Do you ever have to worry about humid hides getting moldy? Or do you have to change the moss out daily to stop mold growth if it occurs? Im a little worried it will become a mold breeding ground in my tanks, or does this not occur? I wanted to make some humid hides for my reptile buddies, since college starts back up and I won't be able to mist down tanks as often! Awesome video too, thank you for all the information!!
@@Ophellia_draws yeah I used a pre-mixed grout but any grout should do the trick. Just make sure you shave the foam because it doesn’t adhere well to any smooth, unshaven parts
kind of off topic question but i’ve been wanting to redo my chameleons cage for a while now, but i cannot for the life of me think of what to hold him in while i work on it. do i buy a second cage for the meantime while i get it setup?
If it’s anything that will take longer than a day I would def recommend having a second enclosure, either a smaller one you use temporarily while you redesign the one he’s currently in or a nice new big one you can build while he waits in the enclosure he’s in now. I didn’t need to get a second cage for mine since I was just redoing the substrate, planting & vines - nothing too extensive and only took a few hours
That’s an amazing environment ❤ I’ve seen people put them into tiny little things with only one hide and one water so this looks so good and that little guy/girl will live a happy life.
I’m a breeder so I’m talking babies as hatchlings until 3-4 months. You’re right babies can survive on loose substrate because obviously they do in the wild, but the risk of impaction is greater for young babies and going the paper towel route eliminates that risk. It also makes it easier to track bowel movements so you can more easily monitor their health in the beginning
@@RichiesReps so basically what you're saying is to quarantine them on paper towels until there old enough to go on loose substrate I get that I have a bunch of spare tanks so I'll do that in the future

Definitely need to be serious about it! And yeah trust me I would keep all the babies if I could I get attached to every one. It’s hard to let them go but if I didn’t I’d run out of room for these beautiful new babies 😄
Yeah I think it’s really cool! There’s a few other species where temperature can play a factor too, but it’s fairly rare. And with Leos if you keep temps consisted it’s amazing how consistent the result will be

There is even a myth in the hobby (not sure if it’s true or not) that higher incubation temperatures can result in brighter colors. I heard of some breeders who would actually increase the temperature of their females toward the end of incubation to try & get brighter colored babies

I agree! I’ve had her about 4 years & I supervise almost every feeding all the way through so she’s pretty used to me being around and is very tame. I typically always watch in ways as to not bother her
