Yes Opera is both very cruel but also has a few very genius shots/cinematography and aesthetics but it also has several sloppy thought-out and excuted scenes (the spartment where they don't dare to pick up the phone from the floor is so silly)

Growing up in the Pittsburgh area during these times was so unique and George and Tom definitely shaped our lives. I watched Chiller Theatre every Saturday night, been to the original cemetery from Night, Dawn scared the shit out of me, and I saw my favorite movie of all time, Day, at the theater on opening night with my two best teenage friends in Greensburg, PA. Been to Monroeville mall to see the shooting locations, and even did the Day of the Dead shooting spots tour in Ft. Myers. It's just part of the culture living there during those times, and still to this day. These guys hold legacy status in SW PA.

I first saw Day of the Dead on one of the cable channels, which I believe was the USA network. There was really no way to edit that movie to make it less gruesome. They bleeped out all the cuss words and some of the worst gore but it was pretty much in tact. It was very dark without the comic relief of Dawn. Two very different movie about similar subject matter.

So let me make sure I understand this. He's apologizing for not making strong female characters in night and dawn, and made the lead in day strong to make up for the weak females in the first two? That's pathetic. First and foremost, your #1 job is to make your characters entertaining so your movie makes money. I don't believe for a minute at the time George did the strong female leads to pacify all the woke Karens out there. Nobody gave two shits and a fart about that stuff at that time. BTW I liked day better than dawn for the reason that George spent more screen time developing interesting characters.

I've seen most of George's movies multiple times, my favourite has always been the '78 classic Dawn Of The Dead and a guilty pleasure is his underrated 1981 action movie called Knightriders starring Ed Harris as King William, Tom Savini as The Black Knight and has a cameo by Stephen King as Hoagie Man.

That's funny I was talking to a friend about the evolution of woman character in his movies and I exactly told him what Romero's said before viewing this vidéo ^^ I could have been Romero ! When night of the living dead was shot woman characters in cinéma were broadly clichés. Barbara's reminds me of women character in some Kurosawas movies. Maybe 68 did some positive change ^^ Romero always said that many of the famous choice he made were unintintional, which makes him humble. That's why I really love watching interviews of him.

IMHO, there's been a lot of amazing and talented zombie film directors who stood the test of time, like Lucio Fulci, Victor Halperin (White Zombie, which was often cited as the first zombie film), Dario Argento, etc. but i don't think any of them really matched up to the likes of George Romero.

The Mighty Pickaxe96 i personally loved Dawn of the Dead because george put a significant emphasis on his lead character being a lady, not only that but the soundtrack for the film is amazing (Goblin; they composed alot of scores for his films). Day is damn near perfection, again, along w/ the musical scores but Dawn will always hold a special place in my rotten, beating heart.
