Building a Linked Repeater, Part One
zhlédnutí 623Před 7 měsíci
The initial putting together a linked repeater for the Arkansas GMRS Repeater Group. This is Part One....installation at a site comes later!
Im confused, I did the tutorial exactly as was shown, and when I restarted my radio, it had replaced channels 1&2 with the two channels. But the frequency was not the same it had changed from the 462.700 to the old frequency for channel 01, the frequency for the repeater in my area is also 462.700. Same with Channel two, the simplex channel, new channel name came in but it was the old frequency from channel 02. Another thing, when I say read radio initially it actually doesnt load any of my other pre-programmed channels. It shows that it loaded the radio, but when the screen appears, it only shows added memory channels. The radio I am updating is a TD-H3 by TidRadio.
So after much trouble of finding a solution I figured out that I could fix this by just resetting my radio and then taking the Chirp image and moving the channels I created to custom new channels that were not locked down using chirp and reuploading the image using Chirp to my radio, just letting everyone know if they are having the same issue. I have read in so many places that according to FCC regs, the standard channels that come with the radio are mostly locked down. Which is strange why this is given that you can just create new channels outside of the standard channel list.
lol he thinks 1k his cheap ,,, use cheaper radios not Motorola lol
Those radios in the video are like $100-150 each... That's about as cheap as you can get... Even the junk BTECH and Radioddity mobiles cost that much. Repeater cost isn't in the radio(s), it's in the antenna system, feedline, duplexer, and everything else that comes with repeater ownership.
Very cool setup. Would you be so kind as to list the components you use? I would like to setup up same way as you.
How can i save chirp to my desktop on my computer so i dont have to download it each time i use it
I was programming in a uv21 pro v2. I downloaded the channels and in the chirp on dtcs code there is an A 23 the polarity is NN the Rx dtcs is 23 cross mode is tone-> tone dose anyone know why this is? It Lso is on the all ham channels i put in. Some of the channels say on the mode fm and some say nfm
Thank you !... This helped me a lot with a new Repeater in my area with different Trans & Receive Tones :)
Still do not comprehend. I am using CHIRP and trying to put a repeater tone of 100.0 input and 100.0 output...I see nowhere that allows me to enter both...if I try to enter the second one it eliminates the first.... If I do it like you showed here Tone 100.0 + 5.00000 when I upload it to the Baofend it shows transmit tone 100.0 but the Receive tone is OFF (should be 100.0 also AKA OUT?)
Thank you for the video. It helped to clarify the difference in using Tone vs. TSQL. I've programmed a repeater into my UV-5R and my brother's RA-89 with identical repeater settings, similar to your example. I can talk with others on the repeater, and he can talk with others on the repeater, but we cannot talk with each other via that repeater; I am stumped. Any thoughts???
You are probably too close to each other if you're both using a repeater pair. The radios will "desense" each other unless the repeater is powerful enough. You'll need to use a simplex (radio to radio) channel for that unless you get some distance from each other and use the repeater.
@@ChrisEbert388 You are right, we were only about 50 ft apart when testing the configuration. Actual usage will be 40 mi apart with the repeater halfway between us. I will repeat the test today at our distance to confirm that was the problem. Thank you again.
Please wear gloves and a respirator when using any and all poisons. Being healthy when you're older isn't silly.
This was great!! My question is concerning the DIY channels on the gm30 software. When I've added in frequencies the default offset of +5 hasn't been properly displayed as +5. The 462 will go to 467 but after the (.) It won't be the same number like it should. 462.550 will be 467 525. That number will be in a shaded gray box so I can't manually change it. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
Can you make your own

Good afternoon good afternoon I'ml
Do you have any videos that go into detail on the different Cross modes?
Cross modes is just a way to blend different CTCSS and DCS tones. For instance, a repeater may have a digital input tone on its input frequency (DCS) and a analog output on its output frequency. Example: Input was 467.600 (D412N) and Output was 462.600 (141.3 Hz) > For this instance, you would pick DTCS->Tone Examples from Chirp of all the different methods can be found at chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/DevelopersToneModes#:~:text=A%20cross%20mode%20of%20%22%2D%3E,Otherwise%2C%20use%20Memory.
@@arkradio1 thank you gorgeous the quick reply and awesome video!

