I love the Bergman brothers series and I love Chloe Liese
God and the Gumiho sounds so good
I loved it so much!!! it was so funny and fun!
I immediately put Bat Eater on my GR list! 💖I haven't had a 5 star since May, but I just started reading The Dallergut Dream Department Store and The Spellshop this week, and both of them feel like 5 stars!
omg how do you like dallergut so far!
I LOVED the book and it makes me SO MAD how people are misinterpreting it the themes are so relevant but the Goodreads reviewers just are hating it for dumb reasons I think it’s ahead of its time and will be appreciated in time to come
the themes gave me chills!
Finally a fathomfolk fan!! Yay the book needs more love
I loved it so much and I can't wait for book two!
I just found your channel and as soon as I saw that top, I knew it was hand made. I’m a knitter and crocheter and it’s totally fabulous. Great job on both tops. Also I did some polymer clay crafting and live in very hot So. Fla. I got a small toaster oven to bake my pieces and it worked out great. Also love your book reviews and you have a very soothing voice to listen to. Oh and I totally agree about your headaches and the way you sleep in connection to your neck. Experienced that first hand.
thank you for your in depth comment!!! I love how the shirt turned out even though it took me forever to weave the ends in!! would love to see your polymer clay pieces! thanks for your comment about my voice! I hate editing myself so I never experience it back lol And yes! I will transition to a normal pillow this month I think, my NECK!
Oh I read the Manor House governess and met the author, it's very sweet in some parts.... I really need to write a review
yeah I'm intrigued even though Jane Eyre is not my thing haha
I did not have any June faves, but now I want to read all the adult sff you mentioned, and I'm especially hyped for The Spellshop! 💕Also wishing you a healthier July!🤭🤞
thank you so much, I'll need it lol, but yes it is SO COZY!
This was my favourite panel too!❤
so many faves all in one place!
Fantastic Panel! 🎉
thanks it was so easy with this group!
You're collection is amazing!!!! Literally obsessed. The purple moth and pheonix I think, are my favorite. ❤
thank you so much! yes the moth is so cute!
Oh, lots of these are on my tbr but hell follows with us is on it's way to me now
yay! That one is SO good!
the only one by her I've actually read (as opposed to bought) so far is yellowface which borrows the main plot device from an earlier novel called About the Author and which I found kind of annoying. It wouldn't have been too bad if the book itself hadn't been mediocre.⚛😀❤
The shirt looks so good!
thank you!
So many good books!! Thanks for sharing your book shelves with us. You might want to consider getting book risers. This way you are able to see the books in the back row of deep shelves. You can buy them or you can make them yourself with cardboard, wood, or even 3D print them.
That's such a fun idea! I'll look into that!
I only just started using toner recently and love it, it’s so refreshing to do. I use the Hemp & Aloe one from Moira! I like the Elf Big Mood mascara!
I have been eyeing that mascara!
I also can’t stand Jane Eyre!! I’m interested in that retelling though, I’ve read a couple I’ve really enjoyed
I know I'm like Rochester is such a meanie!
I’m also so behind on making and watching BookTube 😅 so no judgment lol
haha I know it's like....do I spend time making the videos and watching or reading....
Translated works and anthologies are also a great way to find and try new authors. Some anthologies I've seen recently: Sensory : life on the spectrum : an autistic comics anthology, edited by Bex Ollerton Xenocultures: Stories of Queer Growth Common Bonds: A Speculative Aromantic Anthology
common bounds is so good!
Excellent tip to include different formats and genres, too. I've been picking up graphic novels and poetry collections lately, finding voices I've never heard before. And indie visual novels (choose your own adventure video games) that have queer representation. I like that my local library has a different themed display each month, so I can broaden my horizons and find hidden gems that I didn't see on the new arrivals shelf or booktube.
oohh graphic novels are always a fave!
My favorite read of April was In Deeper Waters by FT Lukens, a YA adventure rescue romance with a prince and a merman.
omg yes I've been trying to read all the Lukens backlist!
I started getting back into reading this year, and this topic has been on my mind. Thank you for the tips and making it feel more approachable!
awee I'm so glad this helped you!
Thanks for letting me know, i'm going to go sign up :D
YAY!!!
💜💜💜
thanks for watching!
I loved disorientation ! A book that I feel was very similar to that book is Identitti by Mithu Sandal, I also enjoyed that one a lot :)
looking that up now!
I loved Ace of Spades too and can’t wait for Where Sleeping Girls Lie! So glad you loved that one too 😊
yes! it's so good and def diff vibes too!
I needed this guide! I loved love, theoretically and love hypothesis.
ahhh this is the best news to hear!!!!
I enjoyed hearing your thoughts here. The show was renewed after season one for two more series and season one covers books 1 and 2. Season 2 covers book 3 and a very small amount of book 4 and season 3 is going to cover books 4 and 5. Alice has said she hopes for 4 seasons to tell the story completely.( There is going to be a book 6 and there is a novella, Nick and Charlie, which is after volume 6 in the timeline.)The show is a different beast, as you've already noted, as it goes into the side characters a lot more.
oohhh very good to know, I'll have to continue watching since I really liked the SCs
It’s so interesting how you mentioned how the experience was different for you between watching the SA on screen vs reading it. I felt the same but I think heartstopper is the exception with this for me. With simular scences I never noticed the contrast between a book and a tv adaptation. Maybe it is because its a graphic novel compared to just text and my mental image is worse than what is portrait in a few drawings.
yeah that's interesting because since it's a graphic novel I wonder if that's both a pro and con to work with a medium where there are already set images or set expectations visually
I definitely needed this guide, tahnk you for your honest opinions!! Similarly, would love to see an Emily Henry and a Sally Rooney one even though I've sort of given up on Sally Rooney lol.
this comment made my day!! I haven't read any Sally Rooney so this might be the next one I take on after Emily Henry!
