How to make blueberry and oat scones - a step-by-step recipe from the National Trust
Try a tasty twist on the traditional scone with this easy-to-follow recipe from the National Trust. Hearty oats, sweet blueberries, a pinch of cinnamon and a drizzle of white chocolate - it’s a mouthwatering mix.
Perfect for an afternoon tea treat or an everyday bake, this recipe can easily be made vegan. Gather your ingredients and get cooking. Follow along with the recipe video above or read the method below.
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan/gas mark 4).
2. Add 750g self-raising flour and 185g vegan baking margarine into a large bowl. Rub the margarine into the flour using your fingers. The mixture should resemble fine breadcrumbs.
3. Add 240g caster sugar, 150g oats and 1 tsp cinnamon into the blended flour and margarine. Mix gently to combine.
4. Add 250g fresh blueberries and stir until they’re evenly distributed.
5. Mix in around ¾ of 350ml oat milk (or other milk of your choice), then gradually add the remaining oat milk until you have a dough that’s soft but not too sticky.
6. Tip the mixture onto a lightly floured surface and gently work the dough with your hands until it’s combined.
7. Roll the dough so it’s approximately 4cm thick and cut out 12 scones using a 7cm straight edged cutter. Re-roll and cut the trimmings.
8. Place the scones onto a lined baking tray and brush the tops with oat milk. Sprinkle 25g of oats on top of the scones and place in the oven for 15-20 minutes, until they’re risen, lightly coloured and feel light when lifted.
9. Melt 50g white chocolate using a microwave in short bursts, then drizzle over the top of the scones whilst they’re still warm.

I'm sure I've seen some old footage of Conwy filmed prior to the 20th century road bridge being built, in the 1930s I think. The Conwy suspension bridge and the adjacent tubular rail bridge designs were copied with the Menai suspension bridge and the pre-1970 Britannia bridge, which cross the Menai strait onto Anglesey. In the 1990's a tunnel was sunk under the estuary which is the route of the ASS expressway! I remember the horrendous summer traffic through the town prior to the tunnel opening. With large coaches navigating their way through the narrow streets of the old town.

The Dark Ages are not referred to as such because the people of the age lived somehow in darkness but because when we look at the age we know and still know so little. The little shards of light that discoveries bestow are wondrous but let us acknowledge that we do not know who was buried in the burial mound - we are still in darkness. Let us not try and retrospectively reinvent or interpret what was mentioned- it belittles us.Doubling down means halving otherwise you mean double up or redouble, bad means rotten etc.

It was on our annual Dydd Trip Ysgol Sul, a now long forgotten local holiday.

If only Henry VIII’s commissioners hadn’t been so greedy that they stripped all the roof leading off the closed religious buildings, they would be in better condition today. Even a damaged or worn lead roofing system can give an extra century or two of life to the fabric of stone structures.

The snobby university suits came in and tried to push Mr. Brown completely off his amazing discovery. They grudgingly allowed him to excavate the ship’s outlines and rivets while they chased the much more sexy gold treasure. Mr. Brown was an excellent archaeological investigator, university or not. As usual, every drama in Britain has the class divide in there somewhere.

Hello, There are believed to be18 mounds in the Anglo Saxon royal burial ground at Sutton Hoo. Basil Brown excavated mounds 2, 3 and 4 in 1938 and found evidence of cremation burials and another ship burial which had been destroyed by earlier treasure-seekers. In 1939 he excavated the great ship burial in mound 1. Since then six more of the burial mounds have been professionally excavated and evidence of cremation burials found. The other mounds are so far unexcavated but surveys suggest these mounds were robbed in antiquity.
