Can't remember my number but I went in. Did my hitch and got out. Enjoying the perks of being a Vietnam era ver. No worries! I didn't have bone spurs!!
Spot on. Perfect scene. Mini film.
Crazy they added a jolly Christmas commercial in the middle of the draft to try to calm the nerves 😭5:23
In 1971 my number (Jan 25th) was 002. When I went for my physical I found out I had high blood pressure. That on top of being born with asthma made me 4y, not 4F. Which meant I didn't have to fight unless they invaded Phoenix. I also was charged with having to take care of all those lonely girlfriends and wives whose men had to go fight. I did my best. I should have gotten a purple heart for that...at least a purple d**k.
Quite a few movie and TV actors joined the National Guard to avoid the draft.. BTW, I drew a 347.
George W Bush you say?
The irony of interrupting Mayberry RFD
Only a coward turns his back on defending his country.
Like Donald Trump
Defending what? Last time I checked Vietnam never invaded this place. You guys attacked Vietnam first because you did not like their sovereignty in how they ruled. Stop trying to rewrite history for your own pathetic narrative. A lot of people had moral objections just like the defectors of the confederacy did during the civil war.
I was #342 (April 26). The only lottery I ever won!
Thanks for commenting this, I was trying to find what would be my placement for this draft
My number was 128. My younger brothers was 052. He went and enlisted.
I was only 7 years old when this was televised, but I still remember watching it.
I think they should do this every 2 years. Some boys would maybe grow up and except reality of patriotism
How bro felt writing this 🔥🔥🗣️🗣️🗣️🫃🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
18 that day was 1a but got a 300 something number but being a army air force brat I was in no hurry to get involved in military life
If Donald wins.....wonder if this will happen again...think about it!
Biden wants the draft. Trump is not even in office.
My number was 51. I knew someone on the draft board and he told me I was getting drafted. I ended up joining instead. (U.S. Marines 70-71)
Those officials look like they just escaped from the convalescent home.
If WW III happens…. Could come back. Probably wouldn’t matter if you’re fat or out of shape, if you’re medically able and under a certain age ….off you go.
221
I was one of the first on the list , fortunately i was only five years old
I would've been Number 13
It's a draft it's as fair as it can be
Joe Biden got 7 years of draft deferments. 4 for four his bachelors degree, and 3 more for law school. If he had just made himself available after 4 years, in 1964, he might have been found unneeded (Congress cut the size of the Army in 1964), medically disqualified for either his ‘stuttering’ or ‘teenage asthma,’ or just done his 18-24 months and gotten out before Democratic President Lyndon John switched from sending a few thousand advisors advisors to sending half a million troops to Vietnam.
what about trump's "bone spurs"? all politicians and the rich did all they could to escape the draft.
After the new bill was introduced not too long ago, this may very well become a reality once again.
Good
Fun fact: The drawing was on December 1st which got drafted. Worst birthday gift ever.
I was May 19th, i don't know what to make of it

9/18 would never have had to go at all if you share this birthday. Though wasn't born till the early '70s.
What do you mean 9/18 would never have had to go? What happened?
And a few episodes later Sam defends her after 2 staffers trashed her.
This is the manner, in which, humans should interact with one another. With Purpose, character and true is a good way to be.

Why does ot sound like music from the Addams family? Ugh.
Back then, the NFL Draft looked pretty weird
Definitely stay till the end of this one: "Toby, come quick. Sam's getting his ass kicked by a girl!"
Just saw a reel of this and sent it to my father not realizing he was 18 that year and his Birthday (JAN 24) was drawn as number 059. He was in a very serious car accident and broke both knees and was given medical deferment 😳 I had no idea !!!!! @8:58
Was it the same reel from that history acc?
I love HROT.
October 21st: 264 clearly would’ve been lucky and I’m Canadian. So that would’ve been a relief too.
I had the biggest crush on John Spencer. He was a fabulous actor and very, very handsome.
My brother was born on the 19th of January so 50/50 chance to be drafted. Scary. 😢

What’s a Main Wes?
Mae West was a burlesque star with a big chest. The Mae West for the military was flotation gear, the yellow thing. When inflated it resembled the real Mae West. US servicemen universally called it a Mae West.
