      @daveharty4063 Před 2 lety

      Jealous I'd say. It takes tons of practice and the actual "ability" to know and have the confidence in your weapon. 350 yards is for the .22's and .17's. Taking an animal at that distance is a skill set for few and far between. I shot a spike bull at 1,100 yards with a .300 win mag. One shot and had five people watch me do it. I never had any doubt. Just sayin!

    • @daveharty4063
      @daveharty4063 Před 2 lety

      WTAF is wrong with some people? Since when is 350 yards a long shot? If one puts in the time and wants to perfect a skill, that is a simple accomplishment. Aim small miss small. I have seen people wound animals at less distance and loose them. It's about perfecting. Most people do the "Oh, I shot my rifle at the gravel pit the day before season. I hit a 4'x4' piece of cardboard with two shots- HELL, I'M ready to go"! It is no different than archery hunters. You have to practice- year round. I archery hunted for 15 years and never shot past 30 yards. I killed 14 deer and four elk. Now, I rifle hunt with my wife and kids. I reload and practice. I will shoot out to 1,700 yards without any doubt. Put in the time people. Hunting is a well honed skill that takes time, effort and practice- year round- just sayin.

    I count a score 59 (correct me if I'm wrong). I scored a 76 with the exact same rifle. Great challenge.

  • @youcanthandlethetruth6976

    300 RUM is a fantastic rifle, but it's most effective out to 300 yards. John Taylor years ago published in his book African Rifles and Cartridges, that at 2500 FPS hydroshock tends to impair the nervous system of the animal if sufficient expansion of the bullet happens upon impact. The 300 RUM has 2500 fps in spades out to 300 yards. As long as you put that bullet anywhere near any vitals, and you get a good mushrooming bullet, which any lead-free or monolithic bullet should expand just fine at 2500 fps, then you will drop your game animal dead in it's tracks up to 300 yards and never need to track your animal. Hunting is about stalking, that's where all the fun in hunting is at. Get within 300 yards of your game animal, and watch the magic of the 300 RUM change your hunting experience, just make sure to put it near the vitals, or use that power to blow through both shoulders.

    • @therowdyrue7768

      @youcanthandlethetruth6976 Před 2 lety

      @@therowdyrue7768 That's not the point of the original post though. 300 RUM only maintains 2500fps within 300 yards, which is the point of the post. The 2500fps gives a hydroschock that isn't possible at further ranges.

    • @gertbotha9980
      @gertbotha9980 Před 2 lety

      It all depends on your load. A 300RUM using a 168gr ABLR at 3500fps MV will be doing 2500 fps at 600 yards.

      @youcanthandlethetruth6976 Před 2 lety

      @@gertbotha9980 Sure. I just gave the average round numbers out there. Too many loads to list them all. But your average store bought load for a 300 rum will get you at least 300 yards at 2500fps.

  • @richardstone5241
    @richardstone5241 Před 3 lety

    After 60 years of shooting I will say, yes, that was a great shot from that distance. However, I do not consider that ethical hunting, as too much can go wrong and the animal can end up severely wounded and needlessly suffering. Yes, I know all the rage today is "long range hunting" but I just don't agree with the concept. Unless, it is long range Taliban hunting and then we can talk.
