When I moved out of my first apartment and into the house I am living in now I had just started building cars as a hobby and was using borrowed garage space wherever I could find it. But this property had an old, never used horse barn that I saw potential in. After a bit of work, the Hard Angle Barn was created, I hope you enjoy watching me try to get better at building cars while I push the automotive capabilities of a livestock barn powered by a car battery LOL!
BEWARE of Used Horizontal Air Compressors
I filmed this video a month after I finished the original air compressor build but I didn't want to post air compressor videos back to back, so a year later, here it is!

This storm came out of nowhere, lasted about 5 minutes and gave every car on our street hundreds of little dents. I heard what sounded like squirrels falling out of the trees every few seconds and once I saw the first ball of ice come down I turned on the camera.

So you paid 75$ pretty much for a old tank . I’ve also been cursed with air compressors every used air compressor is usually messed up people don’t usually sell air compressors if they work good
I learned this lesson the hard way lol
100% duty cycle is a dream . I highly doubt that will run a sand blaster your gojng to over heat the pump or motor in no time flat
I ran a sandblaster for 15 years using a 2hp 20 gallon SEARS compressor.
Surprisingly it runs my Skat Blaster great, have done up to 5 hours of straight run time without issue, had a few hundred hours on it now.
So does that coil of copper sitting in the water end up filling up with condensed water? And by the look of things, once it fills up, its going to back flow into your pump
I have a few hundred hours of runtime on this pump now and have drained many gallons of water out of the water separator but when I took this system apart to move and turned the coil over not a drop came out, so apparently the pump flows enough to ensure any water is pushed into the water separator.
Oh, and please buy yourself a crimping tool. I can guarantee a simple tug will pull those wires out of the connectors. I used to do the same but after getting a proper Klein Tools VDV200 crimper, it's like night and day. It crimps so well i can hang 40lbs of weight off a connector and it wont come loose.
I'll look into those, always room for improvement
I just finished rebuilding my air compressor and due to the modifications i've got a bunch of fittings involved and because of this I wanted something better than teflon tape making sure everything is leak free. I ended up buying a tube of "pipe dope" aka RectorSeal "T Plus 2" and the stuff worked flawlessly. I will never use teflon tape on my compressed air system ever again.
Pipe dope is worlds better than Teflon, overtime pretty much every piece of tape was replaced with pipe dope when they started leaking.
I’m looking into a 88 kx250 for $800 in California do you think it’s worth rebuilding top end and cleaning the carbs plus a little more how hard is it finding the parts I need since it’s so old thanks for any help.
I can't say if it will be worth it for you or not, but I can tell you this, as much of a pain as this bike has been to keep running and find parts for it, everytime I get it all fixed up to sell it because I'm fed up with it, riding it as a test always turns into a few hours of riding and then I can't see myself not keeping it, it has too much character.
I was just watching fix206’s video on this and like you mention he uses the water pressure relief valve and I’m trying to cut cost on the water cooling system and that thing by itself is $100. Do you just purge it at the separator? I’m wondering if I can add a separator and the coil to my setup and be done.
I purge the separator every few hours of runtime and pull about a pint of water out every time, I do the tank daily and have yet to have more than mist come out for a second or two, his setup was a lot more autonomous but mine has given me dry air for hundreds of hours of sandblasting so far.
I think it’s required to say it two or three times differently. At least I do. Vevor, veevor. Who knows how it’s pronounced. They are usually good though.
I can see why most people use the 00-01 sentra for this swap .
Well in 00-01 it wouldn't be a swap, it just came that way...
@@HardAngle They where sr but they where weak 110hp.
@@gabrielg6800 You are correct, although it was 140 HP according to Nissan, but some ECU tuning would wake it up, and the 02+ had removable engine and trans mounts which make them easier to swap something into.
When you install the second bead, You need to put lube on the underside of the tire bead, where it contacts the duck head because that's where the friction occurs; not on the top surface of the tire.
I bought one of these junker tire changers and after some major modifications I can finally use it. The accessories that come with it is pot metal. Its quicker just to lube the bead and spoon it on than to use the supplied junk.
This guy is an idiot. There was nothing wrong with that old pump and motor. They just needed serviced
That old electric motor just needs sevicing.
Don't worry, I gave it to a friend who wanted to rebuild it, it did not get tossed in the trash
I’m rebuilding an 02 for my daughter right now. It’s her first dirt bike and she can’t wait to ride with dad and her brothers. I’m glad you posted this so I can learn from it!
I'm glad to hear there is an excited child out there ready to ride a little JR50 like I was years ago. Its a memory she and her brothers will cherish all their life, I know I do.
