I know of couple that lives in Trona, they had a large home he built back about 1960 but the earthquake caused enough damage that they moved to a smaller house they also owned

I was 9 when my family moved from Riverside to Trona. My grand pa was the pastor of the assembly of God church. My dad worked at the plant. My uncle worked at Hessmans market. Mrs Husted was my 4th grade teacher. My first year in trona My class mates Were Larry George Tom David Howdy Julie Correy carla terry leeann Russ tad steve mike montee paul Joseph Dianna Kimberly Norris Lance Cindy Marla patty Denise Melanie Trudy Kent ken Barry Charlie Randy James Barbra chris cathy Fred Robin Ruth and lots more....you know who you are lol! Most interesting teacher Mr Spence! Lol@ Best place to be. Valley wells..... Camped at Indian joes. Bought clothes and shoes at Maurys . At at the Lunch box cafe And D&C resturaunt. 1972 thru78. Came back to visit a few times.last time was 2013 for the 100year anniversary of the town.

This spot was a hidden gem for the skaters in Ridgecrest. We used to take day trips out to this ditch to skate in the early 2000s. So cool to see this video. It made me think of some teenage days I havnt thought of in a long time. Thanks!

Thanks to Brian for the good video. I grew up in the old Westend village. It was pretty much emptied of houses in 1963 replaced by the newer development on the hillside down the road, where people owned their homes. The big white chemical dump is lime not trona. Westend. had kilns to burn limestone to produce CO2 that was bubbled through the brine from the lake to produce soda ash. Pat Dunne THS class of 60. Yes I am a chemist long retired.

USed to a nice town. My father-in-law was the captain of the high school football team. They kicked everyones butt on the field because their field was sand. They would play Bishop, CA and whoop their backside. Now the town is mostly abandoned homes and meth labs

I was a Navy contractor working in San Diego, when I had to go to China Lake to meet with people at the base up there. This was in the '70s or thereabouts. I remember thinking, "How could they get anybody to work out here? They've got to have very little choice in the matter." What I found when I got there was that the people out there were some of the brightest people I ever worked with. They were what I called "desert rats". They loved it out there in the desert. And they got around. They would often go out into the mountains as well as the desert. So they were very much into the outdoors. A funny thing happened during my visit there. At that time, a McDonalds was opened up in Ridgecrest. And the population treated it like it was an incredible event. They had a parade with a welcoming and celebration ceremony. The whole town turned out for it.

My parents moved the family to Searles Valley back in the early '90s; my mother had a desire to be closer to family, and Dad followed due to the availability of work. Things were good for a time: Mom was content having her parents so close, Dad found work at Kerr McGee (as it was called back then), and my sister and I started school and made friends. I wish that story could have ended on a good note, but as time passed things grew hard for my parents: Dad was laid off, and Mom had to start commuting to Ridgecrest to work as a teacher. Things came to a violent head one night: I won't get into details, but I ended up in Ridgecrest in September 2001 and moved progressively further away year after year. Visits to Searles Valley became annual, then eventually sporadic as my family (including my immediate family!) scattered in search of greener pastures. It has been over 20 years since I moved away, but I still consider Searles Valley my hometown. It is where I spent my formative years, made life-long friends, found my first love and heartbreak, and developed an abiding love for the desert. I miss it all terribly.

Awesome! Stationed there from June ‘76 - October ‘78. Got married there to a local gal at the ripe old age of 19 and she 18 and had 3 kids but I decided after 31 years that we had drifted apart. I lived on Atkins St before we got married and then on base on Entwistle after married. We visited there in 1999 and was surprised at the growth then, now it looks to be twice the size. I’m retired so maybe I need to take a drive and visit soon. Thanks for sharing your video!

I just drove through there for the first time to view a house for sale. The views are exceptional but the neighborhood was full of beat up homes with stuff piled up in the yards. Not at all a place I could feel safe in 🫤 Im enjoying your videos about the area!

01:16: white formation is some of the remains of the sediments from the lake that filled Searles and Indian Wells Valleys. The Trona Pinnacles were deposits from freshwater springs on the bottom of the lake. 02:30: Back in the little draw are lake terraces formed on the shore of the lake. Trona is a mineral extracted from the salt deposits left when the lake evaporated.

I have lived here in Ridgecrest since 1996 after living an hour away in the town of Mojave for 31 years. I laugh when I hear young folks say “There is nothing to do in Ridgecrest”. Oh really? Try growing up in Mojave with a population of 3,000 people. Especially in a time before smart phones and computers.

Homes are cheap out there but i see a lot of burned out lots which makes me think there are a lot of tweakers. Can anybody tell me if homes are safe if left alone for a while?? Like what if somebody bought a house just for winter stays. I know there's no grocery until Ridgecrest which is a decent drive to go just for food
