Simple camping on a hot summer day
I headed for the hills on a summer day to enjoy some peace and quiet. I found a nice spot to see the stars at night and as I was scouting the spot a hornet flew in and stung me in the ear.
There was fairly fresh bear scat near the campsite too so I was extra cautious about leaving food out.
Overall it was a nice little getaway and pretty basic camping trip.

    very nice camping adventure ! and I agree those camping meals are always delicious whatever we cook either a sophisticated meal or a simple instant pack meal, the enjoyment of being outdoor make us appreciate all food. Thanks for sharing an example with 8 foot bed, like I am considering this or the Tune for my 8' truck. I am not delighted with the side shelves that come with the M though - I'd rather build a custom 7ftx 5ft sectional sofa (removeable, foamboard frame) on one side but the shelf would be in the way. On the other side I'd build a 8020 based slide in 6 foot kitchen cabinet, but again shelf in the way. I suppose the shelves can be cut out. I've thought of just using a 450W electric heater, as I have a 3.6KWhr Ecoflow pro, and solar, and could add alternator charger (not for below freezing).

    • @scottalpine
      @scottalpine Před 11 dny

      Yeah the shelves were a pain but also nice sometimes but the in the future if I were to go with another pop up camper I would not want the shelves. Better to have a blank slate and just build out the interior. The project M is a really solid unit but there’s a lot of competition out there now. I’d go with whatever company gives you the best bang for your buck. Depending on how much you run it a 450 watt heater will burn through power but definitely give it a try before going all out on another system. Diesel heaters are great for dry heat but they are bulky and can be messy plus the ticking from the pump can be irritating, Ive also used a Wave 3 and a Mr heater but they add a bit of moisture inside not too bad if you air it out and keep a vent or window cracked. A 12v electric blanket is great for sleeping too, it’ll keep you warm but the cabin will still be cold.

Some of the newer trucks use traction control to brake a spinning wheel as a virtual locker. Not as good as a true locker, but they do work. Sounds like the Frontier gets decent mileage. @scottalpine Před 18 dny

      @@ElectricDanielBoone So far the frontier has been great. I do miss having the longer bed at times but the maneuverability and better mileage is fantastic. I always prefer the manual locking differential, I like to pick when I want it locked or open. I’ve seen the softroading the west channel, I believe he has a pro 4x which has a locking differential and better suspension for off-road. I didn’t want the pro4x because if I want to modify it later I would probably be changing some of those components so better off to start with a regular setup and go from there in my mind anyways. The DJI mic is great. It’s not cheap but does a great job, I mostly just need it for windy conditions or if I’m farther away from the camera. Great set up with your solar, battery pack and refrigerator! We haven’t tried one of those before- must be nice to have a cold drink on such a hot day! We haven’t tried a paddle board either - I guess I’ll have to try on a hot day ‘cause I’ll probably dunk too. Beautiful lake with views of Rainier!! 😄☀☀☀

      @@JenniferLupine Thanks, I usually just bring a cooler with ice for short trips but thought I’d run the ole fridge this time to see how it faired on the hot day. I’m pretty terrible at paddle boarding but do ok kayaking and do really well at falling in the water. It’s actually Mt Adams doing a great impression of Rainier.

I’ve got a hiking book on trails near Adams - hopefully I’ll have time to get down there next summer for some exploring. It’s beautiful! (Hopefully with a little practice you’ll get get good at your paddle board! ) 👍👍

    You sure had your share of bugs! I liked hearing the thunder, though it might not have been fun being out in the forest and hearing it. We like tent camping, and having a big enough tent really helps! I’m a fan of good gas mileage too!! 😆👌🦟🦟🦟

      @@JenniferLupine Yes quite a few bugs there. The thunder was pretty cool to hear, I’d planned on going out on the lake but decided to stay ashore and play it safe. Tents are great, especially if the car can’t make it to the nice campsite.

    What a beautiful little lake, and I love the view of Rainier from there! I don't think I've ever been to this campground. How well did those citronella torches work for keeping the bugs at bay in your camp? Bugs are so bad right now.

    Forest Service get millions of dollars to basically not do their jobs. Dude spends $120 in fuel and an afternoon to clear a whole trail for the season

    • @scottalpine
      @scottalpine Před měsícem

      @@psychology2217 Sometimes it takes a bit of work to get to those places. I think there’s lots of roads that get blocked and the forest service just leaves it blocked cause of how much the woods are getting trashed in the last several years.

    Remind me of Mount Saint Helens just before it blew the top. I think Mount Shasta is the one that really needs to be watched very carefully. The land around it has been slowly but surely rising over the years so that's usually indicative of magma moving into the chamber below the mountain. The amusing part is there's a estate called "Chateau du lac". It's been on the market for years. It started at like about 8 million dollars and it's down to about 3 million now. I think the property owner has an idea what's going on and he's trying to bail.
