Brits [BBQ TEXAS STYLE BEEF BACK RIBS] for the first time!
Great insight. Loved hearing your reactions. Glad you got to enjoy family, new places, and bitten by the road trip bug!
LOL! "Do we have stop signs in the U.K.?" It reminds me of Inspector Drebin in "The Naked Gun" mentioning that he's noticing things he'd never noticed before, like stop lights!
$2.49 a gallon here this afternoon
I believe what you refer to as a carriage way, is what we call county roads, not as well traveled as state roads
Really loved hearing your opinions and comparisons! Still waiting for you to get to Illinois đ
I think because there are a lot of tourists navigating in Orlando, you get a lot of mishaps
Not every state allows the right turn on red. Also it is up to the individual states as to when cars are inspected. Some have it every year & some have emissions only. While you are correct that the first to arrive at the stop has the right of way, if you arrive at the same time, the car to the right has the right of way. And sometimes you have silent discussions ... you go first, no you go first, no please you go ..... and you all end up sitting there.
Thousands and thousands?
I just paid $ 2.82 a gallon at circle K in North Central Florida.
Someone let's me out or flags me thru a 4 way stop, I always wave
Most of the time here in the States, when you cross a state line, all you see is a welcome sign, sometimes there is a Welcome Center you can pull into
Ya don't need BBQ all the time, Smoked 'meats' are some of thee best! Have ya tried a Mustard Based BBQ? It's excellent for a change! Smoked Bacon! LOL Ya gotta try one!
That was great fun
In Michigan, you lose you license if you get or exceed 12 points within a 2 year period. Also, there are no car inspection requirements in Michigan
In my area, they're adding more round abouts. A lot of us really don't like them, especially in areas of heavy traffic.
You really should do the Biltmore estates tour...
NOTE " Rental companies can claim against you for lost revenue if their vehicle is damaged and unavailable for rental " Always take insurance on the car. If the car is out of service due to an accident, it can cost you $1,000 per day without the extra insurance. !! If you rent the car for 7 days and it is out of service for 10 days then it can cost you $10,000 !!
Tollways will vary by state. I live in Wisconsin, and there are no tollways, just your local roads and freeways/Interstates. Illinois to the south does have tollways, and they suck. Wisconsin has a lot more roundabouts than is average in other states, or so Iâve read.
Unfortunately the US current administration has stopped oil production in the states. We buy our gas now from Venezuela. Hoping that will change with the next administration. Enjoyed hearing about your trip to the states.
Here in Michigan, whenever my husband has to rent a car for work they give him one with an out of state plate. Itâs usually Florida or Georgia. Once it was Nevada and once Colorado. Itâs been like that since the early 2000âs when he started renting a car to keep the mileage down on our own cars. He used to travel way more before Covid. But the rental car license plates are still weird and we always joke about it. I believe you hit the nail on the head about foreigners, be wary lol! Different states have different laws and can be confusing. We have a point system here in Michigan and too many points will result in a loss of driving privileges. It goes up to 12, I believe. Or it used to. Though I have never gotten any, so Iâm not well versed in that regard.
Texas $ 2.56 a gallon
Regular unleaded in Austin TX metro area is $2.88 a gallon
Just think of the massive size of the U.S. You guys have been to four states out of 50. This place is huge, driving and people are different too from region to region. Hoping you'll get to see more of our beautiful country.
North Carolina is where I live. We have to have our cars inspected every year. Oddly enough, South Carolina does not require it. It depends on the state.
I love that y'all made a PBR event part of your visit. The teams events are a bit different than the regular season events, so you'll just have to come back in the spring and go to the world finals in Fort Worth in May. For the state shout out: Kansas in the house, and you can't beat Kansas City BBQ with the best being within smelling distance of my apartment (about a half mile). Jack Stack has the best burnt ends and spicy wings, and their cheesy corn is amazing! It's worth the overseas flight. There are a lot of really great BBQ places in the KC metro area, some of which are little holes in the wall that look like dumps, but have amazing food. (So is the bread at Avanti's in Normal, IL--seriously)
In communities, the speed limit is usually 20 MPH or under.
A LYING VPN COMMERCIAL!!!??? Unsubscribed.
I don't like Florida for many reasons but one driving. Very flat and not inspiring with the views. I can pick soooo many more states where driving is inspirational beautiful.
