VERY important difference between these is in the menu of the series 80... it has 3 ways to handle clipping... the default is "soft clip" which is not the same as on the original 1073/84. It allows you to set it to hard clip, which will bring in a lot more distortion when driving the signal. Soft clip won't do that as you are probably aware. Besides that it also allows you to disable that circuit entirely, so you can drive it all the way without gritty distortion and just get the harmonics without clipping. Everyone always overlooks it and then say the UAD sounds different when the signal is driven. Yup, because its hard clip vs soft clip, and that's a massive difference.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Unfortunately - in this context, without a very thorough attempt at level matching, its impossible to evaluate anything. The plugin was significantly louder and therefore sounded better. Match the peak level and it will be more useful and revealing. I personally feel like they did a decent job. I have a fusion as well and it help up decently

542s are way nicer sounding. a cool kind of "trick" is to turn back the saturation and use the input knob to drive the input transformer (to my ears it sounds different than the saturation circuit). any way, good video! cheers Bernd

There's no tape head in these units. It's a transformer that mimics the tonality of tape. The marketing is wrong.

Both sound great, but very different. If I had to pick one for recording I would lean towards the G12-65. Less hyped, more balanced. I think it could cover more ground. The Creamback does sound killer for certain things, though. Great demo.

I been looking for a 500 series rack but I a lot of people say that the Midas rack has a sound issue. Do you recommend it?

Two of the best Celestions. The m is 35 oz magnet and the h is 50 oz. The original g12-65s are the only 35 oz I use, unless you're playing thrash the g12t-75s are an embarrassment to whoever designed them.

I'm in love with the new Drawmer1971 so that's where my money will go.... Everybody uses this plugin slight different i guess. I use this on kick at 60hz and 4k boost/5k cut. Bassguitar on 100hz and 1k /2k

The unit was designed for silk red to be used with 15 ips and silk blue to be used with 30 ips. Of course, you can do whatever you want with the device however, in my experience with these on the mix bus silk blue does sound better at 30 ips. This is interesting because in other reviews I have seen people tend to prefer silk red on the mix bus and at first listen this was my inclination however, after using the units for a while I find I often prefer the sound of silk blue at 30 ips. It has a more clear and open sound. To my ear the units sound very good and better than the Kramer plugin I was using but the price difference is a consideration.

What really makes a difference too when committing on the way in is that the sound is already there so you can mix fast. If a mix takes too long most of the time it isn’t going to sound better. Same goes for re-amping guitars if the player plays with the right amp and sound they will play better. Re-amping is nice for choosing a sound during pre-production but I never use it for mixing or recording. Nice channel, subscribed 🤟🏼