Im trying to open an excel file with updated repeater info..Im getting error code..Any thoughts? WRZX464
What radio is that?
Quansheng UV K5 or some other clone
Thanks for the info, the Ghostbuster franchise community really wants to learn more about this
I het to because I set off my own repeater which IDs on my behalf
You guys take all the fun out it!!!
You'd be surprised how many hams break this rule too
Not any ham that is a member or radio reference.
Agree, but.... There are a ton of users on channels/repeaters or not that don't shut-up. They talk as frequent and as loud as a flock of backyard hens.

Trying to program just the gmrs channels into my uv 5r, but the upload to radio isn't available. Frustrated. Also Old Guy Syndrome
You need the proper cable with the proper installed software (not the chirp software but the cable firmware). Did your cable come with directions?
@@OShackHennessy The cable is the Baofeng branded one included with the radios. I can download the couple of gmrs channels I managed to program into the unit, delete them, then bring up the preformatted list, delete the repeaters and no farther. The Upload is not highlighted. Did the reset to Factory as they are new radios. One at a time is tedious to say the least. Probably just missing something in the vids. Back to OGS. Goes along with CRS " Can't Remember SH*T"
The stock channels are a csv file, have to be an img file. Nowhere to change the file type to upload
Run your site of a 12 battery battery and dump the UPS
Like your setup but I have problem. Where can I get the program software and how much does it cost? I have motorola cdm's and ht1250's.

Awesome! I was wondering how you guys had 3 repeaters all on the same frequency.
Great job! I'm new to GMRS, got my license, and I've been trying to find a video that explains how to program frequencies and I'm so glad I clicked on your video! This gives me the confidence to program the frequencies correctly in my radios. You did a great job explaining the process! Thank you again! WRWQ963
Cheap? Your definition of cheap is not cheap...lol.
In the repeater building world, this is most certainly cheap compared to a lot of others!!
Thank you, great video and well explained. Just got my call sign today and need to program my radios. I had no idea how to program simplex and now I do and understand the difference better.
Does the radio automatically connect to the nearest Repeater after being programmed with CHIRP?
If you program the radio correctly and are within range of the repeater, it should work.
If you clean that room you will have way less build up on the electronics. I can’t imagine what they look like inside their housings
Sad Ham
How did you get your radios programed . I have some CDM 750 Motorola radio that I would like to program for GMRS.
Yes sir, some of us have a preference for something a little better than the average $30 CCR... I'm a fan of Icoms with a full keypad because with the "dealer code" you can program in the field/on the fly without a PC. O know SOME Motorolas are FPP. I have a LMR, GMRS, and an Amateur license but would rather not have to carry two or more portables. Next year I'll be in the market for one of those Icoms or Motos
I have Baofeng UV9r radios. When I switch to frequency mode on any channel the frequency shown is not as listed in the Chirp chart. The radios Tx and Rx to each other on any channel. Up loading Chirp to the radio does not change the frequency shown on the radio. For instance GMRS channel 15 on one radio shows 462.577 the other shows 462.565 when the Chirp chart shows channel 12 to be 462.550. Could someone please explain this?
Promo'SM 👍
Just realized I mistakenly added a F to my call sign WRXM427 🙂
Would you be willing to share your software setting with me. I have two CDM 1250's along with the programing software and cable. But im not doing something right. These Motorola's have way more settings then a regular ham radio. Im just trying to build a plan repeater, no digital.
I have the same Vertex Standard, do you have yours linked via the Internet? If so, I'd appreciate if you could share where you purchased or how you made the interface cable. Thank you.
What a great Video And it helped me figure out what I did wrong ON a repeater That I can Hear but couldn't transmit I had it on tone when it should of been tsql much appreciated 20:00
I am new and in FL and would like to know how to set up internet and wondering if you need permission for using repeaters and does that matter depending on open system ? We have a group that is very new and love the system you have and we also will be doing monthly. I am really green so any info or contacts I appreciate ! also script ?
Which type of feedline are you using? Do you know the elevation of the Eldorado antenna and estimate of the range? Thank you in advance. 73 de WRYR751, KF5HCR
Well that was spastic and cringey butt entertaining😁😄🤣💯
