as well which aren't as sweet
I love beans and toast 😋
You might prefer plain navy beans or cannelloni beans or maybe even garbanzo beans. They are all somewhat bland on their own in my opinion. Definitely a good protein source if you can tolerate eating them.
I'll have to give those all a shot in time! Plenty of more beans to try ☺
Man the way you were holding that half of a kiwi and talking about it I thought you were gonna take a massive bite with the skin on haha. Glad you asked your partner before hand I was so worried. Glad you didnt eat the skin haha. Didn't expect you to like it as much as you did, nice vid :)
It's not the first time she's saved me from an eating mistake and it won't be the last 😅. Thanks, I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did either to be honest!
You did so good with that! Burgers are one I’ve always struggled with too. I’m also that person at the BBQ just eating a plain bun😁
Thanks ☺! Bun eaters of the world unite!!
As someone with ARFID, I have loved watching your videos you have put out! It is so nice to see someone who has similar aversions to me and how they go through dealing with trying new foods. I am very lucky to have a partner that takes my safe foods and textures and tries to make new foods to see if I might like them to. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but we always discuss afterwards what I liked or disliked. That gives me a lot of security and I fully trust that they won't intentionally put anything in there that I am not aware of. I remember growing up and my parents not really understand my eating disorder and had the "Sit at the table until you finish your dinner" mentality, which absolutely made it hard for me to eat around people. One huge memory I have is my parents saying that "You'll never find a partner that will actually want to stay with you unless you eat right", which is probably one of the worst thing you can tell someone with ARFID. With more information out now about ARFID, they are a lot better now luckily. I am really proud of you for making this channel and for trying all these new foods. It gives me a lot of ideas of what I might be able to try in the future and it is incredibly encouraging!
I appreciate the kind words thank you 😊! And I'm very happy for you that you have found a partner who is supportive and understanding of how ARFID can affect one's life. It makes all the difference in the world!
I don't know where you got that burger but those "grill marks" look fake. Which is a common practice in many fast food/frozen patties. Its generally liquid smoke painted to look like grill marks. That patty looks terrible to me and I love cheese burgers. If you want to try a good cheese burger please try one that was cooked fresh. They will be meaty. it is beef after all. So if that is an issue maybe even a fresh one would be bad for you. But there is a big difference in fresh vs frozen beef patties. Would love to see you try this again with a more "gourmet" version of this
You might be onto something! On the other hand my fiancee ate it after I was done and loved it, so I couldn't say 😅. Harvey's does have a great reputation in Canada for the quality of the burgers, but I also don't eat burgers so I don't really have much of an opinion to go on. I guess I'll have to try a gourmet burger sometime, as you say!
Would adding condiments like ketchup help?
Possibly a little bit, but as I mention in the video the flavour of the burger itself was so intense that it would take some seeeeerious condiments to dilute it. I'm not sure I'd be able to successfully neutralize that oily, meaty flavour attack. I'm getting grossed out just thinking about it.
@@youARFIDwhatyoueattwas a little surprised you didn't try adding some ketchup, might have helped a bit, but I was already assuming you wouldn't be into burgers. Plus most of the common toppings for burgers aren't really up your alley. If plain was too much flavour for you, adding pickles, tomato, and onion won't help you one bit, especially since you've already not liked some of those on their own.
This is such a great video for both people with ARFID and people that are with people who have ARFID! Definitely felt the ‘you haven’t had it cooked by me’ comment😂
Thank you ☺!!
Unsweetened vanilla almond milk, frozen blueberries, pinch of cinnamon, Are solid ingredients. I made a smoothie at the cottage once years back that had those, plus some protein powder and banana that I believe I recall you saying you enjoyed.
I do recall them not being bad! I should give all of these ingredients a shot, see what works and what doesn't with my current blend!
I agree with adding crushed ice, it makes a big difference. Also I know with protein powders, I can almost always taste them. You might like adding the Evive Pure or Yogi which will give some vegetable content.
