A Eucharistic Advent, Chapter II: "Christmas Every Day"
We don't often associate Advent with the Eucharist, but the two are intimately connected. In this second chapter, we discover that every day is a kind of Christmas, as the Nativity echoes down across the ages in the Real Presence of Christ on all the altars across the world.

A Eucharistic Advent, Chapter III: "Right and Just"
zhlédnutí 96Před rokem
We don't often associate Advent with the Eucharist, but the two are intimately connected. In the third chapter, we recall that it is "right and just, our duty and our salvation, to always and everywhere" give Him thanks. And because "Eucharist" means "thanksgiving" in New Testament Greek, the greatest way that we can give thanks is to accept his gift of himself in Holy Communion.
A Eucharistic Advent, Chapter IV: "Come All Ye Faithful"
zhlédnutí 66Před rokem
We don't often associate Advent with the Eucharist, but the two are intimately connected. In this final chapter, we recall that although Jesus was born in Bethlehem, the shepherds still had to leave their fields and go to him. He has come close, but we need to take the last few steps forward to receive his Body and Blood.
A Eucharistic Advent, Chapter I: "Left Behind?"
zhlédnutí 116Před rokem
We don't often associate Advent with the Eucharist, but the two are intimately connected. In this first chapter, we ask if we have been "left behind" after Jesus ascended to the Father. Yes, we have the Holy Spirit, and Jesus in our hearts and minds, but do we still have tangible communion with him?
Are the Ukrainians Fighting a "Just War?"
zhlédnutí 279Před 2 lety
For sixteen centuries, the Catholic Church has had a "Just War Doctrine." Vatican II, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, actually specified criteria that must be met for a war to be "just." In this video, Greg Smith applies these criteria to the current conflict in Ukraine to answer the question, "Are the Ukrainians fighting a just war?" Greg is the dean of the Lakeshore Academy for the ...

Did Two Medieval Monks Prove That God Exists?
zhlédnutí 253Před 2 lety
"Faith seeks understanding," said St. Anselm. During the Middle Ages, two medieval monks argued that belief in God was rational. St Thomas Aquinas argued that God is reasonable because there must be at least one non-contingent thing. But St. Anselm argued that the very definition of the word "God" implies existence, in his famous "Ontological Argument."
Why Did God Become A Man?
zhlédnutí 861Před 2 lety
For a thousand years, Christianity had a standard explanation for "the Incarnation," until a medieval monk named Saint Anselm reframed it as we understand it today. God incarnated himself in Jesus so that we could be saved from sin and find eternal life but that doesn't really tell us *why* he had to be incarnated. Those were ends, but why was in the incarnation the means? Wasn't there another ...

After centuries of generous donations, legacies and bequests, by the 16th Century the Monastic Orders in England had become wealthier than the Crown! Who knows where this might have ended had Henry VIII and his chief advisers not had the foresight to bring about the dissolution of the monasteries. The dissolution of the monasteries and bringing the religious leadership under secular control was undoubtedly a major factor in England and later Britain's rise to global dominance. Despite Spain and Portugal's enormous wealth from their first-mover empires, their failure to bring religious extremism under secular control ultimately shifted power northwards towards England, Holland and France. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Harry and his key advisers for starting the English Reformation with this key step of ending the power of the rising theocratic behemoth in England.

😊The medieval monks renounce the earthly world to form a church to lead an ascetic life, but ended up creating a worldly church and leading a hedonistic life. Jesus would be so proud of them, not.

What almost EVERYONE doesn't know is that during the "dark age" the kings and royals had all the power and control of pretty much everything. It was after he monks and nuns decided to come out of their convents and monasteries that Europe came out of the dark ages. IT WAS THE TEACHINGS and guidance of monks and nuns that helped society to progress, NOT the governments.

The monasteries are full of )ews. Many of the Abbots, Inquisition and Bishops are also descended from Jay's. (Abbot , meaning father, is an ecclesiastical title given to the male head of a monestery in various traditions, including Christianity. The office may be given as an honorary title to clergy men who are not the head of a monestery. The female equivalent is abess). Many of them are in the bottom of their heart convinced chosenites, even if they also, in order not to have to abandon worldly goods, pretend to believe in Christianity". Source: the )ewish Spanish Encyclopedia. - St. Ambrose, a Bishop of Milan, and great Church father, said to his Flock, that the Synagogue "was a godless house, a collecting place of wickedness and that God himself had damned it. I declare that I have set the Synagogue on fire or at least given the crowd the mandate to do it...And if it is said against me, that I should not have personally set the Synagogue on fire, I answer that it was burned through the judgement of God". Donations were crucial. Nobles would want forgiveness for action in ear, etc., so they would donate or even fund a new monestary to "buy there way into heaven". Monks were even revered by high ranking clergy such as bishops and the pope himself.

As for monasticism, it was invented by them; We did not ordain it for them, but (they adopted it) to seek Allah’s(God) pleasure, then could not observe it as was due. So We gave the believers from among them their reward. And many of them are sinners.
