The Wallace Collection is a national museum in the heart of London with an internationally outstanding collection of unsurpassed masterpieces of paintings, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour and porcelain. It is free and open daily.
Built over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries by the Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, it is one of the finest and most celebrated collections in the world.
So that it could be kept together and enjoyed by generations of visitors, the collection was given to the British Nation in 1897. It was an astonishing bequest and one of the greatest gifts of art works ever to be transferred into public ownership.
Today, our job is to maintain, research, and inspire the public to love and understand the Collection.

Inspiring Walt Disney at the Wallace Collection
An excellent and underappreciated video series.
In the 18th century at the court of Versailles men too would wear make up, including "rouge" (i.e. dark pink) on their cheeks
10:58 The show was already running for decenia, but there and then (1978) they apparently created modern jousting
My lord, what an absolutely beautiful piece. Makes me want to learn more about arms and armor from the region. I used to work for a Sikh family, great people.
Just noticed, isn't interesting that she and the young man are positioned so that there are prickly roses between them??. What a fragrance , but they'll sting you!! Almost as if it's saying, it's gonna "prick" you, what a double entendre!!. Or the opposite, that "fooling around" can get quite prickly!!. Interesting.........
The restoration has brought back the "ethereal -ness". The unknown of young love. The exhilarating vibrancy of spontaneity. And the misty depths going back into the painting, feels like you can dive right in!!. And those pinks , ahhh, those pinks!. The innocent blush of young love!. One can almost feel the fabric!.
Just found this channel, very beautiful pieces here, wish I can see it in person one day.
Thank you for your work and this video.
Thank you for watching!
Wonderful narration and narrator. Thank you.
The damascus pattern is beautiful. I have never seen a pattern like that in any blade.

Excellent video
Thank you for this brief glimpse into a most talented artist. It is a visual feast every time I get to see items from The Wallace Collection!!. To hear you talk in depth adds the layer of humanity that is missing in an inanimate piece of furniture. Thank you for bringing this furniture alive.
Beautiful colouring, wonderful shapes and feeling. 🥰
Thank you for watching!
Augsburg is in modern day Bavaria but it still is to the day a suabian city, so Pfeffenhauser was probably a Schwob.
I liked this presentation. Helps with exploring Baroque. Hals's realism seems to show more than any other painter warmth beyond charm in his sitters. Thanks!
I love your work. Keep it up. ❤
Bonington remains an underrated, somewhat forgotten artist. Much encouraged to see a new exhibit bring him to attention again.
Gorgeous! I can't wait to see this.
I love this series and have been watching every video you guys put out! Do you have a reference for the jorg sorg watercolor paintings? I’d love to look more into them :)
I have a print of Paul sandby south vien of shrewsbury castre
what kind of dagger is it? like what is the name of that form of ottoman dagger
Why has no one commented on the great commentary
I skipped ahead as the video started, heard Tobias voice and recognised him from those history movie reaction videos, and went back to watch the video fully. Love that guy.
Thank you for watching!
I got a 100 year old black n white print...he has rolling I stare into his eyes he's looking right at you then I burst out laughing...he's a character
The first bust we see fails the speakers' own 'test' of slavery, and doesn't show them in chains. This is self contradictory, and perhaps generalised, generic statements about all European views of Africans don't standup. As they're Italian, what empire are they allegedly representing - the Italians didn't have a colonial empire, not were they involved in the slave trade.
VERY POOR SOUND.
Rishard Wallace was hoodwinked more than once .
That woman certainly has long thighs.
Thankyou i love this and also own boulle copies
The vocal-fry is bad! Otherwise, it had the potential to be a great presentation.
Very Interesting.
Why doesn't it run anymore?
Another excellent presentation by Dr. Helen in both content and execution.
Excellent material and presentation! I will not look at 19th century French pieces with more respect.
send back to turkish
Maximilian's armour at 16:05 with the slick horizontal slit in the helmet has a distinct Robocop vibe about it. It looks so futuristic or maybe the creators of Robocop took unexpected inspiration in the artefacts of the past.
Thank you for making this.

Thank you Toby, very interesting.
Marie Antoinette had a great eye, good taste.
Very interesting, well worth watching, only sorry I didn't get to see the exhibition in person.
Hi there! You can revisit Frans Hals: The Male Portrait via our online exhibition here: www.wallacecollection.org/explore/explore-in-depth/virtual-exhibitions/virtual-exhibitions-frans-hals/
@@TheWallacecollection Cool😀
can you adjust the color on the thumbnail or replace it with the correct colors as the artist intended? - this pic is currently and obviously far too yellow (pre-varnish restoration obviously) - just move the slider in a photo editor towards the cool and blue side, do it for the future inspiration of real artists out there! This inattention to detail suggests a sloppy editor who is not trained in how to see fine art - you can fix this if you really care about keeping the public interested in the best art out there, please.
man the end is even more painful to listen to during the current war. wonder how many russians will never joust again...
I love these works of art. Nobody today can quite capture what these masters' paintings did. The other thing, is these paintings had a suggestion hidden in them, the more you look the more you can't not see.
Thank you for watching!
Many thanks. Good and clearly commented video. I would be interested to know how much you can still see of your opponent and your surroundings with such a helmet on your head.
Poor sound makes it hard to listen to. Need soft room not all hard surfaces. High reverb time = bad
Tell the V&A to give his throne back.
