Oh, one other thing worth mentioning……you can see Highway 1 in the background. I don’t know how to explain it but the sound of the cars running up/down that highway was like ever-present white noise that you always heard, especially at night and early in the dark morning. Not horns or engine noise as much as tire noise. I’ll never forget that and when I go back to visit, will be instantly familiar.

Pretty cool. A lot has changed since I was last there in 1991! HOWEVER……I did recognize DISCOM hill (ran that enough times on our runs out to Seaside) and the post gym building is still there. Also my old company HQ building across from the gym still being used for something.

Thank you for the fly over. Brought back memories. I was stationed at Ord 1990s, until closing. My father went to basic training st Ord. See the barracks? Mine were nice like apartments. Ine been in thede basic military Army built barracks. What Ive always thought, is that they inspect, repair, fix up and section into Homeless habitats. A large number of homeless coukd have been housed.

It breaks my heart to see Fort Ord in ruins. I did Basic and AIT at Fort Ord in 1970 and my brother did Basic there in 1963. Even in 1970 the wooden barracks were well kept as well as the landscaping. I visited the Fort five years ago and it is a mess with the trees overgrown, the grass dead and full of weeds, graffiti on and in the buildings, and the barrack trashed. Although I only spent 18 weeks of my life there it had a big impact on my life and what was going to come.😢
