    I applaud you for not using a chain saw. They damage the tree as they are too aggressive. It does make a huge mess so I usually clean as I go.

    I’ve watched a few videos about this and most are digging a longer entry trench and using longer length of PVC. Curious what the reason for that is and what is the downside, if any, to using a short entry trench like this

    Well done Jacob. I've been calling those Louisiana walking irises since the 90s. I first heard the name apostle Iris in 2020. Wired how that happens. You and your team keep those yards looking really nice Did y'all get a hard enough freeze to keep the skunk vine at bay for, at least, a few months? I don't miss that stuff at all

    This palm has been seriously over pruned, I assume it was you and what you're doing now is as bad. I seriously advise you to befriend a palm specialist grower/gardener in your area for advise on growing palms. You must never remove leaves until they're dead, that is the central mid rib has browned and withered and the leaflets the same and never ever remove green leaves or even partially yellow leaves. There are no diseases of palm leaves just evidence of bad pruning and nutrient deficiencies caused by it. Lethal yellowing is the only disease this causes all the leaves to turn bright yellow. The way you are pruning you are starving your palm as palms absorb nutrients from their old leaves inwards. Throwing fertiliser on it will not help fix that as the palm will still have to use its younger leaves to get the same fix it got from the old leaves you removed, fert doesn't stop this process. Every time you do this the palm head and girth will get skinnier and skinnier and eventually just fall off. Those piles of green leaves you cut off are palm killers. I'm not being a troll, this is one of the most common mistakes novice palm growers make and quite often also uneducated municipal palm pruners. Don't believe me go out and ask a gardener with lots of healthy green palms how to do it, it's particularly worrying seeing you showing others by example possibly one of the worst things to do to a palm.

      What you are saying makes sense. A plant is a living thing and before doing any pruning of any tree I would seek multiple avenues of professional advice. Thank you for your comment.

    • @equestanton1017
      @equestanton1017 Před měsícem

      @@bigred6815 Yes this is always a wise thing to do. Cross referencing web-sites and CZcams videos is also a very good idea, never just take just one's advise because you think it suits you, look at other videos first. The Potassium and micro-nutrients are stored in the old outermost leaves, these are what the palm draws on as it grows new leaves. Eventualy in their own time the oldest leaves will die and dry out, at this stage you can safely remove. Unfortunately many people are lazy and think if they take all the outer leaves off at once green included they wont have to trim tht often. However this is the surest way to ultimately kill the palm.

    Hi, Hopefully, you are still checking the comments for this tutorial video. I researched everywhere about pruning sunpatien and New Guinea impatien plants but you are the only one who gave a fantastic tutorial about their pruning. Thank you very much. Follow up questions for you: Do we still need to fertilize them after a major pruning if fertilizer was already applied to them before their pruning? I was not sure if I could prune my sunpatien and New Guinea impatien plants… So I applied fertilizer to them as my usual early spring fertilizer regime. Less than a week later, they just drastically wilted and were invaded by aphids. I pruned all of them down as suggested by your tutorial. But I didn’t apply fertilizer again. Is that ok? Please let me know.

    • @MorenoLandscapingMaintenance
      @MorenoLandscapingMaintenance Před 3 měsíci

      I was told they don’t like to be fertilized heavy so I’m thinking you should be ok, and when cutting back try to only cut back 1/3 at a time. I hope this was helpful

    That's a badass saw! I have an older Fiskars and that thing is wobbly as hell!!! My queen palms are too tall now and need a better saw. Or pay $100 per palm every year to get them trimmed. I have 3 palms so it would pay for itself in one use!
