Many years ago I attended a 40-hour HAZWOPER course (occupational health and safety training course, required for some jobs in the USA) and the instructor demonstrated the danger of combustible dust. (Before this, I had never heard of "combustible dust.") He took a fistful of ordinary flour, lifted his arm, let the flour gently spill from his hand, and flicked a lighter underneath the dustfall. WHOOMP! That mere quarter-cup of flour exploded with a bang and a flash of flame. Everybody in the room lurched backward. (Yes, I question the decision to do this INDOORS.) It was VERY eye-opening about the sudden destructiveness of combustible dust. I live about 400 meters from a large manufacturing facility that makes packaged powdered mixes for various breads, cakes, cookies, etc. (Jiffy Mix, if anyone is familiar with it).The facility has twelve enormous silos for ingredient storage. So. Much. Flour. If they ever have a combustible dust incident I think half my town would be destroyed, including my house. I think about this a lot.

I work in the mixing dept at a tire manufacturer, and the idea of having drop down ceilings anywhere near mixers is utterly baffling to me. There is *so* much dust involved, especially since manufactured rubber uses tons of powdered carbon... literal tons, our plant has a railyard just for carbon Plus, mixers use massive hydraulic systems which by design leak. Fire is a near constant risk. We had a small fire a few years ago, two pallets worth was stacked off straight out of the rollers before the batch off/cooling dip. The rubber was hot enough that several hours later it ignited a cardboard box that was left next to it

funny; the only three treatments available around the city i live (somewhere in sweden), were Cognitive Behavioural Theraphy, drugs, or apparently two different kinds of brainzapping, i'm apprehensive to pills in the first place due to potential side-effects, and having heard and read of potential side-effects from brain zapping just makes me deathly afraid of it, too bad i can't get help i think could work, only because it's either not available in my municipality, or they want me to go to hell and back before anything i might propose.. (i have disabilities due to my autism but since i barely managed to get through a bachelors degree, it's expected of me to be fully functional)

I worked in a pharma company labs, a new product arrived. A special lab was kitted out to cleanroom standard, positive pressure ventilation, air capsule double door entry, personnel suited up, double gloves, face mask respirator with hip worn filter pack, lab had an isolator chamber to handle the raw material high potency powdered drug. So soon enough personnel started getting skin rashes where the mask silicone touched their skin. Investigation followed, swabs showed presence of the drug all over the lab and inside the respirator mask surfaces. Root cause: the idiots who installed the isolator chamber never connected the exhaust pipe to a hepa filter and the exiting drug powder spread out over the ceiling tiles which fell through gaps as the lab door opened and closed. Also, the gobshite who supplied the respirator mask and filter pack (including built in fan) didn't know the particle size exclusion of the filters, which is important if the drug particles are very small. The lab was shut down and the project terminated soon after. More than 12 people were exposed to the raw drug powder over several weeks. Its fatal dose is 60mg of pure drug for a 70kg adult. Trust your instincts people, if any little thing doesn't seem right, stop, keep away, get experts in to investigate.

A few salient points. The Highbury Branch was,for a tube line,very short. This necessitated frequent changes of end. This can be tiresome. Most guards would like to be promoted to Motorman which involved passing their motors exam to become Guard Motorman. It is easier to pass that exam if you have experience of driving a train in service. Controller keys are widely available. What happens when you have a controller key inserted in both cabs?

I think that if the company had been negligent and criminally ignoring warning signs etc.. it would have been a much worse outcome.. not to take away from the victims at all, just grateful it wasn’t worse.

That second worker was kept alive for 80 days and received an INSANE amount of medical care, some of which was experimental and never seen before.
