A video essay about how Factorio shares an incredible amount of similarities with Software Engineering and Computer Science. And how playing the game makes you a Software Engineer! (kinda sorta really).

Never played Factorio, but always liked similar games (the latest of which being Mindustry and Satisfactory). Being into infosec and cyber makes me relate a lot to the way Mindustry has a similar (albeit in much smaller scale, damn small maps) "workings" as the internet, but going further than just setting up firewalls to prevent stuff =p (this actually reminded me of the Perimeter/Maelstrom games, from the Vangers universe, where you actually have shields like firewalls)

Liked within the first minute, this is how you make an intro. I work as a network engineer so I got the hang of load balancing, scaling and such, but this video actually gave me an idea. So now I can report the time I spent watching this video, as "education". Yay!

i cant agree more, i was micro managing my megabase in factorio and noticed what i was doing was exactly refactoring. So i started to learn to code (intensively, like i was playing factorio ) in c++ . One year in.

I recently learned system design (for game development), and I learned about having to make readable and scalable systems. It's the same stuff, and thanks to you, I now also know more software development lingo. And yes, I definitely want another video about this! Also sidenote, you are really funny and I like your enthusiasm and editing style. I've been playing satisfactory with a couple of friends recently, but I'm struggling because my friend made this machine.. And yeah it does the thing, but it's essentially a bowl of spaghetti that keeps growing and is impossible to understand for anyone except my friend.. Because it's not readable and scalable. So now I want to tear it all down and begin again, but he will never agree to that even if I try to explain why.. Sorry for the rant, lol, but I just felt like sharing that. Anyway, I subbed and will be waiting for the next video, if you decide to make it.

Great video. It's amazing how many things are actually what software developers do every day; breaking things down to smaller manageable components to work together to make a final product. Something that I learned from this video was when you said the word "Subscribe" at the end, YT's subscribe button had a little rainbow border animation. Never noticed that before.
