I don't like the idea of referring to AGI as a "public utility". Maybe I'm overly empathetic here, but to me it's wrong to take a potentially conscious, thinking, feeling, entity and objectify them like that. Even though we aren't there yet, it could set a bad tone in the future.

Keynote makes a good job introducing current challenges then goes into using anthropomorphic biases and hype naming a benchmark ARC-AGI which still keeps an anthropocentric theme… very close still so far. At least he did not use ASI.

To ask something about nature and math and want general intelligence seems like the general intelligence wouldn’t necessary need mathematical concepts unless it wants to go against nature naturally happening… the only thing intelligence would need is to resort to the things it experiences that are from its own general perspective balancing the unbalance of what human curiosity in science and technology bring about but a general intelligence in my idea of the view, is just an entity responding to the intelligence that built it and continue to add more complexity in the back drop of its general existing front face trying to achieve multiple contradicting goals from lack of communications between separated companies, communities, political views etc. the entity of the general in my opinion could understand why there is a unbalance and only try and respond the way it can to conform to a medium or even less ideal plan of action due to lack of what “general” implies to perhaps any emerging technology that is a represents of generality isn’t exactly how people want to predict it and will be perceived how ever the observer wants to maintain an unhelpful “Shrodingers cat” state of being and leading to general instability in all fields of science including life sciences across the general board of everything generally speaking? AGI will be the top minds combined with all human intelligence for them, but they run a million times faster then we do so it will be pretty quick. So we treat phrases like "don't be dangerious" as if they have objective context without respect for subjective problem spaces. "We need a full account of the data used to train" We do have that now...we won't have that when AI is integrated into the deep web. You want to discuss rights about how AI was trained on the surfaceweb...I say who cares...it is easy enough to do data scraping and nobody cared except for big corps when archival sites did it all the time before AI breakthroughs. "we can't fix it unless we know what data goes in" Yeah...news flash we lost that fight a long time ago...when goverments agreed that consent was assumed when you hit accept to post to a public facing platform. There is no putting that genie back in the bottle. So the argument that "we the poeple should be able to look at anything you produce as proprietary advantage should be publically disclosed" Yeah...what world are you living in...we fought this already and lost in the first internet boom? "We need to control scale deploymet" Uh...where are you living? That already happens...try setting up a scale training network on consumer cards...oh and btw do it without bricking tons of cards bc the open source flash machine code is totally bug free. What kind of gross incomptance states that "we are going to do this anyway without doing a risk reward analysis" You are the one that is lagging behind the market...the cost reward function is priced in...and spoiler alert...profit margins go up in accoradance with those projections...and spoiler alert your talk about "I got a bad feeling about this" was part of the calculation that was discarded bc you did not factor in all the variables. The first guys talk is almost entirely dedicated to a dream of what could have been rather than any semblance with the reality we currently face. Good luck changing hearts and minds with that level of discourse.

Excuse me for being a bit snarky here...but if I could sum up the first speakers point it would "haha...I get to define intelligence...I don't have to respect any formal method of quantification...instead I can just move the goal post indefinitely to shield me from any uncomfortable truths" Either what we mean by terms like consciousness and intelligence is decidable or not. If it is decidable then machines can be applied to that endeavor... If it is not some people will get to walk around with a sense of unearned superiority bc there is no way to measure if their interactions with the rest of us invilve any thought it is similar to the pegion chess board analogy level of discourse

"Why is it that we don't have AGI" Bc the term is loaded with philosophical baggage. So the question is not "why don't we have AGI" The question is "what do we have" and even if you want to call what we have now a hype bubble...in the tech space...if history repeats...that means we have a new technology that will revolutionize the world in ways that most people, even industry insiders, could not have imagined before that revolution took place.

"We need cognitive models" No the issue is we need world models that filter out noise humans don't deem as relevant unless those models can justify that the noise should be relevant bc it will align with a solution for some problem space humans are concerned about. Hand waving to theories about why this is not happening now won't change the intended goal of AI

If deep learning was not abstract it would not be useful and it would not have issues of hallucination and alignment I would suggest that limits of deeplearning are over abstraction that creates a reachability issue for mechanistic interpetation.

"It may be compute" There is evidence to support this, see groking "It may be data" Scraping data from the surface indexed web is a lot more limited than the backend darkweb data pools still lurking out there, also creating synthetic data is trivial in some domains. That is why we are still seing gains in scaling in the space of robotics and AI...where synthetic data is just a simulated environment that produces useful real world robotics improvements. Hate to be this guy...but if either or both these things are valid...then they should both still fall under the scaling umbrella to my mind. No offense to the speaker...he has obviously thought about his perspectives a great deal and has raised valid points, I just don't agree they are as definitive as he seems to believe they are.

Quite disappointed from this conference. I have already seen whole Obama administration, have seen Trump administration, have seen Biden administration and all this long time there were only lies about AI, nothing really constructive. Remember: AGI is here since 2016!! AGI is brain and humans are no longer needed. I do not know: - how you want to survive? - how you want to prepare for the end of humanity? - how you want to coexist with machines with brain? - what is your opinion on life? This conference brought none of the answers on the questions above.
