Thank you for your comment :) In daylight there is not much difference in video quality, but in low light there is a lot more noise in the picture on the 4s compared to the 7s, which can also be seen in the clip.

Matrix parts are not legal in the us, only the turning light has been activated there afaik, and it is only active with low beam and at relatively low speeds, from my experience with it. Have a short clip with it here on the channel

It was recorded on the same phone with the same settings. The Highlands light is directed more towards the ground than in the old 3, I guess that's why it looks brighter in the clips I made. I agree with you that in most cases the Highland's high beam is worse than the old 3.

Thanks for your commentary :) I do not think there is anything physically moving in the headlight, as for example on the old Golf 6 with xenon that I have previously had, without being sure, I think they have made the turning effect using the matrix part in the headlights. Thanks for your comment :) I have the same experience as you, this one seems a bit worse than 2024.20.9 when it comes to recognising other cars at long distance. It is also the first time since 2024.20.6.2 that another car has flashed at me.

Np :) Haven't experienced it as bad as you, have driven about 1.5 hours in the dark with this update and I have only been flashed once, but have noticed times when it didn't dim the lights fast enough IMO, but the other driver didn't flash. They have definitely done something to the way the car "sees" the world in this update, have had significantly more phantom braking against oncoming cars on roads without a central reservation with this than I have had in a long time. But fortunately, it won't be long before the next update comes, where it might be better, we never know what they change in the background :)

Thanks for your comment :) I actually don't know if they are shot with the same exposure. Both clips are shot on the same Pixel 7 and I haven't changed the camera settings, but I don't know if the phone changes exposure automatically. I agree with you that there are a lot of Tesla's driving around with incorrectly set headlights, and on the difference between the new and old. Don't know if they have changed their settings to try to get rid of the problem, the only time someone has flashed me in the new one is the few times when the maxtrix part has not been fast enough, in the old one I have experienced a number of times being flashed without having high beam on, and the car had been for inspection before it was registered in Denmark, as it was imported from Germany, so the lights should have been set correctly.

Why? Havent tried foglights on M3. But on all other cars they illuminate about enough to see what you hit, not to be able to avoid it.. Other than that, they blind oncoming trafic and makes you see shorter. To see far you need more light far ahead, and less right infront of your car, the light right infront (foglights) just blinds you as well.

@@therandomtester9561 Sorry my sentence may have been not that clear, let me add context and rephrase my sentence For conext : - fog light can provide more safety during poor visibility ; - the refreshed M3 has no more front fog light ; > no matter premium or not ; > what we can see on the top video is that the spread is large, we have a good visibility on sides ; => i suppose that by default the side visibility is improved for mitigate the lack of front fog light, hence i would appreciate to compare the new M3 and the old + front fog light. To go forward, i ll appreciate a video of the different light spreading over differents situations and distances and why not a draw with the ground aera for each light source and also how high and far the light source can illuminate

and a side note, some auto maker implemented a behaviour i think is good : While turning in a direction, while the head lights are on, it turn on the fog light in the turn (right turn => right fog light) It can improve safety while cornering into a dark road or while driving on mountain roads, Perhaps it still can blind other people but at least it is just during the turn

@@cyrilyxe yes, "foglight" as cornering lights makes sence, in tight turns at low speeds. But for driving fairly straight in anything above around 40 kmh just makes for a blinding-effect.

You're right :) But the old 2021 is an SR+ which doesn't have fog lights. Had fog lights on some of my earlier cars but hardly ever used them, so don't miss them.

Thanks for your comment :) I would agree with you on some points about their beta software, though not about the headlights, they are neither worse nor better than so many other matrix systems on comparable cars. They have the advantage over many other car manufacturers that they are very active in their development and rollout of their software, so they can fix bugs relatively quickly, like the one shown in this clip.

OK, Thank you 🙂 The only small thing I've noticed that has been changed lately is that it doesn't turn on the high beam if you activate the auto function when there are street lights, as it did before. But apparently it doesn't turn it off again when you drive into an area with street lights.

@@CatsAndRandomStuff oh for me it turns of the high beams when i'm going in a street with enough lights and turns in on when i'm in a darker street, so no issue there for me though :/ i did notice that with high beams on and you swerve on a straight street that it does light up the corners a lot

My own theory is that they are missing training data for HW4 cameras, as it works almost perfectly on the old HW3, which has been “running” in many cars for a good number of years now.

I don't mind it dimming the high beam because of the reflections in signs or on the truck trialer in the clip, it's perfectly fine :) The problem is that it often has difficulty recognizing the taillights of cars in front and does not dim the high beam in the area they are in.

My 2021 nissan leaf is not perfect too. Its ok only in very dark conditions (without public lights).

@@CatsAndRandomStuffI feel like for markets without the matrix high beam (where I’m at), the flashing/dimming from reflector makes auto highbeam unusable. At least with matrix there are other segments on but AHB just turns off the entire light. I call it disco mode.

Didn't use AHB before the matrix feature was enabled, my routine was always to turn it off when it turned it on as AHB used to be useless here too, but it got better up to 2024.8.x where mantrix was enabled where it is legal and so I see your point and that it is still pretty much useless in your region.

Yes it took a while before it was activated, I drove 2 years with my first model 3 before it was activated. But I'm pretty sure if it had been one of the other brands, they would have charged a good amount of money to activate it, Tesla just said here it is and it's free, their constant development of the software and features is one of several reasons why I bought a new Tesla when I replaced the old one. I don't really see the problem in having only one screen with all the info, and no HUD, it took me less than a day to get used to it, and I haven't really thought about it since. But people are free to think what they want about it.

HUD isn’t coming any time soon. Why spend money and add complexity for a feature that few people use on a vehicle that is approaching “don’t need to do anything” autonomy?

Nope, not IRL. And from what I've seen in tests, the best matrix headlights are probably from the V.A.G group or BMW.

You're absolutely right, it's certainly nothing new, and Tesla doesn't have the best headlights on the market, that title probably goes to the V.A.G group or BMW. The point of the videos I post is to show people what they can expect if they buy a Model 3 and to show the development overtime when new software comes out, and I think it's interesting to learn more about video editing, and the best way to learn something is by doing it :)
