Even 1 day!!! Love you guys.
2 legends, 2 great mans - metall Universe. thank you
This year I saw both Cynic and Atheist live. Both 2 of my teen favorite bands. Love and respect from Danmark. Ascension codes is amazing please make another Cynic record.
Kelly you should start doing these again, this is really cool. Two absolute legends
I second this!
Some of my favorite releases are ones that I didn't 'get' the first listen. When I pick up a new release I'll listen to it back and forth from my commute to work for a week or two.
Atheist and Cynic need more coverage on their impact on Metal.
Beautiful interview well needed
Just subbed. Hope there will be more interviews soon.
Any chance this podcast will be continuing? Its refreshing to see Kelly still so youthful and excited about our timeless old skool metal, mixed with the new. I know there are tours involved, but i just thought i would ask since the videos are from one year ago, and four montjs ago. Hoping to get new podcast videos from ya sir! * the edit is just for spelling. My phone loves to lag behind quicker typing, and the autocorrect loves to be incorrect ha.
Amazing conversation. I'm a huge Atheist and Cynic fan. Human is my favorite Death album. Thank you Kelly and Paul for doing what you do.
Two of my favorite humans who grew up with me in my teenage years. I was there but you guys were just in my cd player lol or tape player
Me and some friends got to meet the guys from Cynic after a show back in 2010. The energy was electrifying and they were all humble, down to earth dudes. Paul was so awesome, he signed our tickets and answered our questions candidly. Beautiful experience.
I love you guys, I really love you. Thank you for all the heart you put into your music, both of you.
Now that was an amazing conversation! Thanks Kelly and Paul!
Saw Cynic in New Orleans a week ago or so. Masvidal is a beautiful dude inside and out. Such an artist and an inspiration.
I never knew those details about Roger. How heartbreaking…😢
Internet world, 80% of teh people reviewing stuff are equiped to do so, they are firstly incentivized by reporting negativity.
We love you!!!!!!!!!!
I'd love to hear you two talk more.
Hoping to see you do alot more of these... very nice to put a face to the name sir.... Pieces of Time was the first guitar track to really make me step up my game.. been very obsessive since learning it. Thank you immensely..
Run of the Mill! \m/
KELLY THX GOOD TO SEE TRUE METAL MUSIC PEOPLE TAKING OVER AGAIN!!!! DO MORE MORE MORE
The guys made the tour happen. Awesome time
Great conversation between 2 legends.
Loved the NYC show. Seeing my heroes on stage was a lifetime goal for me!
It's insane how much in common Kelly and Paul have, from pioneering and implementing the jazz fusion in death metal at its early stages to (tragically) losing two of the greatest bassists this genre graced.
tony's still alive tho
@@pungentzeus Of course and he's an amazing bassist. I was just referring to Roger Patterson.
Saw both bands play the other night, and they were both fuckin stellar
Amazing! Thanks for this conversation. @Kelly, I was amazed to see Atheist perform without a click live in Mesa! It was a chance of a lifetime to see Both you and Cynic live! Thanks for coming by and saying hi to my friend and I in the crowd while cynic was performing. \m/
Saw you guys Saturday in Richmond and it’s going to be hard to ever top that show. Amazing to hear you guys spitballing about the idea of it here
Last week Atheist Cynic show in (Montreal Canada) was amazing ! Atheist setlist was near perfect ! Elements is my favorite Atheist album and thoses live songs really deliver . It's been a week and i still listening to Piece of time ,Elements,Unquestionable presence ,focus and Ascension codes .
Extra shout-out to Terrance for mentioning Sevendust in the beginning! It was great to see and hear old pals and pioneers of death metal just shooting the shit for us.
Got to see Cynic and Atheist last night in NYC. It was great being able to experience a part of my late teens/early 20s again.
2 REAL gentlemen. 2 days ago, you and I spoke outside Montreal's Fairmount Theatre after the beyond amazing concert you guys gave us. I did tell you Kelly, that what stood out the most, besides your stellar & amazing performance, was your Beautiful, Fantastic & Authentic Energy. You hugged me tight and said that meant the world to you. Well this 2h mafnificent interview emantes the exact same Wonderful energy. Love & Light to you both always ❤
Thank you for coming to Toronto!!! Insane live performance!!
Just seen the tour pass through Milwaukee on a Monday night. Amazing show! Two great humans right here. Paul literally shook hands with everyone as they went to the exit.
