I really like this cover. He makes the guitar scream in a tasteful manner and it sounds overall like there is a clear narrative behind the music - much like a studio cover. While im sure there is a fair bit of improvisation here, the fact he seems to have a recited and rehearsed set of "licks" and "riffs" to fall back to, to convey a certain feeling, makes the different styles blend together seamlessly. I'm sure he enjoyed playing this, himself. It's such a nice song to just sit down and play and just listen to the instrument ring and cry and scream of joy. I can also appreciate the interpretation of a person who clearly listens to a lot of "melodic" metal type of music, judging by the way he re-arranges many of the syncopated notes that are present in the original. Normally, this would throw me off, as I feel it doesn't fit into the vibe of music like this, but I can't say I disliked it here. Also wanna clarify that I'm not shitting on metal and such either, just that I have developed a certain taste in music, like anyone else, and I would prefer for *this* 3:20 sort of thing to generally stay in metal. For this reason, many covers of shine on you crazy diamond that I've seen on youtube have felt more like a parody of the song, in metal form, and... idk; it hurts my soul to be completely honest. There is a reason that so many famous pieces of music are very simple, fundamentally. Less is more, and all that...
