Please please please continue to develop this as far as you can take it. I’ve been putting off getting a proper NAS for a couple years, mostly because I didn’t want to figure out how to organize my files. I was really worried that I wouldn’t be able to find something from a long time ago because I decided to change how I did things. I had this exact same idea of being able to tag files, but hadn’t gotten around to looking for solutions yet. Your project is exactly what I want. Folders suck. Tags are 100% superior. I will definitely be taking a look at Tag Studio.

I'm looking forward to using this. I have a feature suggestion that might only help me lol but here goes, can you add the capability for the file app to run a scan and do a preliminary pre-classification, maybe an ML/AI plugin option?

I've bookmarked your GitHub and will definitely be playing with this in the next few months - please carry on. I went totally digital a few years ago and sifted my files into Daminion: Pros: endless custom fields/tags/categories & very flexible interface. Cons: Primarily aimed at image catalogues so struggles (and sometime completely ignores) some key file types (e.g. LibreOffice files!), entirely stand-alone so info doesn't show up in other programmes, no updates because they stopped selling to individuals and the 'enterprise' edition is mega-pricey.

I've kind of never found a good solution once Picasa ended a gazillion years ago. I have tons of image files, a lot of them for Clip Studio or Photoshop, and most file browsers don't really support previews out of the box. I'll have to experiment with your alpha a bit. I'm not sure if you're using an actual database, but it would be really handy to have one running on my NAS where the files are stored with a local client running on a separate desktop machine, probably windows. It might even be simpler to have a browser frontend on the NAS, as having end users connect to a database (or even a flat text file, not sure how you're handling things yet...), it can get kind of hairy. #featurecreep

not sure if it's possible to implement but some sort of automated tagging feature would be nice, but that would probably require some sort of image parsing feature that may or may not utilize ai. maybe make it opt in? but this was an eye opening video, very well presented and informative. looking forward to more videos and projects from you, subbed!

First video I am watching from you and my thoughts are: -that "oh COME ON!" moments are just sooo relatable as an artist and now learning GDScript for my game dev reskilling. You are practically at the whims of the world, and when you wish you finally struck gold with a good idea, you find the othe guy who did it faster. But in my eyes, your project can stand on it's own easier due to how much more in-depth you went with these magic variables known as tags. -I really REALLY LOVE your project and genuinely want to extend my support! I NEED THIS! Please carry on! I simply cannot bring myself to compare your project to Eagle, your logo design and presentation is much better in my eyes, along with the more in-depth system and thinking behind all this. -so shittin' happy you are making this FOSS! For me, more reason to support your project over Eagle!

Soo ur making a porn/amazon search ... Cool!!! I don't see why eagle needs to dupe every file, but I'm sure your "media user interface" will re address files when moved... Good luck with everything. I was happy when I found programs to remove dupes off multiple drives.

Maybe I missed it, how did you end up storing the metadata? I started a project like this a while back, and essentially I just stored a checksum of each file in a database and stored the metadata that way. Then you just write a server that watches the directory tree and updates the on disk path for any files that are moved.

Awesome project. I’d love it if I could go through an exercise of tagging say 500 files and have an AI assistant learn my tagging style and auto tag and review to accelerate the mgmt of all this. Else, and I struggle with this too, quite a bit of time is spent in the tagging process which is eclipsed by how fast we procure / get new files. Also - if eagle just duplicates the files - how is that different than like migrating them into say Notion or a similar workspace environment ? And thus circumventing the issues and limitations by changing the workspace .

I don't know if this is possible, but in regards to features I'd like to see, it would actually be cool if the GUI could display a tag or tags of your choice that trump all the others that sort of have their own.. banner of sorts? Something you could even upload custom art for. Something not unlike the way Steam displays games? So you could click on the tag that you want. Even better is if it could have "folder" tags that you could click on beneath that. I have characters of my own, and while it'd be awesome for me to search up the characters I'd want, it'd also be awesome if I could click a big picture titled after one of my characters or something, and then it shows everything tagged with that.