Maybe try using crushed ice instead of water. Making it super cold might help with the taste as the cold will make your tongue less sensitive.
I'll give it a try, thanks for the suggestion! I do fear it'll make it too chilly to drink right away, but if it helps with the overall taste perhaps it's a trade off worth making? Only one way to find out!
Can you name specific things about it that you don't enjoy? Appearance, Smell, Texture, Mouthfeel etc. are a bit vague here. A good example you gave was the chalky feeling you get from the protein powder. I personally don't drink smoothies, and I also don't have ARFID, so I have nothing I can recommend, but knowing *exactly* what you dislike would help in finding countermeasures
Just about all of it? Appearance is serviceable, but the excess water prevents the blend from looking homogenous and instead gives it a semi-separated appearance. But without the water it doesn't blend well enough and has a gross thickness to it. Maybe I gotta use less. Smell wise it's fine, the salted caramel smell isn't too bad. I don't like the taste of the banana, the Evive cubes have a very potent flavour that I'm not a fan of and the protein powder isn't much better (as mentioned, the chalkiness and general overly processed taste protein powders tend to have don't necessarily lend themselves well to a good tasting smoothie, but I need the protein). The ground almonds at least have a somewhat neutral flavour that sorta neutralizes the others, that's part of why I use them. The textures are less of an issue when all blended, but it could still stand to blend a little better (if you don't drink it quick it begins to separate and become very gross). Again, possibly a matter of using less water or even switching to trying something like milk or juice (but that becomes less cost-effective, which is something I try to factor into a smoothie I make daily). Mouthfeel it's fine, except for the occasional piece of banana that doesn't blend properly creating a very gross surprise mid-smoothie. A touch gritty due to the grounded almonds and protein powder, but not overwhelmingly so. The only part of this smoothie I actually like on its own is the yogurt, and even then I find yogurt to be a bit strong flavour wise. The goal for me when making these is to try and jam as much nutrients in as I can, while avoiding strong flavours that might overwhelm the experience. So what I'm looking for I suppose is relatively neutral but nutritious foods that can blend well. Then perhaps I could figure out a better tasting or more appropriately flavoured protein powder and let that cover the flavour. I use the salted caramel for now because it's a strong flavour that isn't bad and it masks the others, but I'm not sure it's really the right fit. But all of that said I am open to whatever suggestions people may have! I simply am not a fan of the sum of the parts, and most of the individual parts I don't like neither. So I guess it makes sense that I wouldn't like the overall product 😅. But I haven't had much success with other versions I've tried over the years neither, so I've settled on one that at least gets the job done for now.
Definitely best served immediately. When getting drive through/take out by the time you get home it’s kinda gross and soggy.
Agreed! I actually ordered it with all the pieces separated and made it when I got home to avoid it growing soggy. So while I had picked it up 10 or so minutes prior to the video, the actual pieces of it weren't combined together until right before I started the video. Just enough to let the cheese melt, since that seems to be part of the idea of a poutine.
I love fries. I love cheese curds. I love brown gravy. But this is definitely not greater than the sum of it's parts.
Why not just run the sauce through a fine-mesh strainer before spreading in onto the dough? If you strain out the sauce first, it will save you the hassle of having to pick through it after you've spread it out.
I've considered doing exactly that as a matter of fact! For years now. I've just never pulled the trigger and actually gone about doing it, I have doubts about how efficiently it would actually work. But all the same I do think it's really worth a shot and I think I will give it a go for my next pizza. Thank you!
Have you tried to make your own pizza sauce? Less garlic and herbs so you can do less picking out the bits? Not tomato paste but just make your own sauce for homemade pizzas?
I've given it a lot of thought over the years actually, but have never pulled the trigger on doing so. Would definitely give me much more control over the flavour and texture. It's a good suggestion, thank you! Maybe this will be the kick in the butt I've needed to stop thinking about it and start doing it 😆
I just order my pizzas without sauce.
