The Borgen Project is a nonprofit organization that combats global poverty by advocating for a refocus of U.S. political attention and funding toward programs that improve conditions for the world’s poor. Our purpose is to inform, engage, and mobilize the public to encourage U.S. Congress to support legislation that benefits the global economy.

Josh Paul was a Director at the State Department for 12-years and involved with sending weapons to foreign countries. In October of 2023, Paul publicly resigned citing concerns the U.S. wasn’t following its own laws and procedures when it came to supplying weapons to Israel. Paul noted that Israel was requesting a "variety of weapons that have no applicability to the current conflict.”

What legislation are you passionate about?
The International Foreign Affairs Budget. If we don't maintain the minimum 1% to foreign aid and development--while pressuring our Congressmen to vote for more--we cannot adequately help people escape from poverty and hunger, give them clean water and shelter, or provide education. In short, we cannot ensure the continuation of human rights without this legislation.
