      @Madcapsoftware Před měsícem

      When you add a file such as a topic in Flare, you can right-click on that file in either the Content Explorer or Project Organizer nd tell it to "Open with > Internal Text Editor." From there you can write the code directly for that file. Also, if you open the topic the normal way in the XML Editor, there is a tab at the bottom that says "Text Editor." Just click on that and you're in the markup where you can write code.

    I'm in a situation where my HTML5 output is having to be run through an importer before being published online. The programmer I'm working with directly is happy to let us give her the final stylesheets generated in Flare output; she can then use anything so long as it doesn't break anything in the simple template the company is using. Can styles like Madcap:DropdownHead still work, or does that functionality depend on using the output straight from Flare?

    • @Madcapsoftware
      @Madcapsoftware Před měsícem

      Any style that begins with "MadCap" (like the one you mentioned) and any style property that begins with "mc" are unique to MadCap. So only Flare's compiler knows how to handle them when generating the output. When you generate HTML5 output, those things kind of get adjusted so that common browsers like Chrome know how to display them.

    I think I was deleting my comment as you were answering it. You mentioned you make "cheat sheets". I am trying to create Quick Reference Cards - 1 page PDF about 1 short topic but pulling in from the main content. Is there a video about that? I thought I had seen one but can. no longer find it anywhere.

    • @Madcapsoftware
      @Madcapsoftware Před 2 měsíci

      I don't think I have a video specifically for that. But my cheat sheets are just very small PDFs. They have many of the same ingredients as a large PDF. They have their own TOC file (which functions as the outline, not a generated TOC), their own page layout(s), and of course styles to determine the look of the content. For my cheat sheets, I have a few different page layouts that I associate with the entries in the TOC (using the Printed Output tab in the Properties dialog), but you might only need one page layout, depending on how many page configurations you need. Basically, it's the same stuff that I cover in the print output video series, just scaled back. For example, I have no need for a generated TOC or index in my cheat sheets, so I just don't include them.

    Hi, How can I get my embedded multimedia (CZcams videos, in this example) to be published to Zendesk? The <object> gets stripped out.

    • @Madcapsoftware
      @Madcapsoftware Před 3 měsíci

      When you publish to Zendesk, Flare converts objects to iFrames so that they'll work in Zendesk. I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to be working in your case. I would suggest you open a tech support ticket with MadCap. They should be able to help you figure it out.

      @@Madcapsoftware Hi, thanks for your reply. I got it to work. I gave up, saved and closed the project and opened it again without shutting down Madcap Flare. When it reopened, the style changes were now visible. I am using the software remotely as part of a technical writing course; the program is not actually installed on my machine. Maybe that's the source of the problem. I'm going to have a go at working with some Table Styles in the next day or two, so looking forward to using your videos for guidance. I like Paul's stuff the best, his explanations are easy to follow. Thanks again for following up.

    I have created a dropDown with a class (dropDown.Second), and a dropDownHead with the same class (dropDownHead.Second). Can I set the dropDown so that when I create it, it uses the same class dropDownHead? Currently, it uses the default dropDown.

    • @Madcapsoftware
      @Madcapsoftware Před 5 měsíci

      Here's what I would do: Instead of creating a class for that secondary drop-down head (i.e., your dropDownHead.Second class), I would open my stylesheet in the Internal Text Editor and paste this into it: MadCap|dropDown.Second MadCap|dropDownHead { color: red; } It might be hard to tell due to the limited width of this comment area in CZcams, but that's actually your special class of the main dropDown style (MadCap|dropDown.Second) followed by a space and then the main MadCap|dropDownHead style after it. So in your actual stylesheet in the text editor, it would show as just one long line of text with a space between those selectors. Just for illustration purposes, I set the font color to red, but in reality, you would just have whatever properties and values that you originally intended for your MadCap|dropDownHead.Second class in that area. So what you're telling Flare is that whenever you create a drop-down and apply the MadCap|dropDown.Second class to it (instead of the main dropDown style), it will automatically set the MadCap|dropDownHead with whatever properties and values you've specified. Hope that all makes sense.

    Great series of videos. I hate git, but it’s a necessary evil. One thing you don’t mention but really should: Always commit before switching branches; you’ll lose uncommitted changes if you don’t. Ideally you should save/pull/commit/synchronise, but the commit is the most important thing.
