    by "liquidation", you mean withdrawal/distribution? If I inherited a traditional IRA, then I could sell/liquidate her positions all day, but as long as I don't take the assets out of the inherited IRA (let's forget the RMD rules here for a bit), then I would not be looking at $400K of income tax, right?

    Great video, I have learned a lot with my new HP12c. At 4:20, for 12C, should key in 0 for n instead of 1 then 12 for Amort. Otherwise the n for the first 12 months will become 13.

    1:57 use the percent features and RPN power of the 12c to calculate the mortgage amount after a down payment! Enter the 250,000 then 20 and the '%' key. That is the down payment made. Since 250,000 is still in the calculator's Y register simply pressing '-' will subtract the amount on the display from the 250,000. I know that this example is simple and you can do the method seen here but what if your down payment is a odd percentage and doing mental math is not possible? Use the calculator's percent function, that is what it is there for.

    If I type in .33 as interest and enter all the other numbers I get a payment of $950.22. But if I divide 4% by 12 and enter it I get the correct amount? Why is this? You can't enter .33 as the interest rate?

    When margin is involved, is the cost divided by 2 each time?

    • @boston-institute-of-finance
      @boston-institute-of-finance Před rokem

      Most margin accounts are a 50/50 split which is why we can divide by two in this example. Sometimes with very volatile stocks the brokerage firm will feel it is too risky and will have a higher margin requirement, such as 60/40 or 70/30 split. If that is the case you would need to divide by the stated ratio instead. If no ratio is stated than 50/50 is the assumed amount as industry standard.

    Sir,I have traded this strategy for the last 10 years & it makes money.Please back test it & publish the results NON DIRECTIONAL STRATEGY You could test the strategy on instruments which have high liquidity & trade around the clock--let us say forex & high volume US indices to start with.All orders are Limit order & orders are entered end of each day based on closing prices(EOD).For Forex pairs end of NY session is END OF DAY On A given instrument(say Eur/Usd) limit order is placed to buy(or sell) at A distance " D" which is (70% of average daily ATR) away from the closing price EOD.Take profit (TP) & stop loss (SL) distance is 50% of that distance (D)--every order is all complete order on the same ticket.Only one order/day on the instrument.Win or lose--no trader intervention,market decides when take profit or stop loss gets hit.On that instrument orders are entered on both sides, Long & short at the same time. All open orders get cancelled at the end of that day & new orders are entered based again on end of day new prices.Orders are placed on multiple different currencies to diversify risk(both dollar pairs & cross currencies as well).Risk capital on any instrument is 1% of account equity only. Rationale--Markets are random but fractal in nature.Distance travelled in a given time span is based on square root of time.TRADING EDGE comes from the fact that from End of day INITIAL price the TP is closer compared to SL & chances of hitting TP are higher than hitting SL--and when TP is hit,then stop loss order gets cancelled right away..If one month option is priced $1--then 4 month option should cost $2.Distance travelled in 4 months is square root of 4.Option premium formulas are not ALLperfect but billions of $$ trade based on that formula & market makers make $$,no matter where the market goes/or does not go.At the money Call & put cost the same--take your pick. Thank you.

    I've used the HP 12C since the 1980s. Still have the original and it works. Beat up, but I wouldn't toss this anymore than I'd shoot my dog. There are more modern calculators that have all the bells and whistles, more than I'd ever use, but the 12C does it all for me. Started investing years before the 12C came out and it was a challenge flipping apartment buildings. With the 12C, I could crank out decisions over the phone and understand what was happening inside the investments almost instantly. As time went buy, the platinum version came out, then many other calculators pushed the 12C into the background, but the pros still regard the 12C with reverence. Every now and then, I meet with an agent or investor who pulls out his battered 12C and I know I'm working with a pro. It is almost like a secret club of successful people who have learned that flash and bang doesn't replace reliability and ease. I just got through determining the growth of an investment from $625,000 to $6,000,000 over 32 years. Took seconds. Prompted me to go to this CZcams series to see what tutorials are still out there. I'm downloading them for my kids who are now in the business and who I've given 12Cs to. Now they have the only tool they need to do business.
