The gyrocopter builders discovered these engines and used them because they were light powerful and cheap. Put a stromberg 97 carb on top and you had a throttled engine
Can you imagine flying an RC place today with such show controls...
With the technology we had then, I wish, in an alternative universe where these were used as tactical drones or as suicide drones similar to what is being used in Ukraine today

My dad had one of these during the early 60s. I always wonder what happened to that glider.

Beautiful aeroplane and spectacular setting. The music detracts from the video afaik. Would rather hear the towplane engine. It doesn't take that much wind in the sails to get a Baby Albatross airborne so the high speed run on the ground looked unnecessarily scary.