If you didnât like the driving Florida, donât go to Nebraska, those drivers are crazy there, I live in Iowa, and we drive so much better
The rental car plates donât match because the chain allows someone to pick up in Texas and drop off in Florida. Orlando traffic is among the worst place to drive due to so many tourists with different driving experience in their home lands. Rude idiots walk in the street, please honk at them. Some states have a driving point system, others donât. Oregon and Washington donât. Definitely donât drive ten miles over the speed limit. Police pick out those over 10 because the fines and danger are higher. I usually go 5-7 mph over. Parked on the side is for bathroom breaks sometimes. Flashing lights to another driver can mean frick you. Sometimes people wave.
Accidents don't usually bother me but over the years I've seen four where the driver or passengers are covered in white sheets, meaning they are deceased. One scene in New York two white sheets were heavily spotted in visible blood and I got physically ill and had to take a break down the road. Usually they wisk the bodies away but if very nasty, dense crunches it takes a long time to remove the remains or the entire vehicle itself. I rolled a car over once and only by the grace of God I lived after falling asleep at the wheel and hitting a guardrail at they think 55mph.
Parts of Florida are definitely worse Orlando is worse than Tampa which Iâm very familiar with since I lived just outside of Tampa for 5 years. Florida doesnât have annual vehicle inspections where I know Pennsylvania does have that. But to circle back to Florida driving certain areas are definitely worse than others
Here in the US when we cross into another state it isnât a Border. We just call them state lines. The only Borders in America are along Mexico and also Canada.
Mrs H. The easiest way to learn left from right is to make 2 L's with both hands. The left will be the correct direction, and right will be backward.
If you get a speeding ticket, your car insurance rates go up !!
$3.86 gasoline price today in Salem, Oregon. Well, it was this morning.
In Texas you can go 5 miles over the speed limit
tourists always pick the big cities. can't stand em. small towns are far better but this is my bias. not changing it either. rural gal. grew up in small town and live there most of my life
Speaking broadly, the northeastern part of the US has a lot more toll roads and you pretty much have to use them or you'll end up driving through neighborhoods if you're trying to avoid them. The South has some in cities but it's easy to find other routes. FYI, there's a setting on Google maps to pick a route that avoids toll roads
Iâm in NYC. In NY state cars are required to pass a safety and emissions inspection every year. Some states only require the safety inspection and some others donât require any inspection at all. Some states note the inspection on the carâs tag. Others, like NY issue a sticker. General rule of thumb is that your car should be inspected in the state it is registered. We have the points system here. When my son was stopped for speeding he was facing 6 points. The points increase depending on how much over the limit youâre speeding. I hired a lawyer to plead for him. We paid a speeding fine but the points were waived. The State is more interested in collecting the fine than issuing points. In NY if you accumulate 11 points within 18 months your license is suspended. You get 11 points for driving 41 mph over the limit. You donât get points unless youâre physically stopped by police. Violations caught on camera only donât carry any points since they canât always prove who was driving. I always give a wave to another driver that is courteous to me, but thatâs just me. Today I paid $3.19/gallon for the cash price (many places charge more for credit) at an off-brand gas station. The name brand stations in my area are $.20-$.40 higher than the off-brand.
Litigation. If I wave you through an intersection as a courtesy and you get hit by some other car. You can sue me because I told you it was safe to go.
Arctic lorry. I kept thinking you were referring to cold weather trucks. đ€Ł
About the people walking in the streets instead of sidewalks that is from an annoyingly persistent perception that asphalt pavement is gentler on your knees/joints that concrete sidewalks. I don't know where people have come up with this idea as it makes no sense from a physics standpoint but when I asked a jogging enthusiast that was what they told me and it seems everyone has just adopted this as fact. I had looked into this and found out that you would have to be over 800lbs and walking barefoot for there to be any difference walking on asphalt(street pavement) versus concrete(sidewalkk). Basically your shoes nullify any difference.
In Gainesville Florida đ„đ€đșđžđđȘ
The âknivesâ on the wheels serve a function in clearing brush when driving off-road.
SUGGESTION Instead of using left and right for driving directions, use driver side and passenger side.
Courtesy waves are more common in the rural areas and smaller towns here. In my rural area, we wave at EVERYONE we pass, even if they are on foot or in their yard.
I love the Texas U-Turns on the freeways here. Missed your turn...well just take the next exit, hit the Texas U-Turn, and you are right back were you needed to be. Also, the Feeder Roads are game changers when it comes to Freeway Access.
