Ty Mary I have a project coming up ,this will help so much . I’m looking you up for classes.👍😇🇺🇸
Where do you get such good and 8 quarter basswood
Is this 6 quarter white pine?
What's the best wood to use for carving
I learned much. You didn’t sharpen at all. Do you have a few of each gouge to move your work along?
Haven’t done the donut but this looks like a good project for learning and one might be proud to hang on the wall.
Where can you fet the wood?
Hello, these are very simple.....do difficult things
Very nice . This is great For a lot of wood I have carved quilted maple which is totally unpredictable The most important thing is a sharp tool . Learning to make sharp rools is an art in itself. Regardless, I love this. and thank you
Good lesson, thanks for this!

Hi Mary if you ever was to give some carving tools away I would love to have them I like to carve with some good tools I will take good care of them and send you carving and money made from carving will send to you for tools.Mary you are so good with carving I love your work much love sam.
This is wonderful! I'm a novice at carving, but an expert in finishing, gesso, water-gilding, etc. I'm trying to pick up woodcarving for replicating medieval polychrome sculpture. I spent yesterday repeatedly ruining a V-chisel, and only toward the end discovered the trick of rounding the point. *sigh* If only I'd found this earlier, I'd have one more chisel at factory-length!
Mary, soon I will need to apply a water based clear satin finish on a wooden knife with a carved handle I'm making in linden(the European one, I live in Italy). I have read that It absorbs a lot and because of that I risk blotchiness or unevenness. What do you advise me to do? Sealing first with shellac?
A coat of shellac should seal up the grain. Soft wood definitely will get blotchy. I would suggest testing it on another piece of wood to see how it absorbs. Sometimes it's difficult to predict.
Thank you so much this has demystified so much for me. ❤
I wondered why even after sharpening a V chisel I still had trouble getting it to dig into soft wood. Your explanation makes perfect sense. Tks. I've been using a triangle of corse to fine stones that I got in Mountain View Arkansas 25 years ago. They have been a pleasure to have.
Mary do you have a pattern for this snowman?
hello Madam I have just discovered your channel and I love what you do I am not English speaking at all and I watch you from France I sculpt a little too and I like your videos and thank you for sharing
Thank you! I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!
