Chapter 6-Amman, Jordan
We are at the end of our tour of Jordan. We only have one day to explore Amman but we make the best of it. We start at the Amman Citadel. The best is the Jordan Archeological Museum there. Then we climb to the top seats in the Roman theater for a great view. We discover a small museum of Popular Tradition. Then we are loose in the streets for some street photography.

Chapter 5- Jerash, Jordan
zhlédnutí 303Před 5 měsíci
Jerash, the City of Columns, is one of the best preserved Greco-Roman cities outside of Italy. We walk down the Cardo Maximus imagining what this place was like when carts and chariots clattered down the street. In the Hippodrome we imagine chariot races and gladiator battles. In the Temple of Artemis we image the incense smoke wafting through the 40 foot columns. Credits "Thunderbird" Kevin Ma...

Wadi Rum is an other-worldly landscape, which is why it has been used by movie producers as a set for "The Martian" and "Dune". In this adventure we are glamping at the Discovery Bedu Camp in the heart of Wadi Rum; enjoying Jordanian wine as we watch the spectacular sunset. We are exploring the red rock landscape, learning about the area's geology, discovering ancient petroglyphs and inscriptio...
An Abridged History of Jordan and our Jordanian adventures begin in Aqaba

Our guide, Jaber, gave us a history lesson at every stop on our way through Jordan. As we start to tell the story of that trip, I thought it was important to start with an abridged history of Jordan and the region. The Middle East is a complicated place today because of its complicated past.. Then we have a short stay in Aqaba to sample some of Jordan's natural wonders. Credits: "Crusade" Kevin...

Chapter 6- Temples of Abu Simbel
zhlédnutí 309Před 6 měsíci
From Aswan, we are taking a day trip to Abu Simbel. Ramesses II built two amazing temples at Abu Simbel in the 13th Century BCE. What is even more amazing is that these temples were moved in the 1960's to escape the rising waters of Lake Nasser when the Aswan High Dam was completed. Now the temples look like they have always been there; not a seam to be found.

A Dahabiya is a barge like vessel with 2 lateen sails and carries about 12 passengers.. Up to the 1870's it was the way for tourists to travel up and down the Nile. I was over there over 10 years ago and I took the pony and cart, but I wanted to take the pony that they hired out but they were all hired by the time I finished my Irish coffee and stew at Lord Brandon’s cottage. Do they still hire ponies to ride through the gap?

    • @dandsclark
      @dandsclark Před 2 měsíci

      When we were there, our pony and cart ride had been reserved by our travel agent ahead of time as part of the tour. So our ride was waiting for us.

      @@dandsclark Thanks for your quick answer, when I was there, I was only one person, and I was added to the to group of the boat and so when I arrived at the cottage after my meal which I paid for, I could choose whether I wanted a horse and cart, hiking or a saddle horse to hire and I wanted to ride, but they’re all taken by the time I finished my second Irish coffee. :) It had been a very rainy cold day, but then it was sunny after I finished my Irish stew

    Why the wolf keepers let aslo tourists in to the wolves and even the wolves seem like they already trust and are friendly to other people who are strangers for the wolves?

    • @dandsclark
      @dandsclark Před 3 měsíci

      The wolves are habituated to humans but there are a lot of rules because they are still wild animals. Only one small group gets to visit each day. The visit is timed so that it is not around their feeding time. Everyone has to wear the same black snow suit and no hats are allowed. There are specific places that you can touch the wolves. When the wolves approach, you have to be on your knees. You can't hold your hand above their heads.

    10:57 The were not ‘fixated on death’. They loved life so much that they wanted to make sure they could access the after-death- life by means of proper burial.

    • @dandsclark
      @dandsclark Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for your comment. I agree that the ancient Egyptians wanted to prolong their life experience by extending it into an afterlife. We owe much of our understanding of life in ancient Egypt to the burial industry that left tombs and pyramids with beautiful paintings and carvings.
