20 gallon long reef update w/ corals and leds
This is the 20 gallon long reef packed with frags. I got the filter going and the ecoxotic stunner strips mounted and hung. I have the stunners from the fluval and the 20 long linked together with splitters to the ecoxotic one touch controller. They both run the same light cycle

Just got the tank wet and put dead rock in. Dr. Tim's One And Only will go in after that to seed the tank with some live nitrifying bacteria, then some ammonium chloride to give the bacteria something to break down and start the cycle. I will let you know how things go.

I am going to be upgrading the 10 gallon to a 20 long. In the mean time the fish and corals will be transfered into my new fluval spec v once cycled. Going with dry rock/possibly live sand and using dr tims one and only to help the cycle move along faster and get the right bacteria in the tank wihtout the pesky pests that come with live rock. Will be ordering from BRS, ecoxotic, and various equ...

    Thank you very much for sharing, I found that my Spec V filter is not sucking much water in, no matter i turn switch up or down. How about this Mini-jet 606, could you share a video of your current tank? thanks.

    Hi, I'm just wondering how the media basket has been working out for you. I got the media basket and they arrived today, but what I noticed is that there's actually some space between the basket and the walls of the tank around it. It seems like water could just flow right down the side instead of down the middle through the filter. I just wanted to see what your thoughts on are these and if you've had good experience with them so far. Thanks!

    I thank you for the vid. I am following you're footsteps in upgrading my fluval as well. The stock fluval pump is rated at only 83 gallons per hour max. The new pump should work wonders and be effective with my hydor water deflector.

    I wouldn't start with anything smaller than a 20 gallon if you have the space and money to do so. It is always easier to spend the money once because the parts and pieces are really specific to each tank size give or take a little, ie the flow needed for fish/corals, filtration needed for water volume and given fish/corals, etc. My buddy is setting up a 33 long which mark my words I WILL HAVE in the future. Same height and depth as a 10 gallon but 4ft long. check some vids of those.

    @nickaupperle5989 Před 11 lety

    Awesome glad I could help!!! I couldn't agree more on doing away with the powerhead since we are so limited on space with these tanks, it also gives it a much cleaner look. Thanks again and it is always comforting to know that I helped someone out.

    @micahgrego Před 11 lety

    Hey, man! Just wanted to thank you. Your Fluval Spec V vids have helped me immensely in setting up my nano reef tank. That 606 is a great way to skip on a powerhead - especially in such a small tank - and keep the tank looking very clean.

    I get my mixed saltwater from my local fish store....he only deals in saltwater stuff and i believe he only has ro water. never given me an issue but many recommend the di to just get everything 100% pure. I don't require a lot of water otherwise i would just buy a ro/di unit. I will be getting one once I buy a house and get a 220 or bigger tank rolling!! lol.....what size tank are you wanting to start out with? Thanks I love my tank also. I am due for a much needed update

    If you were only going fowlr... yes the stock lights would be just fine. It is really hard to resist adding corals and once you add one its on from there. I am really diggin the ecoxotic leds. They have proven to be a great fixture and would highly recommend them. The price is great and the quality is awesome.

  • @nickaupperle5989
    @nickaupperle5989 Před 11 lety

    I think you could leave them there for their whole life but for full grown mature clowns personally I would like to see them in a minimum 10 gallon tank. The 5 gallon is only a temporary home until the 20 long is ready which it is, I just haven't moved them over yet. Then the 5 gallon will be a frag/qt tank for new corals or sick fish just in case. Always need a back up in the marine world.

  • @TopNotchTanks
    @TopNotchTanks Před 11 lety

    Can you leave the two clowns in the 5 gallon their whole life or do you have to sell them off when they reach a certain size