What chemicals/products u use for clean aluminum, please-
I soak them in simple green heated to around 180 degrees, then I spray them with a power washer to clean off the cleaner and dry them with compressed air. Be careful as simple green "can" dissolve or discolor aluminum when doing this but so far I have only ever discolored (darkened) an aluminum engine block.
Harbor freight don't sell that product anymore 😕😔, someone made them stop selling them
That is a bummer, such a useful tool for so cheap.
For this engine where is the distributor suppose to be facing.? Currently fixing my head
Yeah used compressors are a pain in the meatus, same goes for water pumps.
speedair compressor
Hey i see you in Pennsylvania, i have a spec v and i am looking for someone to the clutch in my spec v , i am in Philadelphia let me know if you are willing to fix my car
I actually moved to Tennessee a few months ago
You’re really talented, man. I can only imagine the CZcams grind is a long and uncertain one, but I just wanted to encourage you to keep making content and doing your thing, because you clearly have a knack for this kind of work. Mad respect and appreciation for what you’re doing.
I appreciate that a lot! There are times for sure where it would be a lot faster to do the work and not film it, but comments like this are a great reminder there are some people out there that appreciate it.
@@HardAngle Dang fantastic, got a new subscriber for sure!
@@xx-vk5ol love to hear it!
how much power is it pushing??
I'm guessing whatever it was stock brand new
That bead breaker doohickey looks like it could use some extra meat on its Bones. Beats the hell out of using a screwdriver and a hammer
Remove tire start at valve stem. Install tire end at valve stem. Tube or tubeless you will damage stem or sensor eventually.
Not to many people rebuild those certain carbs good stuff man I own a 86 d21 i just sent my carb to get rebuilt because she was running a little too rough already for me and i didn’t pass smog new cat egr and egr vacuum modulator it should pass now if not im burning it😅
Figured I would give it a try, why not. Good luck with Smog! Gotta keep these old Hardbodies on the road
7:35 easy peasy ??? Do that on a 30 series tire and see how easy it is LOL
Great video thanks
Does anyone know if you are able to install this engine one a 1995 Nissan D21?
If you wanna save on fittings sweat the joints everywhere you can. I did this my second go around building one of these cooling loops and it saved me 120 on fittings vs my similar 200 the last time. Now if your sweating joints and creative you can make some interesting parts for very little. I know one step was gonna run me 70 the first go and sweating it it was closer to 20.
What generator would I need just for the air compressor it’s sell I have same exact setup but with a 60 gallon tank
Generator wpuld be the same its running the same power at the start as it would the emd maybe just runs a few extra minutes.
What's the name of the product and where can you buy one
They call it a swing arm mod, I bought mine on Ebay from this seller. www.ebay.com/itm/373624493594?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ughzyp_7q_u&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=pvOiQn_wS42&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
What size pulley you use for the Electric motor ?
Go online you can get the size you need
Super good video. Thanks for making it, I learned a lot and it will help me put mine back together.
The bead breaker on mine broke first try Luckily I already had a heavier one on hand
I have to strap my machine to the building because it is too bendy to pop low profile tire beads, these machines definitely reflect their low price tag but with a few mods and some learning curve mine has served me well.
You should hydro test that tank.
This tank ended up having a pin hole in the bottom, I got an upright 60 gallon tank and hydro tested it to 230 psi and all went well. Has been running flawlessly for 7 months now. I agree with hydrotesting your compressors every few years, takes an hour or so and could save your life.
Badass dude been curious about an update so glad I came across this
Currently packing up the shop for my move at the end of this month. Might not be videos on this build for a few months but once the new place is all set up its right back to it, I'm excited to get this car completed and continue the journey of improving it over time.
@@HardAngle best of luck man, persistence with the move!
Thanks
Great build! I like when things are built and restored vs bought. I am building a 5 hp w/ a vertical 30 gallon used tank. Oh and a tip when soldering, use flux on the pipe and fitting and apply heat to the fitting and the solder will run into the fitting and coat the entire surface between the fitting and the pipe. This will give the strongest and leak free join.
Thanks for the tip! System is still running with no leaks or issues, changed to a 60 gallon vertical once I noticed this smaller tank had pinholes in the bottom and I didn't want to risk my safety. But that tank was also used and restored just like this one.
@@HardAngledoes the generator work good with the 60 gallon tank ? If so how long does it run with a full gas tank in the generator
@@user-yq3rn5cq2o I've gotten over 12 hours of run time with a full tank, but the generator was also running my lights, the sandblaster vacuum, and a wood stove blower fan at the same time as the compressor.
@@HardAngle an that’s with your 60 gallon compressor runs good with it ?
@@user-yq3rn5cq2o Yes, that is with the 60 gallon tank, since it is the compressor body and electric motor just on a different tank it runs just like before, just takes a little longer to fill up now.
