Thank you so much for this content! It gives me hope that there are teachers out there that really care about creating a positive work environment for paras. All of the ideas and methods that you are using are exactly what I want but often don’t receive such as having the daily plans and expectations made clear. Having the bins for the para is thoughtful and a great way to keep us organized The attitude of communicating clearly is the key towards making the para /Teacher dynamic go smoothly. Things that don’t help are making the para feel excluded, withholding or gate keeping information needed to do the job. Giving a new para a student who has severe behaviors without preparing them with what to do if their is a severe behavior meltdown and how to manage it is irresponsible and a lose/lose for everyone.

I'm happy to hear you are back teaching. We need teachers like you in the classroom. I'm entering my third year as an ELA teacher for grades 5-8 since leaving SCEC. I still think back fondly of our time together there. It was definitely my favorite year in the classroom. By the way, I still have Teddy (the bunny), but we call him Theodore now. Hi there and thank you for your videos. They have been most helpful as I prepare to take a SPED position. I have a question for you: if a student has been absent for an entire year (young adult younger than 22) what would occur at their annual IEP meeting. Also if it was conducted past the due date is it no longer valid?

How much time do you give for morning work? Also, do you do morning meeting before or after?

Loved this video! I have been a substitute teacher in classrooms with a slideshow like this and it makes live SO SO SO much better. Otherwise there is no way for me to know the routines and expectations for the class. It allows me to focus more on the students in the moment and less on wondering what I should do next with them.

I'm so excited for you! Your joy for the upcoming year is contagious. I'm actually going to be a teacher consultant this fall, after being a resource room teacher for 11 years. I'm excited for the change, but the closer the fall gets, the more anxiety I feel about the position. I really hope I love it. But I had to try for it because my work/family/personal time balance has been atrocious, and I think this will help. I'm glad you had yours figured out! Maybe when my kids are older it will be easier for me and I can go back to the classroom. I was hoping you would make more vlogs about your admin position, but I'm still looking forward to more teaching vlogs from you. You do you! I'm glad to hear all the positivity. We need more of that in education!!

That’s interesting. I’m a new teacher and I feel that way about becoming a teacher and not a paraprofessional. I really loved my job as a paraprofessional. When I became a teacher last year I had so much anxiety. I’m making more money as a teacher but I liked my role as a paraprofessional a lot more. Money is not everything.

Welcome back! It’s great to see content from you again! I have a similar experience- I returned to the classroom after doing administration for several years. Moving back to the classroom has definitely increased my joy and has reinvigorated my love for teaching. It’s not without challenges, but that is true of any role. So much of what you said about your admin experience resonates with me - I had a very similar feeling about it. For me I got to a point where I felt so far removed from my initial why. Moving back to the classroom has been wonderful. I hope you have an amazing school year and good luck with all of your life changes!! You are a gem! ❤
