DIY Dog Platform for Truck/SUV FOR $60!!
Hi fellow DIY-ers/dog lovers!
In this video, I will be showing you a simple and relatively inexpensive, step-by-step guide on building a dog (animal) platform for your fur babies. This is perfect for long roadtrips or just all car rides in general. It has made our dogs SO much more comfortable in the car already which, of course, makes everyone happy :)
List of materials used (some items contain affiliate links):
- Ryobi Drill and Drill Set: amzn.to/43dSKoa
- Arrow T50 Heavy Duty Staple Gun Kit: amzn.to/3BQ6r0S
- Ryobi One P505 18V Lithium Ion Cordless 5 1/2" 4,700 RPM Circular Saw: amzn.to/3C76Axn
- 2 Piece 2” x 18” Stainless Steel Piano Hinge Black (this is not what I used, but I highly recommend this size, since it’s much wider): amzn.to/3pV1vFg
- [HIGHLY RECOMMEND for cutting the gap in the bottom piece] BLACK+DECKER Jig Saw, 4.5 -Amp: amzn.to/420AMo4
- 23/32in OSB 4'x8'
- 3/4in-1in wood screws depending on the thickness of the platform
- Tape measure
- Utility knife/heavy duty scissors
- Carpet: (this is what I used) www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMaster-Elevations-Color-Sky-Grey-12-ft-Indoor-Outdoor-Ribbed-Texture-Carpet-7PD5N660144H/203240740
- Carpet padding (optional)
All in all, only including JUST the raw materials I had to purchase (so not including screws, staples, tools, etc.), I'd say this project cost around $60! I had quite a bit of the OSB board left over as well as some of the carpet which I ended up using for other projects.
Let me know what you think down below! I'd love to hear your feedback and answer any questions/comments you have :)
Also, if you have any suggestions for future videos, shout them out! I'm ALWAYS open for new ideas 👍🏼

You saved my life... thank you Share share
If you need to make a cut like that again and don’t have your jigsaw you can manually pull the guard back on your circular saw and “Plunge cut” into you piece simply slowly drop the blade while in full rotation into your piece of wood and hold one firmly. You’ll get used to it in no time! Nice project doing something similar for the tool boxes and buckets in my truck! Thanks!!
Need to make something similar for my Toyota Highlander to cover the middle between captains chair in 2nd row for my English Bulldog Spanky🐶thanks for the inspiration & the video👍
Great stuff! Thank you for your time and vid. 😎🤟💜
great design!! i will be using this video for reference, thank you kindly and God bless!
Brilliant
This was pretty cool. And really quite simple. Good job. Happy dogs.
Nice video. I am planning on installing one in my Silverado. Need to figure out an operable window set up for my pittie
Great job, I have something similar but with seats up and basically made a box. But like your idea so much more, thank you great job!!
Great idea!
Give credit where credit is due I did this yesterday and was able to take my 13 year old lab for a family ride for the first time in three years. I swear he smiled all the time. You. Inspired me, i got to work in my shop and the dogs ( i have two hundred pound labs) loved it. You go girl!
Great job! I am a DIHer (Do it Herself). I worked for 10 years at The Home Depot and gained a lot of knowledge from every department in the store. I absolutely LOVE doing projects and troubleshooting things that need repair. I recently replaced a blower motor in my friends RV and have created several wooden projects. Keep up the good work!
Nice work. How did the dogs do in the truck before? I have an 80lb Doberman and considering an extended-cab truck.
That is such a perfect and yet simple design! I'll be doing the same thing this weekend but I think I'm gonna do a small cut out for the air vents so I can extend it completly to the seat and gain ever single inch. Great video!
Kudos to you for coming up with a simple solution. I was looking for something similar to this to build under my existing dog hammock vs. spending around $140 for an online dog seat extender. Plus I had the scrap wood laying around already! Not going to do exactly the same as you, but you gave me some good ideas. My Shepherds will be happy with more space. Thanks for posting, ruff, ruff! Find a smooth surface to work on next time, lol! ;-)
I built a padded carpeted platform yesterday. It gives me great storage below deck too
Came across this video at the perfect time!! Get this chick a Home Depot sponsorship!
You’re too kind 🥺🥰
Basically a tutorial on how to connect 2 pieces of wood to a hinge.