Got me a Altima coupe as well! Feel like they’re kinda underrated, pretty rad to see someone work on one! Looking forward for future videos!
You'd get a better finish if you were using a rotor silencer on there to dampen the vibration. Ammco part number 6920 are the spring silencer part number 9800
The one that came with this machine was very old and worn out so in this video it was not available, thank you for the part number, will make picking up a replacement a lot easier.
@HardAngle I like the spring silencer the best. It comes with four Springs, but I always add one more spring to it for the larger rotors. I've been in the brake lathe Sales and Repair business for over 20 years now. I happen to have one of those RTI machines at my shop that I took in on Trade in. I haven't really messed with it. Ammco 4000 is my number one seller
@@sinned96 For the price the guy was asking for this machine I couldn't say no. Seems like it is build very solid and it holds size every time which is everything I needed. I'm going to look into the spring silencer you mentioned.
Always clean the rust off the rotor before you cut it especially where the cups Mount to it. That way you'll get a true setup. And cutting rusty rotors it the fastest way to wear out your bits prematurely
Were you get all the cars ?
Facebook Marketplace
I had an '02. So fun to drive but nothing but problems. A fuel pumps 2 02 sensors, 2 crank position sensors, sunroof track broke, fog lights stopped working, fog lights stopped working, driving side power window stopped working, burning coolant and that whole intake manifold/butterfly nut s**t show.
That's a real bummer, both of my Spec Vs have been unbelievably reliable, except for the electronic pedal issues I caused myself on my 02, I guess when mass producing vehicles there will always be bad eggs.
Good stuff 👌
Hell yeah dude nice work love me a cloud white spec, one day I’ll do a VVL in one of my Sentras
You and me both, thats the end goal for this someday, but my budget only calls for DEs right now lol
Looking to flock my own dash in the future and I was wondering if you could compare the clock spring to a 350z clock spring if you have one out of the car still. Wondering if I can’t do a steering wheel swap to a z wheel and keep my cruise control and radio stuff.
I don't have it out anymore unfortunately but just from Google images they seem to have very different plugs, although the airbags plugs seem to all be the same
@@HardAngleinteresting I’ll have to look more in depth and see if I can find a z spring with the same plugs. since I haven’t had mine out the pictures I see look similar to me but I’ve never handled one in person.
@@HardAngle I was looking at an 04 350z clock spring specifically
@@HardAngle mounting is different but if it’s all the same stuff maybe I can make the z wheel work with the stock clock spring?
@@jdm2779 I'm not sure at all since I've never handled one in person either, but pretty much anything is possible if you try hard enough, I'm sure you could pull it off
Been looking forward to an update! That dash looks great man 👌 How's the little B15 that nailed a deer doin? Would enjoy seeing what you have been up to with her
Haven't done too much else to it just yet other than driving it to Tennessee and back during that snowstorm we had last week. Since its my daily it doesn't get as much love as it should but I have plans for it in the future once I get a new shop built since we are moving soon.
I need to swap the 1.8 engine....does the 2.0 bolt on or do I need a kit? Mine has an auto transmission. it's an 05 1.8 special edition (whatever that means)
I'm not really familiar with the mounting points on the 1.8, I don't want to give you any information that might be incorrect. So far I've had to custom make almost every mount for the 2.0 swap.
@@HardAngle ok. Got it. I was able to find another 1.8 engine to avoid that. The only engine available locally was a 2.0 and did not want to commit to that without knowing
@@SteveFloresCoach Glad you were able to find a replacement, that will be much easier to install and get going.
@Hard Angle the 02 Sentra what did you need to swap the sr in? And did you use a sr20 harness nd computer?
I am using a SR20 ecu, engine harness and body harness from an 01 Sentra SE 2.0, getting ready to put the engine in now, so what else I'll need to adapt will be seen in the next video. Even I don't fully know just yet.
@@HardAngle yeah me too even sometimes on Nissan form miss lead information. Learning as i go.. Heard they say you have to change crossmember so you might need everything from a 2.0 SE Sentra. Waiting for the ur next videos. Shouldn’t be any problem dropping it in 🤷🏻♂️
@@sniperworkssniperbay3077 The crossmembers look to be the same but I kept the mounts that mount from the block to the cross member, hopefully that does the trick.
So nothing more was needed I’m looking at the engine to by now sr20DET ?
@@sniperworkssniperbay3077 After getting it bolted in the crossmembers were definitely different. I had to custom fit the rear engine mount and custom fabbed both mounts on the frame rails, not sure how different the SR20DET harness will be since it will be for a different car, pulsar or something similar, I would speculate the harness that comes with the engine won't work but the stock B15 SR harness and ecu with a flash may be able to handle it just fine, but since I haven't done it with a DET yet the internet will know more than me.
You have video how set the valv stem ?
