Very thought provoking video!!! What does this mean for FVR? Should students only be able to pick books that we know they can understand. I group my books by level in my FVR library and always try to guide them by telling them that their books should feel easy to them but invariably I will see kids “reading” books that I know they aren’t able to comprehend, especially not 90% of the vocabulary, and I know it can’t be helping them to acquire the language. Sometimes kids don’t even realize when their comprehension has broken down or some kids are used to not being able to understand and they just push on thinking that’s what language learning feels like! I don’t want FVR to be a waste of time for students and after seeing that video, I wonder if for some kids, allowing them to choose books they just can’t comprehend makes it a waste of time. Maybe I should show them this video and really dig into it with them?!?!

Oh! (I’m establishing that I understand and find this fascinating!) Seriously, I’ve been a Spanish teacher for a LOOOOOOOOONG time kind of stuck in the audio grammar mode, and yet knowing there was a better way. I obviously used a lot of C. I. over the years, but not in a purposeful way. I’m in my 30th year of teaching, and this resonates so MUCH with me! I wish I had learned about it before. My only excuse is that I was having success with what I was doing, so I didn’t take time to research an even better way until I landed on this during my Covid scramble for meaningful input. Thank you! I’m so excited for the remaining years of teaching that are ahead... even with the daunting challenge of Covid. Thank you ladies! I’m soaking this all up.

Hi, I'm trying to learn about movie talk and TPRS in general. It seems engaging for the students. My wonder is, how do you keep up at that pace? I mean, if you have to teach 5 classes a day at that rhythm where you as a teacher are constantly moving, talking, asking questions and answering? It seems that the student, however engaged they are, they just sit and watch. There should be a balance where they have to move around, especially because they are young and full of energy and you.... well, you are pregnant!

This is the best concept I heard today. I used to think the purpose of circling is repetition. Even though I use it for comprehension checking, too. This has completely changed my perspective of circling. Thanks! Martina.

Thanks for the video. The students are able to comprehend and answer all your questions and understand all your statements. I would have liked to see more of a lesson where the students are introduced to new material through MovieTalk. This looks more like a review session, but still a great video, thanks.
