Paul Jenkin from the Ventura Surfrider Chapter will speak about the decades-long effort to restore and protect Surfers’ Point and the beaches of Ventura through “managed retreat” and dam removal.

How are the beaches of Ventura County created and why is there rock and cobble where there once was sand? Come and join us for a presentation, discussion and solutions around those topics with Brian Brennan and Dr. Jim Bailard with BEACON.

The waves we love are caught between changing oceans and developing shorelines. We are only just beginning to understand what impacts this will have and what we can do about. I will present some of the ongoing research we are doing to explore the future of waves and wave management in California and around the world.

In the first talk of this four-part seminar series, Dash Dunkell, Conservation Director for Ventura Land Trust, discusses the connections between open space preservation and ocean health. He also talks about the Ventura Land Trust's current projects, and gives an overview of post-Thomas Fire recovery of land parcels that are managed by Ventura Land Trust.