Paul is legend. I also credit him for introducing me to the greatest musician I’ve ever heard Allan Holdsworth. I remember reading a playlist of his favorite albums and nearly everything he put on that list was a Holdsworth album. Hearing that music opened my mind and ears to a universe I didn’t think existed. I will forever be grateful to him for that introduction…Atheist was also my introduction to prominent bass work. When I first heard Piece of Time back in the day Roger’s playing flipped my world upside down in terms of what was possible. His attack reminds me of Geddy and Doug (Watchtower). I also prefer his playing on the Unquestionable demos compared to the Tony Choy versions (no disrespect as Tony sounds amazing), that particular attack just wasn’t there. What a monumental loss for extreme music that was. I still listen to his playing to this day in complete awe and admiration, watching his live footage shows what a natural he was, just effortlessly ripping out those lines and not breaking a sweat. He may be gone but he’s not forgotten…
Suffo remains probably the tightest band I’ve ever witnessed live and I’ve pretty much seen them all. It’s an experience to feel this band in your face stopping and starting on a dime. Terrence has frightening techniques as a live (and studio) player. He is definitely a hero of the scene as far as OG legends go, fucking death metal royalty. As far as I’m concerned Doug is also an unsung player/songwriter that deserves some love. People bitch about the production but Breeding the Spawn is still my favorite in terms of sheer wide eyed, white knuckle heart stopping death metal. The tech in the riffing on that is a pinnacle for me. Absolutely ferocious on every level. Kelly (another legend in my mind) should definitely use his clout and cred to line up more interviews with other legends of the scene (Morbid Angel, Deicide, Monstrosity and even ex-members from Atheist or other bands like Cynic and the like). Keep this ball rolling bro, this is history and a treat for all fans new and old. We also need a new Atheist album…
Kelly, I can tell you're highly enthusiastic with a head bursting with amazing stories, I hate to criticize but please let your guest speak, please don't bulldoze them.
That is so true about well crafted complex albums not being consumed and enjoyed in one sitting, that was definitely true for me with both Dimension Hatross and Nothingface by Voivod, I'm ashamed to say that I strongly disliked both when they first released. I love and adore them now, both are in my top 10 all time favourite albums. What an insightful interview between 2 warm hearted wonderful people.
Paul playing with Gene, Steve, and Max in San Diego. czcams.com/video/4pbvsWdEaFs/video.html
Kelly, and this goes for Hobbs too, the sound of those records at that time attributed positively to the atmosphere, down to the rawest demo, up to burns, kernon, and richardson, today it is cookie cutter, sm57 into peavey 6505 to 4x12 with celestions, into pro tools, I'll take the old school.
This hang out was great you guys, funny and intereting,....i'd love to see that Roger and Doug photograph. Thanks!
Aeon Spoke is the only thing that kept me from committing suicide for a few years
Thanks for sticking around. Hope you're doing well.
@dpclerks09 meh. I get by. I'm gonna record an ep this winter I think but I have no plans to put it out there. I'm busy with engineering and computer science courses to pass the time. Math as a hobby. Kinda like brain metal I think Mr. Schaefer said back in the 90s.
@@jstro-hobbytech That's cool, man. One day at a time. Life is Worth Living. Being incarnated as a Human is considered a Blessing in some Traditions. Keep exploring and trying things out, and having fun. Try to lighten up and laugh more often, even just making yourself laugh helps. Keep making Music, just because it brings you Joy when you do it, no other reason. Keep the Faith, Brother🙏❤
Two of my main influences for the last 30 years. We bought a copy of that inquestionable pre-tour practice video bootleg in the 90s. I was going to hit the thanks button but you haven't enabled it
Folder of time
1:59 age and treachery will overcome youth and skill?!
3:49 interesting to note

All sorts of reveling in technical nuances :-), before: 34:09 exhilaration of asymmetrical relating
Absolutely get the people not actually listening making reviews being nonsense, Jupiter is a great album and held up to atheists reputation of making something new every album, same with cynic. Never the same album twice and that's even more impressive playing technical progressive stuff.
Can't believe I get to see you guys on the 25th.
And here we are now and they ARE touring together, can't wait to see them in a week and a half! Love Cynic and recently became a fan of Atheist to prepare myself for seeing them live
Looking forward two seeing these two bands on the end of June, in Michigan
It was a great show! Saw them at the Sanctuary June 30th here in Detroit/Hamtramck. It was great to see Cynic again after 10 years.
Too much talent for the Internet to absorb! Proud of both of you gentlemen 🖤🙏🤘
