Lap of Tassie - Final
In this overly long final episode John and I part company for the journey back to Queensland. John heads up the coast and I tackle the 'fearsome' Barry Way, review several cheap motels and rant about slow country drivers. Oh yeah, and one of our bikes expires!

Will I make it? Will the BMW make it? Watch and find out.

Great bike, Great Rider, Great video and a great adventure 🎉🎉🎉 thank you for sharing your awesome Vfr1200x ❤
Awesome tour and commentary. Yes, NSW has the worst rural roads to keep Queenslanders out. Doesn't seem to be working! Cheers mate and keep up the great retirement!

Please excuse @abitofadetour7315 ‘s Borat humour. I remember clearly the experience of sitting through the original Borat movie in a cinema with him many years ago. Our wives chose an alternative activity that day. I shit you not, he laughed the WHOLE way through that movie. Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed SBC too, but clearly, @bitofadetour7315 has been profoundly and deeply affected for life 😮. Shafted John
@@johnbalsillie7774 This is sadly true. Very nice!!!!
Great work again. Entertaining and somewhat informative. Really do enjoy your work 😊
@@LaughingCucumba “Somewhat informative” might be the nicest thing anyone’s ever said to me. Thank you.
😂 Question. Why did you not go down the West Coast? It is sealed isn't it?
@@LaughingCucumba It has a considerable section of gravel, unsealed road that I was happy to do but John wasn’t keen on the K16 as you can imagine. Jonathon the Frenchman has done a lap of Tassie only on the dirt with just a few bits of bitumen so I’m keen to give that a go in the future.
@abitofadetour7315 oh ok cheers for that. I have a r1250rt, similar to the k16 so wouldn't do the gravel either. Nice to know
Thanks for taking us on your adventure. Your commentary was most amusing.
Would you recommend night sailing and paying extra money for sleeping in a cabin on the ferry? Or day sailing?
@@simonboland I’ve only ever done the night sail so can’t really say what the day sail is like but personally the cost difference isn’t huge and there’s something quite satisfying about waking up and you’re there! The cabins are quite comfortable and there isn't that much to do onboard so when I go again I’ll almost certainly go overnight again.

@@davefearon1620 It’s a legitimate concern.
I love touring too. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to seeing the next time you’re out there.
Thanks for another exciting series bloke, much appreciated.
You're welcome.
The section that gives the Barry Way its reputation is the climb from the Snowy River on the NSW side. It's cut out of the sandstone hillside and lacks (unless it's been improved) enough drainage, so runoff can cut deep channels along and across the road. If you're heading south it's the start of the remote section so it makes a memorable first impression.
It was a fun ride but I reckon if Google maps sent you over it as a short cut you might not enjoy it, especially if you were in a Corolla! There are also a few very narrow sections with substantial drop offs which might not be to everyone's taste.
@@abitofadetour7315 My favourite section is south of Suggan Buggan getting into/out of the valley with the vista across and up the valley (from @22:50, it's also where the drop offs are biggest). Speaking of roads you wouldn't want to take in a Corolla, at @22:35 you passed up the opportunity for a short side-trip to MacKillops Bridge, along what is rightfully claimed to be Australia's worst "main road". The Barry Way gets a 5-star safety rating in comparison.
@@moblet I will definitely be returning to this area for a longer exploration. It’s a remarkable place with so many great roads.
