Hey, I am moving to a warm weather climate in the south and the landlord has told me that the property has air condition but upon researching it all of the literature says it has a heat pump. Am I going to be able to survive the summers?

I'm in Oregon. Columbia River PUD in a 3,300sqft two story home. Trane heat pump with furnace with natural gas as the "emergency heat" we have ridiculously cheap electricity compared to god awful PGE rates. I'm over the moon with how well the heat pump cools and heats and avrg around $100 month for electricity. Our 2 water heaters are natural gas for around $36 month

Hi, I am sold on forced air heating using natural gas flame via a heat exchanger to heat the air directly, instead of using a boiler and radiators with hot water running all over the home and the disruption associated. Unfortunately, they are being outlawed here in the UK, in favour of a Combi Boiler and rads. Shame that.

My furnace area is clean and renovated. Looking at that tank, I would replace the whole thing, it looks disgusting and rusty. I had a hot water tank that erupted and it was 8-years old. With my new hot water tank, I would get it replaced every six years if needed. After experience the tank erupting like a volcano with steam and water sprinkling the top and water gushing out the bottom, and gas odor filling the air. It was a scene, I will never forget. I immediately called 911 and had to evacuate to the front. Next time I have to shut off the hot water on top and turn off the gas that's connected to the hot water tank. Even if I flush the water every year, the sediments stay on the bottom. I have hard water that causes mineral deposits and erosion to form. So it's good to inspect the hot water tank every year to see if its functioning. I had it flushed twice and honestly, the sediments remained on the bottom. So flushing is no use, I would let a licensed plumber to do it if needed. It is expensive, it cost me $2,000.00 to replace a 40 gallon and the plumber fills out the application for the permit, and I fill out my part and pay the application fee. Then schedule an appointment with the town inspector to come and do thorough inspection and places a red card if passed. I keep copies of everything and even take a photo of the sticker. As a homeowner, I have to be responsible and in charge of my home to see that every maintenance is up to par.

Mine is 8 years old. It has a lot of corrosion around the cold water out it looks like. Also the thermostat has a bunch of rust coming out and draining down the front. I probably need a new one but hopefully it's just a faulty thermostat. I'm betting it just needs to be replaced though.

I got mine installed after installing Tesla Solar. My winter monthly gas bill of $380 is now $0.00. My electric monthly winter bill went from an average of $160 to $10.39. Including charging my Tesla Y.

One other thing: while a gas furnace may be a bit cheaper in the Pacific NW, the CO2 emissions from a furnace is much greater, especially in a region where so much of the power comes from hydro.

My home is on a slab. The heater was sitting on the floor and seeping out the bottom. The water was going under the tile and surfacing in the bathroom about 6' away. Drove me nuts for about a year til I saw steam coming out the top

Finally got it up and running. The only delays we had was because we realized we needed some extra parts (I’ll list that below) czcams.com/users/postUgkxihMYiJNXcHdbH-7ihymsLz61l7jVyb5O . So we have a loft where our current hvac just couldn’t seem to keep cool during the summer. We have been using a window unit since we bought this house over 6 years ago (all the houses in this neighborhood were built in the 80’s and majority of the houses built like ours use a window unit). I hate window units because they are just so noisy and the one we had really only cools one side of the loft. I had contemplated upgrading our current HVAC, but with all the rising prices these days, it would take years before saving up enough to do that. With the advice of my father-in-law (used to run an HVAC business), he recommended we get an inverter instead. We thought we bought everything we needed, but there were just a few other parts we didn’t anticipate needing (which is what caused most of our delay). My friend and father-in-law did all the work to get it installed and running and now we have nice cool air circulating nicely throughout the entire loft. It is very quiet and even the outside unit is much quieter than our main HVAC unit. Saved ourselves thousands getting this.

we have a fairly large AC unit ( has a 24 volt start connector ) outside that runs on Natural gas with a sort of standard forced air heater, When replacing the wall thermostat do i need to get a special amperage rating? Thank you

I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.

What if you supersized it and used high velocity fans combined with blocks of ice?

Wouldn't just turning off the breaker in the winter for the heat pump and let the furnace take over if cost of electricity is really high not be an option?
