Love this . Reminds me of Blue Shoes (Broga Gorma) by Colm Mac Con Iomaire with the crossing strings technique. I'd love to try this instrument some day
I just got my Aplo and was a bit confused because the strings were way more tights than what we see in the video. Turns out, the gurdy was already tuned perfectly! Did they forget to loosened the strings? At least, the gurdy came in perfect condition

Do the reeds inside the chanter determine the tuning? If my music was different would I change reeds or its tablature and doesn't matter until you play in a consort? If I buy a practice chanter will it be wrong compared to the pipes I just fell in love with and never knew I needed? I play the rebec and guitar and viola and cello so I have a foundation but nobody to learn from especially double reeds.
It's the length and size of holes in the chanter. The reed does affect it but very small effect. The annoying perks of an early music instrument. You change keys, you change the instrument. Technically you can just buy a new chanter (and drone pipes) for your existing bag.
Bagpipes are tuned to the mixolydian mode which has a flattened seventh scale degree.

My question ,what is the grain quality of thr wood underneath all that black coating?
Aplo is made of plywood. The finish is opaque, smooth and glossy, as in the first photo on the website: ancestore.eu/en_US/p/Hurdy-Gurdy-Aplo/66 If you would like to check our gurdies made of wood, you can check Saphona for example: ancestore.eu/en_US/p/Hurdy-Gurdy-Saphona/54 :)

where can one source Capos? are they made in house or is there a third party supplier for these fittings?
it's so versatile in sound. I wonder how difficult is it play in comparison to say piano, guitar, or bass?

I just received my APLO a couple of weeks ago AND I LOVE IT. What a well-made beginners instrument and when I say 'beginners' - I do not mean less in quality or quality of sound - I mean not having the complexities of resonant strings and capos, etc. This instrument has a great feel. Thank you MM.
You mention the make of strings you use, could you tell me the exact D'Addario strings you use for your G3 and G4 melody strings? ..Thank you
Hi Chris! We do not use D'Addario anymore, currently we're using Thomastik. G3 will be the G string in the viola set, and G4 will be the A string in the set.

Started with mine two days ago, got help with the tuning and omg I love the sound of the gurdy so much 😩 only sorry for my neighbours since I’m a beginner and not everything always sounds right 👀

does it come with a strap like your wearing in the video?
Yes, we add a basic guitar strap, tracing paper straps for melody strings pressure regulation, block rosin and tuning screwdriver to Aplo.
Can the drone string be tuned to a low a?
Yes, the G drone could be tuned up to A.
