Without watching the video first: This question is kind of multilayered. Who's the best in coming up with odd times, who's the best drummer who incorporates them in their playing, who's the best in picking them up and dissecting them from other's songs, who's the best in using them in the context of a song. I'd say Marco Minneman and Matt Garstka definitely should be up there in terms of how musically they use them in addition to the 3 guys mentioned. Then again, I don't believe anyone else has been put to the test quite as thoroughly as Portnoy and he kind of usually can come up with them on the spot. It's a whole other ballgame when it's someone else's parts though. 😅 Definitely intrigued to check this video out later on!

Best odd time drummers?? I say Vinnie Colaiuta and Virgil Donati. The stuff in Tool and Dream Theater has notes and a pulse throughout everything. Go listen to 11 in 11/8 by Virgil. There is so much open space that you really have to know what ur doing.

The issue for me with this album is the poor production and IMO sub-par song writing. It's no wonder it wasn't great, what with contractual obligations, label pressure, ICE-T and Cozy being told how to play the drums. The atmosphere must have been terrible. The new remix however, does sort out the production side.