I often will just do this! But sometimes I want that small touch of flavour from the sauce, even if I don't want the texture of the sauce itself.
Damn, that sounds so exhausting to do every single time. I hope it isn't as exhausting for you as it would be for me
It can be an annoying process - for this reason I don't tend to make pizza very often 😅
I only eat cheese and pepperoni pizza, other toppings on a pizza messes with the texture and flavor which I don’t like.
im glad u liked it 🎉
Well you gotta keep in mind that the skin is intestine. I think for hot dogs they use sheep intestine? Not sure. Either way that's where the bumpiness comes from.
Sadly I do know that, it actually makes the thought of it all that much worse 🤢
I used to peel the skin off hotdogs as a kid cause I didn't like the skin texture. I'm fine with it now. I don't eat hotdogs often but when I do I prefer certain brands. I also love them as pigs in a blanket style !
I like pickles by themselves fine, but i like them best in a crispy chicken sandwich!
I think pickles are best eaten whole or sliced lengthwise in a hotdog
With a reaction like that, I was expecting you to rank it an F.
it crossed my mind 😅! But as bad as it was there is so much worse to come. Things like shrimp or other sea food, let's just say I'm not looking forward to them.
ThE smell of that soup btw was so bad. Made the house smell hella gross for hours. 🤢🤢🤢
If the chunks in soup really bother you, try getting an immersion blender and blending your soup until smooth.
That's what I would do next time, but I'd also try a different brand as this one tasted kind of low-end.
@@youARFIDwhatyoueat Yeah might want to find a different brand or even try making it yourself following a recipe! Homemade is way better than canned imo.
I love Broccoli Soup, tho I always make it myself so I can blend it as finely as I want. Not sure what the ingredients for yours were, but for my own there needs to be lots of potato, a bunch of chili flakes and only a small amount of cream
I think I would try making it myself again so I could personalize the experience like you say! Chili flakes sounds like a good idea, potatoes too.
Mango juice and mango salsa are 2 of my favorite things! Like you said you may prefer a diluted version 😊
Great job on trying something new Chris
I should note as well that the type of mango I ate in this video is an Ataulfo mango! There are several kinds and I'll give the others a try in the future.
based on your complaints I think it would definitely be worth to slice the apple into wedges if you eat more in the future. it's very easy then to cut off the little bit of core on it so that it looks (and is) more homogenous throughout and you can bite in without any worry of hitting a seed or something.
brazil nuts are weird. you might notice at the store that you can buy a bag of just cashews or just almonds or just peanuts etc, but you will never see a bag of just brazil nuts. they are actually so high in selenium that you are not supposed to eat more than like a couple a day. just one of them has around twice your recommended daily selenium. that's why you will only ever see them for sale mixed in with a bunch of other nuts. so it's probably not a big loss for your nutrition that you don't like them haha
interesting! I love the initial taste of mango but I absolutely despise the aftertaste that it leaves for me. interesting that you didn't seem to have that aftertaste!
I might have just gotten lucky with this particular mango 😅
I devoured the rest of that mango and the rest we bought lol. Mango is one my favourite fruits, especially these yellow ones! They were riper then it looks on camera. They were great with coconut cream ❤
That mango didn't look ripe. Definitely look for one without green on it and it should be mostly red/orange.
It's actually an Ataulfo mango, it's supposed to look this way! I'll definitely be giving the other types of mango, including the more red/orange looking one that a lot of people would associate with a mango, in the future!
do you put butter on white bread? If so, you dont need anything else, Bread and butter is amazing
I loooove butter on bread, yes indeed!
The safest safe food that’s ever safe fooded
Agreed, though it's not for everyone! I was just talking to someone yesterday who considers white bread a fear food, that's the thing with eating disorders like ARFID there's no one-size-fits-all kind of approach. But for me it is a life saver.
Love the concept of this channel! Keep it up, i subscribed 👍
Thank you for the support 😊!!
proud of you
