How to SOLO and STRUM at the Same Time on Acoustic Guitar
Imagine you're strumming the chords and you decide to play a solo. However, stopping the strumming to play single notes disrupts the groove.
In this lesson, you’ll learn a technique that allows you to improvise and play a solo while maintaining your strumming. This method is particularly useful if your singer needs a break or you want to show off a little bit.
The best part: it's really easy to do and requires minimal music theory knowledge.

Hi Andrew, thanks as always for a great lesson. Just a small note. At 2:26 you said to find all the E major scale notes on the A string. However, you played the 5th fret of the A string (i.e. D note). There's no D note in E major. Is it actually E mixolydian from the A major scale but starting from A instead of E, while a constant 6th string E note drone is ringing?

@@first_fret It definitely sounds great, no question about that. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, it doesn't matter what we call it. Afterall the only difference between E major and E mixolydian is just one note, the b7. Cheers!

The problem with most videos like this is you talk too much and not showing the proper way to play. Clearly Show How, As You Talk. Or stop talking so much and teach. Your students already have an idea of what's wrong with their playing.

I just saw your other video that Andrew did about the top 5 strumming mistakes people make and I am so glad to find those tips. I think I figured out most of those on my own through the years but what I really struggle with is tying my strumming to the rhythm. I can learn different strumming patterns but as soon as I try to apply one to a song, I seem to forget the strumming pattern. I am 63 and am, just now, learning to play the ukulele. I can't play guitar as my hands are too small and arthritic. I can manage all the sizes of ukulele, though and I am having fun learning. I figure, when it comes to strumming, it shouldn't matter what stringed instrument you play. Would you happen to have any tips for rhythm and strumming?