@@UtopiaStateofMind ahhh I hope you have a better experience with her 🤭
@@charvikoul4298fingers crossed!
I also love reading books that an author has cited or referenced in their works, or have shared in interviews what books have shaped them or something they’ve recently read!
yes author interviews are a great point!
New subscriber, happy to be here! Representation is so important, and I totally agree with you at 2:00 - people who have historically been represented don’t always understand why other groups might want more representation. White people aren’t shown as a monolith or one or two characterizations or stereotypes, why should BIPOC be the same?
Welcome!! and yes 100% agree with you in terms of even reading widely in various marginalized books!
I agree that there was no connection between myself and the characters. Station eleven i fell in love with the characters, I definitely felt like I was watching station eleven unfold as I was part of the traveling symphony. I had a miserable time reading the glass hotel. And I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that didn’t enjoy it. I am going to give sea of tranquility a chance now. Thanks for the input.
yes! I wanted to fall in love more with a specific character, but found myself flitting too quickly between them to really grow attached
Yeah I grew up checking out books from the library. I would buy books at used book stores for 50 cents. This was over 30 years ago. I don’t have storage space so I do not buy books.
Yes! I remember buying bargain books for that price and just stocking up on the oldest books from library sales or used book declutters!
I think you missed the most obvious perspective on the manga thing, namely that they’re much much shorter than a novel and while it’s still reading a very different medium than “regular” books/novel. A quick google search gave an estimate of 12-19 manga volumes per standard 300-400 page novel, or 19 ‘regular’ pages per manga volume much less than even most novels. That would put your 386 at equivalent of roughly 25 novels, which is a lot for a normal person, average for an avid reader and few for a dedicated booktuber (normal caveats about pressure to read as much as possible as you mention in the video). That being said, as someone who has read a lot of manga in the past, I don’t think the two mediums are at all comparable. I have during vacations ripped through the entirety of one piece in a few days, which according to the estimation would be 5-9 novels, which I couldn’t do even as a fast reader. So while I agree it is reading, just the format alone makes it incomparable in the context of booktube or Goodreads yearly goal or whatever. If I still read manga, I’d tally it in a separate category, like “I read 46 books and 142 manga volumes last year”, not just 188 books period.
Yeah, I definitely agree with you in terms of timing and how long it can take to read a book in different formats or mediums. I think what underlies the issue, and a conversation I see around too, is this idea of using the pure 'number' of books as a way to sort of gatekeep who counts as a reader and what kind of reading 'counts'. But maybe a rephrasing is in order, like number of hours read? For those who wanted to know if they were all manage, would it be different for them if I had read 100 mangas but the rest books? Do they consider 'verse' novels to count as a 'standard novel'? It just seems that the question seems to hide other questions within. Does that make sense?
I love your photo for YELLOWFACE!
thank you!!!!!!!
Thanks for the recs! That time I got drunk is such a fun time!
it is! I still need to read the second one!
Library looks good. Best wishes with your reading choices. I hope you are reading something good.
thank you!
I think it becomes a problem when you buy more books than you read (talking about myself lol)
haha you're also talking about me!
I loved The Queens of New York. The friendship was so cute and I loved the different povs. The audiobook was really good too imo.
oohhh I'll have to check out the audio! I love multi-cast narration so I need to see...
Very good video
thank you!
My work allows us to work with out headphones in so I’m constantly listening to audiobooks at work and then I read at home so I can see this being completely doable. Especially since I’ll DNF books at 40-50% if it’s not good but I’ll still mark it as read because I have it a good try. People need to realize that not everyone will use their hours in the same day as them. I don’t have ids or a partner so I’m free to use my time as I like.
agreed! I think audiobooks really help me listening to more books it also keeps my mind from wandering too much while I'm cleaning or setting up photos.
I find it rather fun going into dollar stores or discount stores just to find new books because its one of those places where no one cares about such items, well except me so yeah I can find some good reads for cheap.
me too! charity shops are my favorite to search around in!
i think all of the points you made are very valid, but i feel like what bugs people the most when it comes to seeing these huge "what i read this year" lists boils down to jealousy; most people who work 8h shifts and/or study don't really have the time to read much, and comparing yourself to people who have very different lifestyles and how much free time they have is really unhealthy. so yeah, looking at a list of 386 books read in year makes me go: "there's no fcking way" bc there's no fcking way *i* could've done that, with my routine. i've seen some other booktubers coming forward to talk about how it's unfair for a viewer to compare themselves to them bc some of them do booktube full-time, that's their job, some of them work from home, etc. idk, it's just of my opinion that this kind of discussion should surround your access to books (like having access to audiobooks! like you said) and how much time you have available to actively choose to spend it reading.
I definitely agree! Comparing ourselves to others never ends well and I'm definitely guilty of that in other things too! I think it's only natural for that to be the first like gut instinct. Yeah, I like the idea of pivoting the conversation to reading accessibility and I'd add reading habits too (like reading across genres or formats) and less on comparing what we all do with our time just because I agree with you and think it's a more productive conversation.
how on earth is just under 20 minutes `a long video`? I had to pause for a second to make sure it wasnt over an hour long or something.
haha I'm with you! I just feel like most my videos are shorter and full of reviews, so this was a bit different from that!
💜💜💜
thanks for watching!!

Girl that’s so cool!!! Thank you for sharing! The Scarlett Alchemist is going on my list now!

Seven Days in June has been on my list for so long! Can’t wait to get to it this year 🩵
