Welcome to my comprehensive review of the Yamaha XT250, where I delve into whether or not this is the best bike for Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) and moto camping! Maybe it is great! Maybe it sucks! You'll have to watch and find out.
In this video, we cover:
Detailed XT250 Review: Performance, specs, and overall ride experience.
Light ADV Build: Custom modifications and accessories to enhance your adventure rides.
BDR and Moto Camping Performance: How it packs and performs from actual sections filmed on the BDR!

39:33 How is it for BDR/Motocamping?
Why the XT250?The XT250 stands out for its versatility, durability, and performance, as well as light weight and low seat height. But, is it too small for big miles and BDR riding?

Riding the PCH on a Motorcycle - Versys 650 - places to stay and eat in California on a budget
zhlédnutí 268Před 4 měsíci
I rented a bike on Twisted Road- my first time using a motorcycle rental website. In this video I talk about how the Versys 650 does for this kind of trip, and some great places to stay for the night and eat on a budget. Riding the Pacific Coast Highway is a bucket list ride, I highly recommend it to anyone! 0:00 Intro 0:36 Day 1 - LA 16:12 Day 2 Santa Monica to Morro Bay 30:57 Morro Bay to LA

I know I already previously uploaded this, but I wanted to make a few changes so here is the new one. The main video should be coming out this week, it is all finished and is just uploading. Also on the horizon- a more comprehensive Versys 650 review as well as an XT250 review plus ADV build/mods list!
Honda Africa Twin 1 year honest review - mods, problems, am I keeping it?
zhlédnutí 24KPřed 6 měsíci
This bike has been complicated to say the least. While it has so many good things going for it, there have also been problems...including warranty work. Is it worth keeping? Where does it really shine? Let's find out! Budget Motorcycle Boots from Amazon - Worth it or waste of Money? O’Neal Rider Boots honest review
zhlédnutí 1,5KPřed 6 měsíci
Today we're looking at the O'Neal Rider boots. They have some of the most reviews on Amazon and at about $120, the might be a good deal. We'll look at build quality, comfort and fit, and see if they hold up to dual sport and adventure riding.
Riding the Yamaha XT250 to a Giant Volcano in the Desert - Cabezon Peak, NM
zhlédnutí 348Před 6 měsíci
Hi guys, thanks for joining me for my first video! Today I am headed to Cabezon Peak, it is a giant volcanic plug in the middle of the desert. I am taking the backway there, I've never gone this way and made it all the way through, I have to say it was pretty great. I highly recommend taking this route if your vehicle is capable off road, but regardless, you should check out the peak since you ...
Dude, what the heck are you carrying that you need all that luggage?
nice review! loved the passenger input
Just joined today, very useful, keep it up. Thanks
Love this video, I have considered this bike for me for all of the comments you so nicely outlined, however I am waiting for the Honda 300 LS only because I love the looks of the Honda. You know how that is some bikes just speak to you for whatever reason. Thank you so much. This is very nice review. Looking forward to see the next one.
This is excellent. It is thirty years since I have ridden the desert southwest. I missed a lot of good stuff. I have been riding sixty six years now, some of it on an XT250. I wish you many more adventures in a beautiful part of the world. Richard
Karoo 4 is the way to go
As a goldwing owner, it is explicitly spelled out in Hondas directions tha you need to power on the bluetooth device first. It has to connect to the bike first and then plug in the phone!
Nice review. I think those might be DMO pegs. Not in production any more. Any chance on contacting the PO to get the MFG of that rack?
Probably one of the better XT reviews I’ve watched on CZcams. It’s not a beginner bike for me it’s an easy to handle older age bike for me.
Hey Albuquerque here representing ❤.. Came from a KLR then a Ducati to now a Harley. Glad I found your channel. I miss riding off road and now realizing what awesome adventure bikes I could have purchased with what I spent on my Softail Standard. KTM 890 Adventure, Africa Twin and Aprilla Tourig! Oh well, still love the Harley also. Got to draw the line somewhere… Cool bike you have there 👍
I've been doing an in-depth look into dual sport bikes & this little bike has held its own - it's a standout bike that many pass up but I do like her. I'm saving still so I'm still open minded about this one. I like air-cooled too, call me old fashioned - OLD !! It would be true but ty for the video.... peace
Some of the best XT250 content I've come across to date. Well done. I have other bikes as well, but love my XT and shall never be separated. Looking forward to more...
Great review ! I’ve had bikes here in the UK 🇬🇧 some years ago and looking to buy a bike once retired in Thailand. Hopefully i’ll get to road test both in the coming months. Happy days.. !
