    You ever fish the grassy areas out near the front of the harbor or the break wall going out to the main lake? They typically hold bigger fish

      I have fished one of the break walls but probably not the one you are talking about. I know which one you are referring to and I fished the marina right before you go out to that one but didn’t go all the way out.

    Finally someone local! How’s the tracker handle Erie when it gets rough? I plan on buying a boat next spring and don’t know if I wanna go with the 195 or a fiberglass.

    • @740_bass_fishing
      @740_bass_fishing Před dnem

      I’ve honestly only been to Erie a handful of times and only out on the main lake 1-2 times. If I’m being honest what you decide is going to depend on how often you’re going to be fishing Erie. If you’re going to be there a decent amount then I would go glass without hesitation. Down here in SE Ohio I’ve not found water that my boat couldn’t handle with ease. That’s the reason for my decision.

    • @BoostedMK6
      @BoostedMK6 Před dnem

      @@740_bass_fishing umm I’d probably say maybe less than 10 times a summer? It’s hard to decide between the two. Other lakes and ponds are more local within 30 minute drives where Erie is a good 50 minute drive or more depending on where I am going. The 195 is right at 38k and so is the Trition 189TRX (Glass) but has the 115hp motor where the 195 comes with the 150hp motor.

    • @740_bass_fishing
      @740_bass_fishing Před dnem

      I think it also depends on where you do the majority of your fishing at Erie too. I do most of my fishing in the harbors which my boat handles perfectly fine. Main lake is a whole different story for me. I think if it was calm you could pull it off but I’m not that experienced on huge bodies of water like that either. I’m usually fishing lakes that are no larger than 3000 acres just because we don’t have them here unless I’m traveling to Erie.

      @BoostedMK6 if it isn't too late I'd recommend a 19 foot glass boat. the tracker does have more of a v than mine but loses a lot of storage. I have some stuff on my channel with the boat I plan on getting a full review up in the next couple weeks. next year I'm doing bi-weekly posts. The drum are why I don’t throw moving baits up there. 😂. Next time you’re up there, if the lake allows, make the short run over to East Harbor. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised on the quality of the fish in the grass there and docks. 15-20 lb bags are common.

    I am primarily a live bait fisherman. Here I fish the Tennessee river system and it is the first week in July. I think for those people who find battling the heat for too little payoff should consider taking a few trips out with live bait. Get you some large shiners or shad, go out and do the same thing you are talking about. Pitching and punching docks, boat ramp and along the shoreline in the morning hours or the evening hours. During the heat of the day go deep along ledges and bank shelf's. BIG bass in my area are feeding and a live shad or shiner will get you strikes that are hard bites, hard hitting and fun. Just in the last week doing this I have caught one 13 pound, 3 in the 13-12 pound range and so many in the 6-11 pound range that I cannot count. I can report that between the 3-5 pound range has been great this year here. On every outing live bait is bringing fish into the boat every year. Many of my trips I have a lure fisherman with me and we fish the same areas floating by and I am always getting fish while they are pitching lures and getting every once in a while fish. I have nothing against lures but I can honestly say when I am fishing I mean to catch fish which I do and not just pitch lures more than catching. So I suggest if you are not catching fish then get yourself a cast-net and grab a few minnows, shad, shiners in yr live well and take a go. You may very well be hugely surprised at the results you find. Either way, live bait or lures, get out there and fish and have fun. Take plenty of water be safe and enjoy nature. You all have a great summer!

    • @740_bass_fishing
      @740_bass_fishing Před 25 dny

      Absolutely! As someone who doesn’t have livescope or anything like that I love the challenge of going out and finding fish and then that chess game of trying to make them bite. I enjoy that challenge. Sure there may be days where it’s slow and tough to get bites but when you put a bag together it’s so rewarding. That challenge is what keeps me going on the tough days. That challenge is what I enjoy which is why you don’t see me pond fishing either. I’m not saying that’s not challenging because I know it is but it’s different when we’re talking thousands of acres compared to tens of acres.

    Why do bass fishermen use such large rods and heavy line. Would be a lot more fun if you scale down. This wasnt too bad you actually fought him. its when you see guys skipping the fish on top of the water that i dont understand the point of

      This rod is 7’ medium and I was using 6-8 pound line on a dropshot. I’ve really been scaling down my presentation this year because the bites been tough. I use heavy line a lot because I hate breaking off and leaving a hook in a fish but I can’t speak for everyone.

      Light line. Wasn’t worth risking breaking off and leaving a hook in a fish. That’s not how I handle business on the water.

    I always have a spinner bait and chatter bait ready to go, spinnerbait is what I caught my first fish on as a kid that wasn't live bait

    Nice stuff!! I picked up some of the Mach hard baits but have not caught any fish on them yet. They look good and look like they are made well. I'm interested to see how the soft baits work for you. Thanks for sharing!

      I have a Mach patroller but that’s the only hard bait I have. I like it but haven’t caught a fish on it. I will tell you I used the Mach skooler on the back of the mini max chatterbait over the weekend and it might be my absolute favorite mini max trailer. The only complaint that I noticed is the plastic is a bit soft. Especially in the tail section with all the ribs and stuff it has. I lost a couple of tails catching fish over the weekend but the action was incredible on the back of that downsized chatterbait. It was the perfect size for it in my opinion too. I was really excited for the skooler because of the design of it and how versatile it is.

    Cool baits dude! I like those curl worms. Black/blue and purple works great for those super hot days. Seems black/blue wacky was the only thing that worked over the weekend. I was trying everything. Then just went back to the wack and hitting bass . ( kayak fishing in East Harbor )

      I like the curly tail worm for sure. Size is awesome in my opinion. I feel like I struggle to get bites on a 10” worm but wish I fished something slightly bigger than a 7”. These are that perfect in between size. I’ve already used the skooler (fluke style bait) on the zman mini max chatterbait over the weekend and it’s probably my absolute favorite trailer for that. The action was unmatched on that smaller chatterbait. It was the perfect fit!

      I’ve haven’t tossed around the mini max a ton just because I’ve always had good success on the regular size but I’ve really struggled this year so far so I decided to downsize and I caught some nice fish on it. Multi species too. That video will be out in about a month or so. It was a pretty good day for the few hours I fished!

      Pretty good selection there for sure! I have not tried a mega bass spinnerbait but I’ve heard good things about them. Mega bass just has good quality stuff for sure. I like bluerock spinnerbaits. Their buzzbait and triple threat jig are awesome too.
