Late to the party but whatever. If this show takes place in Canada and follows the same or similar laws as our own world, the average age to work is 15 years. To employ a younger child, an employer must obtain a permit from the Director of Employment Standards. Bonus: Minors under the age of 15 working in the recorded entertainment industry (such as in film, video, or television productions (which would include this show!)) are governed by an entirely separate set of rules from those that apply to other minors. These rules are set out in section 45.5-45.13 of the Employment Standards Regulation. Among many other things, these rules provide that: -For children under the age of 12, a shift cannot last longer than 8 hours after the child reports to the work location. -Time in front of a recording device is strictly regulated, and a specified break must be provided between recording sessions. -The child cannot work more than 5 days in a week (or 6 days, if the Director of Employment Standards approves in writing). (At least these 3 rules were clearly violated as she was kept on-site for the entirety of the several weeks it took to record and the cameras seemed to always be recording. So it was entirely legal to employ Fiore for the show but it's clear they didn't care about her legal rights once there.) -If a child earns more than $2,000 on a production, the employer must remit 25 percent of any such earnings to the Public Guardian and Trustee to hold in trust for the child. (This amount is held by the government until the child is 18 as a way to help combat exploitative parents from taking all their child's earnings) (I'm including this one because if this show parodies Survivor and all Survivor actors/actresses are paid according to their placement, the same would be as such for Fiore (100k for runner-up). Additionally, the earnings would go directly to either a joint account (both her and at least one parent have instant/unlimited access) or a custodial account (she would gain access at 18 but a parent can manage the account and control investments until then) post remit and any applicable fees. Another bonus (because her parents don't piss me off enough as is -_-): Among other things, the Protecting Child Performers Act, 2015 sets out the following general rules: Before employing or contracting with a child performer, an employer must hold a meeting with the child performer’s parent or guardian to disclose a general description of the role the child performer will play; the location and hours of rehearsals and performances; any health and safety hazards that the child performer may be exposed to and precautions to be taken; any special skills the child performer will be expected to perform; and any special effects to which the child performer may be exposed. Any changes to this information must be subsequently disclosed. (Her parents knew what the show would put her through if this was followed...) TLDR: The age minimum is 15 unless a permit is obtained. Fiore was possibly hired legally but had her legal rights ignored once there regardless. Fiore's parents suck.
