How to Make a Stove Shelf out of White Oak
Today I'm showing you how I made this stove shelf out of white oak. The dimensions i used for this are, 3.5 inches x 20 inches for the main body, 1.5 inches x 16 inches for the bottom piece that fills in the gap, and 0.75 inches x 20 inches for the top trim piece. The finish I applied was a semi Gloss spray lacquer.

In this video I'm showing how I made an ottoman table for my wife and I. for this project I'm using cherry wood, and adding some wonderful power carved texture detail using a 1/4 inch sphere burr. This Is to date the best thing I've have ever built and I am Incredibly proud of it. Let me know what you think of it in the comments down below. linktr.ee/Makercuisine MAKE MOVES NOT EXCUSES disclosu...
How to Make a Sushi Board + Spam Musubi
zhlédnutí 316Před rokem
Today I'm showing you how I made this beautiful sushi board and some delicious spam musubi. I wanted to do something a little bit different for the finish on the sushi board so I burnt it to a crisps and locked in the char with a wood hardener. this finish is called tsuyaki, and its a type of yakisugi or shou sugi ban. The Spam is a lovely Hawaiian recipe that I had once in Honolulu. linktr.ee/...

The knife block is a clever idea.
Thank you very much
Does the same recipe apply with peaches also?
Yes it should also work
How far from the end do you measure up for the 1st line of the mortice cut out? I know the seat is 12 " from the edge up.
Hello, it has been a while but if i recall it is about 16" up. You can adjust it depending on the angle you want. There are a couple of videos in the description that i referenced. One of them has free plans to download.
So glad I found your video! I use maple syrup in all my recipes instead of sugar! I can’t wait to try this!! Thank you grandpa!!🥰😘
Thank you very much
Love when makers do things for their homes and i love how this turned out. Got a new subscriber and like from me. Regards James One Handed Maker - Australia
Thank you so much
That came out looking really slick.
Thank you so much
I just made a batch of honey pickled peaches. I wish I would have watched this first. Adding some corn starch to the brine to make a syrup would have been a great idea.
Let me know how the second batch goes
@@MakerCuisine Will do, bubba. It’s peach season here is Southern Arkansas so I’ve got quite a few to play with.
How the heck did you not get the measurement right for the top. Great project except for that. Also cable staple instead of tacks for power cord.
I still have no idea where i messed up the measurements. It annoyed me for a good long while i can tell you that.
no moisture meter to confirm it dried completely??
I did not at that time though looking back it would have been a good idea and probably recommend
I came here from Spice and Wolf! Wondering why the video is 1 year ago but S&W is fairly new in Netflix. Anyhow, what’s the purpose of soaking the apples in marinade then draining it again? I really wanted to make the recipe.
Hey no problem, i marinated them first so they can actually pickle, then i strained the liquid back into the pot so it can reduce and achieve the desired thickness.
I wanted to try this because I don’t do sugar anymore. Thank you so much for sharing your grandfathers recipe ❤
Thank you very much, I hope you enjoy
Hello fellow Skill Monkey. <3
What up fam, thanks for stopping by and checking the video!
Great idea. Looks good!
Thank you so much
What a great way to make what otherwise would be wasted space super functional! Great stuff bud!
Thanks Ethan! I really was looking for a way to make the space more functional and give the area a touch of class at the same time.
What wood did you use?
Poplar
They were honey pickled peaches, not apples.
Peaches yes but apples were also mentioned. In the very least holo would appreciate them 😁
They were honey pickled pears, not peaches
Where did you get the file from?
Nikko industries, they have a lot of great files for free and some really badass sets for purchase
Awesome,thanks for the tip.
@bubbafett2700 you're welcome 😊
With no cracks?
Well some of the wood i was using for this already had cracks and was really went from being used for years in a restaurant so i was trying to dry them out so i could fill them with epoxy
I'm not into the Shou Sugi Ban finish, but that is just personal preference. The knife block is a great idea. I've not seen one like that so I think I will try to incorporate it in my next cart.
Thank you very much, i really like it as an addition. It makes it really convenient.

