SharePoint Page Headers are gone... Create your own!
In this video, we look at SharePoint Page header design. With Microsoft finally allowing us to remove the default page header, we now have a massive opportunity to create our own styles and experiences 🙌
👨‍💻 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
- How to remove the default SharePoint page header
- How to create your own page header using section backgrounds
- My tips and tricks to use this capability to create seamless header-scapes (that’s now a word I promise!)
🎯 WHY WATCH
This video aims to demonstrate ways to combine the recent UI updates to Sharepoint Online to think outside the box and get creative with our pages. We are in unpredicted territory where we can finally replicate UI design, which is commonplace within external websites, right within our sites. This video explains how I am doing it and walks through some examples. Hopefully you take away a little inspiration 😁

    Wow, this is what I've been looking for! I've gone through the whole process and decided to replace some of the darker shades for other branding colors we use. However, my new theme doesn't reflect the new colors. My accent color appears in the theme, but it doesn't replace the darker shade within the text font colors. Are we not able to swap out more than one?

    It's very clever but clearly you aren't creating a custom web part at all. So, I kinda feel I was hooked in to your video under false pretences 😁 Would I use this in a production environment? No. For the simple reason that you're then a hostage to fortune i.e. if/when Figma decide to change how their product works - especially if you're using a free account. If Figma, for instance, decide to limit free accounts to X views per day or added "Made with Figma" slap bang in the middle, then your beautifully crafted "web parts" are suddenly not so clever. ☹ However, if it's possible to export this out of Figma as a fully functioning web page which you could host separately, then I'd change my opinion. But it is still an inventive trick nevertheless. 👍

    • @Academy365-Dan
      @Academy365-Dan Před 13 dny

      Thanks for the comment and sorry for the false pretences... Well yes, it technically is not a coded web part but more of an alternative approach to get the effect. This definitely falls into the experimental category of things you can try and provides an opportunity to get creative without the need to code. I do agree that there is always that risk with free versions of an application but my personal thought on that woud be that if you are using a free version and are getting real value out of it, then I tend to support the product and sign up (as long as it is not exstorsionate of course!). I would not use this approach for a critical area like a homepage but you can have a hell of a lot of fun with it in specific scenarios... and if all else fails, being aware of apps like Figma and learning to use them is a valuable skill in itself for visual communication. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this one, very good points to consider! 😁

      It was out and then rolled back for some strange and mysterious reason. Microsoft are letting the side down here without communicating why they have removed this feature after literally introducing it. Maybe somebody has the answer?. In the mean time, if you want a page with no header, you can always go to site pages, copy the existing 'Home' page and then edit that as a new page. It will not have the page banner. It's a long standing work around. Just note that you won't have the option to publish these copied pages as 'News Posts'. 😉

One option though that I have found is good would be the hero web part in a full width section. HOWEVER... not in the tiles layout (this is massive in a full width section and hides the rest of the page), choose the 'Layers' layout and go with a maximum of 2 layers (I generally just use 1 layer). TIP... if you change the section background you can change the colour on the text part which can be nice. Hope this helps! 😁

    Hi @Academy365-Dan, I am desperate to understand if we could use lists to work as a PIM (Product information management) which I think its possible after watching bunch of your videos, where we create product information but the question is the assets. Our goal is to have a folder with photos like, photoshoot photos of ambient or ecommerce products, and when someone searches for one SKU they can find all the images related to that SKU, even if one image has 3 SKU's in ambient..

    • @Academy365-Dan
      @Academy365-Dan Před 13 dny

      Hey! I think there could be many solutions to this. One might be to have a "sister" document library where you have a folder for each SKU containing the images. You could then link to this folder from the the product row in the list. Another option would be using a custom search method with the PnP Modern Search Web Parts. This would be a lot more advanced but potentially worth the investment of time to figure out if this is supporting a core process within your business.

    Great video! How did you manage to place a filter on the secondary page with the chips (8:24)? Does each product have a page and views for each one? Or is there a way to make just one page that is filtered based on a parameter?

    • @Academy365-Dan
      @Academy365-Dan Před měsícem

      Hi! The chips page is just a regular site page, so there would be a dedicated site page per menu Item. You're spot on with the set up 👍... I set up a list called nutritional info and aligned it with each product (or at least that's what I would have done if I had the time). Then, within that list I would have had a view per product. Then, I created a seperate list of sizes (SML MED LRG) which I used to dynamic filter on the page.

I only recently tripped across Academy 365 and have been binge watching ever since. It has been like getting a drink of water from a firehose. But they are so well done and presented that I just keep going (but I know I will circle back and watch many more times ... over and over). This video was pretty deep for me, but I NEVER would have found these features and techniques on my own. Thank you ... thank you ... thank you...

    Thank you for this video. Great information. I am just getting started with lists and forms. I have one list that has a major horizontal scroll issue. Is there a way to have a lookup list that has all of the same options for every row in the original list but it can be customized? Essentially I am trying to track which software add ons each requestor has approved. The list of available add ons is the same but each requestor or row in the main list can have different ones