Thorough, intelligent review. I bought one of these for my wife but I borrow it a lot and ride it more than she does. A great, economical, adequate ADV bike.
I also prefer Drive mode
Can't beat the XT. Bought one for my wife and i ended up using it more than her. It's so fun to use and light and always starts on the button
yes, reliability is so important!
I rode from Kentucky to Panama this year and no problems. I don't need to go fast. It is very reliable and a great bike if you don't carry a motel with you.
wow, now that is a long ride... good to know the xt can do it just fine!
I bought one of these, but an older, carburetor model, for my teenage daughter to learn on. She ended up not liking riding a motorcycle, so it became my bike. I used it a lot off road as a trail bike. But where I live, in the Texas hill country, some of the back roads have a 75 mph speed limit and I couldn't keep up and didn't always have an opportunity to get out of the way. I decided it was probably unsafe to keep it if I was going to be dual sport riding in my area. So I traded it in for a CRF450L. On paper, the CRF is way more capable and a better bike. But I would say for riding around town and slow speed riding on back roads, the XT250 was more fun. Not taking anything away from the CRF but it requires more attention and commitment, making it a harder bike to ride. I sometimes miss the XT and think it's great for how you're using it.
I'll bet that 450 is a blast though! But yes, I really like how light this thing is, but you're right that it does not belong on the interstate for sure
Great video!!! I just got myself a 2024 XT250 to learn to ride on and i feel the same as you so far. Great bike and again great quality video.
hey thanks!! Enjoy the new bike, and maybe it is one that you can always keep alongside any future bikes you might get!
2023 AT ES manual . 5000km (3000 mi) on my Dunlop Trailmax Missions . Very happy. Big trip in the Rockies . Chucking rain , wash overs , gravel and fire road . Everything in one experience . Tires were rock solid all conditions . When they wear out , I will replace them with the same . No question or doubt. Cheers from BC Canada . RS
If you're worried about weight why would you go for the DCT...?
because I've had the DCT system before and it's amazing! Plus minimal weight added overall for this one component
@@AdventureMotoSouthwest 11kg of difference (231kg to 242kg) is not "minimal weight". They're actually the difference between the base version and the Adventure Sports version with the same gearbox.

I had trouble with apple car play always glitching and dropping out. I figured out that if i turn Bluetooth off on my iPhone, carplay works flawlessly no matter what sequence of startup I use. I think what was happening is the bike was connecting through Bluetooth to my phone and to my headset at the same time and kicking my headset off. The Bluetooth symbol on the TFT screen would flash intermittently. Now when I get fuel, I leave the headset on, and when I restart the bike and ride away and it links every time. Super easy. It goes without saying my iPhone is connected to the bike with a data cord.
yes, I agree! This works. And then when the bike 'sees' the phone, just holding the back button on the left handlebar to cancel out of the 'connect headset' screen.
I have a 2022 CRF1100L Africa Twin DCT in Germany, and I'd like to add two comments: 1. The self cancelling indicators simply work based on the distance the bike travels. Once you set them, they will cancel after 150 meter (about 450 feet). I found this to be too short for me, so I disabled self cancelling in the setup menu. 2. Your problems with Apple CarPlay: I never heard about that specific problem. When I start my bike I first connect my phone to the bike, then I switch on my headset, then I switch on the ignition. The bike connects to my headset first and then connects to the phone. And I have installed a Carlinkit 4.0 wireless carplay adapter, so my phone can stay in my jacket. This is super-easy for short trips, but for trips longer than two hours I have to provide a charging device for the phone, so I carry a small powerbank for that. One thing you probably know: For proper functionality it is essential that the headset is ONLY paired to the bike and NOT to the phone. The Honda serves as a hub between phone and headset. Hope that helps.
didn't know that on the self cancelling indicators, interesting! thanks
One of the best reviews I've watched.
I have a 2021 ATAS. Africa Twin is the GOAT. Put better tires on it, add wireless charging and wireless Andriod Auto / Apple Car Play and its the best adventure motorcycle money can buy, in my opinion that is.
Do you get handle wobble [with or without topbox] ? lots of AT riders are complaining about it.
no wobble so far!
