Nursing and Allied Health Professions at the State Hospital
This video provides an overview of the role of Nursing and Allied Health Professions at the State Hospital, Carstairs - the only high security psychiatric hospital covering Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Within the forensic setting of the State Hospital, Nurses play a key role in the safe management of patients, both at ward and off-ward level. They are concerned with assessment of behaviours; security as a means of treatment; liaison activities to promote progression to less secure environments; implementing treatments and skills development for behavioural problems; focusing on index offence behaviour strategies and issues relating to quality of life.
The State Hospital has a large and diverse AHP team which includes Occupational Therapists (predominately), Dietitians, a Speech and Language Therapist, and a team of Arts Therapists that deliver Drama, Music and Art therapy to patients. A visiting Podiatrist and Physiotherapist attend weekly.
