I remember this one old 4th dan black belt in my dojang, he was maybe in his late 60's or 70's. But he acted 30 years younger. That man was Master Roshi or something, cuz he was both a very disciplined martial artist, and also a huge troll. Respect for that man ❤️

When I was 9 I went to a mcdojo and barely learnt anything. We were just sat down and talked for almost whole of the lesson andwhen I left and joined another one I felt like I had a fresh new start and I actually learnt alot of things. And instead of going once a week, there is 3 times a week so it was good.

I am really astonished as to how the people in the dojo that figures most of the time on this video are not aware of how godawful everything they do is. I’m sure they all have access to CZcams and can see how immensely far they are from the real thing?

Something I’m noticing, is the real dojos seem to frequently have some professional videographers, their videos are very high res and clear to follow. Are they perhaps including a few different marketing videos on accident? Because a McDojo is fully capable of making a halfway decent marketing video too. Don’t take it all at face value, actually look at their technique

As someone who teaches and runs a dojo. It’s insane cherry picking to show a group of students (black belts or not) working in a class on basai dai. Then compare it with a team of 3 clearly competing in a synchronized kata competition. One clearly looks like practicing one is performance. Again professionally spaking. Being able to perform a kata in tandem with other people does not reflect to the quality of your self defense.

This is why it is difficult to attain a black belt in a really Kyokushinkai Karate dojo. I've seen many dojos strangely hand out black belts like it's candy. That is generally not the case in a Kyokushin dojo.

The mcdojo's look like they're having fun at least. I'd rather train with them than not having a dojo at all, even though their blackbelts seem to not even be up to my level (I haven't been active for over 20 years, 7th kyu at the time getting to regularly practice above my grade which was a lot of fun). That team kata was interesting... Now all we have locally is some sort of MMA stuff which isn't very appealing

At black belt level, you can see the techniques are very precise and the movements are crisp, however, young children can achieve black belt if they train hard enough and to a point, long enough. There can be similarities between a McDojo and a real one. For instance, I am fifteen and I have recently achieved my black belt in taekwondo, which is quite young, but it is recognised as a part of the UKTI(united kingdom taekwondo institute) and ITF(International taekwondo federation). I do agree that there are many 'dojos' and 'dojangs' that are as you call 'McDojos' but these characteristics may not always be the case, for instance the point of many young children having black belts. If anyone does have more information on the McDojo and my assumption is wrong, please do correct me.

bro, in karate we had the minimal physical exercise quota for some lower belts. Like if you couldn't do 50 perfect form pushups, no green belt for you. But as long as it makes these chubby muricans go do at least some form of movement and makes them feel better about themselves, I say it's alright

I sadly recognise the badge of the last video, Choi Kwang Do, which is the Martial Art I partake in, though good news, the owner of the Choi Dojang I attend also recognises the failings with the name Choi Kwang Do and it being a mcdojo, he has changed the name of his school and switched it from being purely Choi Kwang Do which is total bollocks, to being more traditional Tae Kwon Do and some Karate mixed in

My school was half McDojo, half legit. The kids’ classes were complete bullshit, but the adult classes were actually legit.

The first example of mcdojo and real dojo is actually really funny. You see, it not also compares the dojos but also the whole martial art that is of course Taekwon-do. The mcdojo is Olympic TKD (also known as WT TKD) and it is the most know version of TKD, everyone laughs at it, everyone mocks it because it is completely useless. But the real dojo is other version of TKD - ITF TKD -original version of TKD. And as you can tell that WT is more likely a sport, the ITF is an actual martial art. Even the fights in the ITF TKD, look more likely as a real fight, not just ballerina type playtime, but an actual fight (many say that its similiar to kickboxing(there are even many kickboxers/itf taekwondists who do both sports at once))

Even some of the real dojo clips are mcdojos. It is MARTIAL ARTS, not sport fighting. The 3 german guys making the kata.... Thats nonsense. Thats not martial arts.