Hi 👋🏻 Do you advice me to buy Africa twin 2024 for traveling around the world and off-roading ??
definitely! I'd go with the base model personally, but recently I have been leaning towards smaller bikes if there is any off road involved, unless it is easy groomed dirt roads
23 AT ES manual . Putting on Dunlop Trailmax missions . They came into shop first . Alt , Motoz Tractionator GPS . Both are seen on a regular basis out on the road with the AT . Cheers RS
Nice review, thanks
great video, very informative, thank you very much for time and efford you put into it, thinking about buying Africa Twin too, good for 2024 now they come with tubeless tires and some little tweeks. Had Tenere 700 for a season, 12 000km so about 7500 miles and found it too weak for road, too heavy for offroad, that i dont do much offroad, just found it not good in any department. I now ride 2019 ninja 636 but looking to go back to adventures again. Im little torn between F900GS but im afraid it is too similar to Tenere and i will find touring pita. Great video again, subscribed. Kind regards
I agree. We all love our hobby but it’s important to be sensible about the prices of these machines.
you have got to have the most pleasing, pleasant, chill narration voices on all of CZcams... keep it up! Peace ✌️ from SoCal 🌴
Nothing to be ashamed of. It's ok to have these thoughts. 😉
thank you!!
LOL!!
I have the Honda Africa, twin adventure sport, DCt es. 2020 I did have a stalling issue like you did, but all I did was find a CZcams video that shows me how to recalibrate the DCT transmission did that and haven’t had an issue since. Love my Africa twin it’s a keeper.
I have been hearing more and more about that procedure, I'll have to look into it if it does it more. But since the dealer update, so far so good
Great VLOG. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Hi, I hope you are having a good time! Did you notice that your video is very beautiful and the video quality is great. But your video SEO score is very low. That's why your videos aren't getting many views. I can help you if you want.
I have a ‘21 ATASESDCT and my favorite tire is the Dunlop Trailmax Mission. Got 12,000 miles out of my last set. But if you are looking for more off road capability check out the Trailmax Raid. You probably won’t get the same mileage.
Hats off to those driver 2 & 3 car lengths in front and they didn’t jump into the lane which is always a worry here in Australia they would definitely weave in and out of lanes and then lane filtering is to dangerous
great point, and definitely something to think about when lane splitting. It definitely has more pros and cons than I initially thought
The Heidedau K60 dual sport tires have aggressive off road tread, I'd rate them 5 stars. No issues with them on or off-road, wear good. I'm on my 3rd. set on my '08 KLR650
Thanks for the video. For what it's worth I usually use the "D" mode as well. Did you purchase that screen visor from Honda? I wanted to get one but can't find it.
we're the few and the proud using D mode in the AT! The screen visor was purchased from Ebay, but it was new and the Honda OEM part, still new in packaging
Tusk has a nice road and dirt tires ❤
I'll have to take a look. I've heard of the Tusk D-sport tires. I like pretty much all their products
@AdventureMotoSouthwest Just to give ya heads up, if you're gonna do the tires yourself, the side walls are hard to work with . Of course, it's not impossible but harder than other tires themselves . Not that I experienced it myself, but just what other content creators reported on . But they are giving it 3 thumbs up 👍
Thank you!
Greetings, As always another brilliant detailed video 🇺🇸🍾🎉🇺🇸. Keep producing more videos about the African Twin.
I definitely will! thanks
You can definitely use lower grade gas in a pinch. Just get some octane booster in there as soon as possible. Or only fill up halfway and then top off with premium later.
Lmao……are you talking about out the Costco rotisserie chicken fits in that case? I love those. Perhaps I can use that to help justify getting one of these. I’m currently on an old 05 GS. I’d love to have an AT with the DCT. Thanks for putting this video together.
Yup. I made sure this top case would fit one since taking a chicken home each time I go to Costco is mandatory for me. DCT is the best, highly recommend it!
Where in NM or AZ are you? Looks like where I just moved from in Farmington (northern NM).
Albuquerque. Farmington is nice, lots of good riding out that way
@@AdventureMotoSouthwestThanks, brother. By the way, our bikes are almost exact twins (even the Mototek and colors). Trying to move back to Duke City, but will probably be a year.
I have the wireless device for apple CarPlay. works very good!
Definitely want to hear the NM4 story!
I'm surprised to find someone who knows what it is! Definitely will share more soon on it, it was such an interesting bike
Did I see you in Los Alamos today?
not me!
Looks like you would like the Tenere better.
I love the Tenere, a buddy of mine has one and I have ridden it a few times. A little too tall for me, but what a great bike and so capable off road
@@AdventureMotoSouthwest africa is also so tall.
it is, but for whatever reason I can almost flat foot the Africa twin, but was on tippy toes on the Tenere. Just my experience though
I’ve got a 2021 ATAS manual. 36000kms with half being off-road. Love it!
oil consumption? I have atas 2022
Big ADVs...are one thing (must be good on several aspects.... and not excel on others) ... Small XC bikes another thing.
I agree. Smaller bikes are really where it's at. If I could only have one, it would be my XT250
@@AdventureMotoSouthwest nice bike. Also love Honda CRF .