So my suggestion to not have apple flavoured syrup is to pack the jars as tigjtly as you can with apple, dont remove the skins, only make as much liquid as you need....you can always top up with water, and if you are using good honey, dont boil it and waste all of those amazing aromas, put it in the jars first or in the liquid at the end.
Good suggestions, i did need to adjust the ratios on my recipe but i was also trying not to buy a lot and have a lot left over. Thank you for your suggestions
@@MakerCuisine thanks. I was a bit worried with the large volume you had....but we all have different tastes and we are all learning. Also, if you sterilize the jars....ie pour boiling water in them first, there is no reason they can't last for years properly sealed when hot....ie like pears and peaches.
Seems that the apples are only a slight addition to that marinade. Will make mine where apples are the main ingredient.
I wouldn't agree with necessarily with your statement because the apples and the flavor was the point of the recipe. That said i definitely hope you try the recipe
Just in case noone has said this you are a creative woodworker and so innovative ! ❤
Thank you so much
Brother you trolled with that color right? I don't think I've ever seen someone record themselves spray on a gallon of black paint with nothing but runs. Then you chose some kids toy yellow to go over the black .To top it all off you brushed on another shade of bird dookie color on top of the yellow. I gotta admit, writing this comment has given me a laugh. Ah shit lol , you should have just de-rusted the ruler and applied the paint on lines/numbers. I hope you've since stripped it down and actually re-painted it black again.
I'm glad it made you laugh
Nice work! It was cool to see the one I made for you again. It looks exactly how I remembered it.
Thanks Jarod! I still use it all the time. It is a well made piece of art
@@MakerCuisine thanks Jacob! Merry Christmas.
Dude! I have to say, I love your channel! A chef that also makes what he needs is awesome! As one fellow maker to another, and another chef (though not in a professional manner), keep it up!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
dude! love the visuals. easily understandable what's happening along the way, every frame helps tell the story. really loved it! :)
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that!
Great stuff bud! Love the corner details!
Thanks Ethan! Its my favorite part too
What an awesome table, Jacob! Love how it turned out!! Hope you are having a fantastic day!
Hey thanks so much Mike
@@MakerCuisine And thanks for sharing your wonderful creation! Have a super Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
@PlotsVoice Merry Christmas and happy new year to you my friend
"grab the wood........" - Thanks for that. I wouldnt have thought to pick up the wood before placing it in the oven lmao
Hahaha well you know, got to be thorough.
Thank you so much for the help! I have a piece that I've had for over a year now and kept it outside throughout the cold and rain and snow, etc. It's seen a lot of weather and became the home for super tiny critters, and bringing it into my warm home for a few days to finally work on it livened them up... no thank you, little guys... plus as it acclimated it continued to "bleed" water from places i couldn't even see nor get to. After a quick Google search, this was recommended to me, and I just started it out! Wish me luck! :] I'll report back with my progress in 3ish hours (10min in...so far it's just kinda smelly!)
Yes, it'll have a smell to it for sure but when you take it out to cool that shoyld disapate
Hi. Ik im late but i have a question. Could theese penetrate wood.? Potentially skin if i make the edges thinner and coat it in clear varnish?
I wouldn't recommend it
@@MakerCuisine so it wouldnt get stuck to a plywood board?
@montrel587 no the material is not strong enough.
Does it darken the wood?
It didn't when i did this but also i was trying to go as low and slow as i could to keep the wood from being damaged or starting a fire
What's measurements did u use for ur hammer top?
5.5 ×5.5 × 9.5, tried to keep as close yo the movie prop dimensions as possible
Is it possible for the wood to crack while in the oven? Can i do this with wood that is still pretty green?
It is definitely possible for it to crack if the temperature is too high and the wood dries out too fast. Low and slow is best if you do this, and with a good deal of caution. I don't recommend doing this specific technique with green wood
Paint the ends of your wood while it's fresh or wet. It will keep it from checking alot on the ends.
Awesome 🎉
Thank you so much
If you let these sit (both in fridge and on counter) what happens to them over time? Are they preserved or will they spoil? How long do they last until they eventually spoil?
The shelf life is pretty long, i can't say for sitting on the counter but in fridge you'll get a solid 2 months at least
Staining pine! 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Whats so wrong about that?
Shout out for mentioning Spice and Wolf! (even if the pickled peaches instead). So what do the pickled pears taste like?
I'm not sure yet, after all this time i still haven't tried it with the pears
🤘 *promo sm*
Thank you!
Bro! Idk how you gon use these, but they sure look Kooool!... Oh and the Song only takes me back to The New Guy!😅😅😅
Thank you very much! Man i haven't watched that movie in a while

NICE!!!

ummm ... what is it?
Its a sushi board I made using walnut and poplar
Simple, yet beautiful. I love it!
Thank you very much
Instruction uncler, I made a Board Musubi
Darn, must have put the wood in the rice cooker instead of the rice. Just sand it down, rinse and repeat steps 1 through 3
So cool, looks delicious too!
Thanks Ethan, you should totally try the spam its so good
@@MakerCuisine I think I might have to, looks good!
