      I think it may be best for you to give our Customer Support team a call so you can discuss your project in a bit more detail. Always a little difficult to understand the unique details of a project online... and we want to make sure to steer you in the right direction... 888-472-4588 Shower floors are typically covered in KERDI, not DITRA... but if you are using DITRA there or in another wet area and need to flood test it, you would carefully wet vac any leftover water in the squares with the vacuum on an angle (so it doesn't debond the DITRA from the substrate) and then proceed with the install. Be sure to use an approved substrate in accordance with the handbook, such as the KERDI-SHOWER-TRAY or a mortar bed in the shower or concrete or the appropriate wood substrate (etc.) in other areas. Cement board would not be an approved substrate under DITRA matting.

    Im getting ready to tile my shower but the niche came out a bit low. Which in this video it states it’s better to have a lower niche vs higher niche. I understand since my niche is lower I can raise there inner piece with more thinset to match the height of tile. My concern and question is, wouldn’t that leave me short on the top side? I’m using 12 x 24 and tile is about 1/4 higher on the niche. I think I’m better off cutting the bottom layer and making it even as 1/4” wouldn’t be enough height for the 1/2 this time rises with thinset. I believe if your niche is low it needs to be low enough to make up for tile and thinset which is 1/2” 😢 let me know what I’m missing here 🤦🏽‍♂️

    So when we install these niches horizontally with the LEDs running vertically, what is the recommended method for sealing the joint between the niche shelf and the LED itself? I know the LED is designed to be removable, but on a horizontal installation, there is a gap that would exist where water could perpetually come into exposure with the membrane. My thought is that a clear silicone bead would be minimally intrusive to aesthetic and still be easily removed with skillful blade work. Thoughts or recommendations from Schluter would be appreciated!

    Water leaks are inevitable and evil. Why not reverse this process. Shower pan first, overlap with edge and corner treatment, then walls. Any flooring or walls will eventually flex and crack. Let the moisture barrier in behind overlap so beads of water will flow inward to the drain not outward to the studs. Think about how shingles and valleys are treated on your roof and duplicate the logic in your beautiful shower.

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1 Před 17 dny

      With KERDI waterproofing membrane, the sequence of membrane installation can vary- what's important is that a minimum 2" (50 mm) overlap is maintained at all joints and proper connection to the KERDI-DRAIN is established. It doesn't actually matter which layer of KERDI goes down first in order for a waterproof seal to be made and continue to be water tight. So, although shingle lapping of the KERDI membrane isn't necessary, it is an acceptable option for any shower installation. 🍊

      The best case is for the curb to be installed directly on the subfloor. If the tile is solid and well adhered to the subfloor, it might be okay, as long as the curb has a solid foundation. But ideally, it's preferred to install it on the cement.

    what if a small portionn ( 3 inch wide) of membrane will be installed on painted drywall?

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1 Před měsícem

      Hi there! You can install the KERDI membrane over painted walls as long as it is a latex based paint; should be in good condition and the paint can't be peeling off. If you need to make some repairs on your wall with dry wall mud, you will need to apply a latex primer before installation of the shower system. If you are not sure, you can apply PRIMER-U prior to the KERDI. Would be good to get in touch with our Customer Service team as they will be able to guide you all the details of your installation. You can reach them at 888-472-4588 (US) or 800-667-8746 (CA). Hope that helps!

    What size trowel should I be looking for when installing against masonry walls (not spot bonding)? The one in the video looked like quite large notches.

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1 Před měsícem

      Hi there! For surfaces that appear smooth and flat, we would recommend starting with a 1/4 x 3/8" trowel. However, rougher surfaces may require a larger notch trowel to achieve adequate coverage. Masonry walls are often not perfectly flat, with high and low spots, so you should probably start with something a little larger. Also, the walls should be checked with a straight edge before installing KERDI-BOARD and finished tile. Please don't hesitate to call our Support team if you want to discuss your specific project in more detail. 888-472-4588. Thanks!

    Is the schluter drain plastic abs or pvc?

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1 Před měsícem

      Hi there! We have a few drain options, here’s the scoop: The KERDI-DRAIN bonding flange is available in ABS, PVC, or stainless steel. And the grate is available in stainless steel or anodized aluminum. The KERDI-LINE linear drain is available in stainless steel. KERDI-LINE-VARIO and KERDI-DRAIN-F bonding flanges are made of polypropylene and come with both an ABS and a PVC coupling. You can check out all the drain options on our website - just type in the name of the drain in the Search bar in the top right hand corner: www.schluter.com/schluter-us/en_US/

      Hi Chri, that may be a possibility... but it would be best to discuss your project first in much more detail to be sure you get the right advice. Are you able to contact your Schluter rep? Or you can also contact our customer service team. US: 888-472-4588 Canada: 800-667-8746 Also, here's a video showing how to cut the pipe in the floor -- that may be a possibility - but your rep or customer service would be best suited to discuss with you and advise. czcams.com/video/o33UqcV7gSs/video.htmlsi=yhaPnTdEdZdMFNRt

    8:44 What dams the edge of the channel after you cut it? I did not see anywhere where an end cap is put on the channel ends to prevent water from going out to the side. Was a step missed in this video, or did I miss something? If I missed something, please provide the time stamp.

    • @schlutersystems1
      @schlutersystems1 Před měsícem

      Hi Luke! The KERDI-LINE-VARIO does not have any ends in the channel body. It doesn't need any. Because it's meant to be shortened, it is easier to just trim down the channel and install it as is. The KERDI membrane will provide the waterproofing in the small area at the ends and the open end will be hidden by the tile, so no worries. Hope that helps!

    Why do people still torture themselves with these multi-step jigsaw puzzles? I have used several tile-ready custom fiberglass pans and wall panels. Whole thing goes in in a couple hours, and far fewer potential failure points. Kerdi seems laborious and archaic in comparison.
